 EDC 3. Energy

In the past this would have just been fire, but our energy needs, our technology has changed this.

- Have a few ways to start a fire, lighter, matches, flint and steel. I carry a road flare in the car, it could be used to start a fire.
- Always have your phone at least half charged, charge it when you're driving, keep a way to charge it in the car as well as with you in your bag.
- Think about a powerbank, keep that topped up also. Mine also has a torch inbuilt.
- A light source is also important. This can be a torch, your phone torch etc. But a nice solid metal torch is best, can be used to blind and as a little baton if needed.

Quality of sleep: Physical vs Mental Exhaustion

I've worked both very physically demanding manual labour jobs and very cognitively demanding jobs, emotionally taxing and complex work.
The best sleep I get is after being physically exhausted, not mentally exhausted. I find after a day of physical labour or activity, even if I'm wiped put, I sleep so deeply. Conversely, after a being exhausted by a mentally demanding day my sleep is terrible, takes me a long time to sleep, bad quality, bad dreams.

Certainly I feel happier and as though I've earned it after working physically.

#grownostr
That's a good idea. Sometimes I do have rage workouts after a particularly bad day.
Yeah it's that brain activity, not being able to turn it off.
Productive day today. Managed to get the kids out of the house and my daughter suggested a bike ride. After untangling the bikes we hit the Laratinga Wetlands trail near our place. What a great morning, we had a great time, a nice lunch halfway and my son, usually a couch potato, was loving it.
In the arvo I had a weights session. All is well in the world after a good day. Enjoy yours and the upcoming week.

 EDC 2. Food

- Carry some protein bars, nuts or similar things you like for emergencies. I always find the kids will get hungry and that can save the day. Keep more and bulkier foods in your car for emergencies.
- Learn about the edible plants in your area, try them out, make note of where you see them around you.
- A small amount of fishing line and some hooks or lures take up little space, but if you live in areas with lots of water then they could be useful.
- Have a cutting tool if some type (see Safety/Cutting Tool later). I use a Gerber Dime day to day at work etc, as knife laws are pretty strict in Australia. But, it's got pliers, wire cutters and a blade, covering lots of food prep, collection and fishing needs.

A range of barbed wire is next, just bicycles with knobbly peddles lent against each other.

 EDC 2. Water

As an 80's kid I know the desperation and taste of hot hose water, out of some randoms yard, on a hot day. But we shouldn't really ever get to that point. I find people don't drink enough and often don't carry any with them. If you live somewhere hot, as I do, you can get in serious trouble in only a few hours without water.

- Always carry water with you. I use a 1L stainless steel water bottle. Why metal? You can boil water in it if you have to.
- Carry a secondary collapsible plastic or silicone bottle in your bag or where you work.
- Have extra water in your car or where you work.
- Have a way to boil water, matches, lighter and/or flint and steel (see energy later), and a way to filter or purify water, purification tablets or drops are cheap and easy to carry.
- Know where local sources of water are. If the power is out the taps won't work, how will you get water?

 VOTE FOR PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

In the lead up to the US election I thought I'd do a little series of Every Day Carry (EDC) notes.

Following the format of the basic survival needs and 5C's of survival, starting with:

0. You: As in Permaculture, with Zone 0 being your house and Zone 1 being outside that, your person is the first thing you need sorted out. Thus covers your personal mindset and health

1. Water: what you have and how you carry it.

2. Food: what you have, knowledge and skill to feed yourself.

3. Energy: usually thus would be fire, but today we also need electricity for many things.

4. Shelter: how you protect yourself from the elements.

5. Health: Sanitation and medicines.

6. Safety: defence, knowledge, skills, mindset.

#prepping #Survivalism #preparedness #grownostr
 EDC 0: Yourself

The most important thing we take with us everyday is often overlooked. All the tech or stuff in the world won't make up for a lack of it. That thing is you, specifically your cognitive and physical health.

Mental Preparedness

- The willpower to survive, to get through hard times is essential.
- Be an optimist. Block out the negative thoughts, see the positives, be grateful.
- Be aware of events and people around you, be informed not alarmed.
- Learn new survival skills, teach yourself constantly.

Physical Preparedness

- Get fit, stay fit. After your mind, your body is your best tool in getting you out of an emergency situation or helping others.

Stay safe out there and Happy Halloween.

#asknostr Is there a lightning app that will create a QR code invoice that can be printed and given to people to scan?

Would be used to get people into lightning, one off invoices you could hand out on cards. Any ideas? Will a lightning invoice even stay valid for a long time?
No, it's an invoice I would create that would pay them a certain amount once scanned, I'm giving them sats. That's the idea anyway.

Scan this QR code with your wallet for 1000 sats or whatever.
OK, yes. So could you create a QR code for that?
Thanks for the input guys. I've worded my question wrong, that's my bad.

I'd like to give people sats to onboard, by giving a card with a withdrawal QR code, they scan with a wallet get, sats etc. Probably not possible easily it seems.
 Cool, thanks
 That's perfect, thanks

Why does everyone document and broadcast themselves committing crimes these days? It's so stupid.
Kids here in Australia steal cars and livestream their joyrides, retarded.

We've had Bluetongue Lizards at our place for years, but I haven't seen any in two years.

Yesterday I came across my first live baby, I'm so happy to see they have been successful. I hope to see more.

The world is slipping ever closer to global war as North Korean combat forces are sent to support Russia in Ukraine.

Only a small group currently, but it highlights a few points.

- the continued waning of US power
- the strengthening of the Russia, China, North Korean and Iranian group
- countries such as North Korea don't fear the US as they once did

The time to prepare yourself and family for the consequences of a global war is now.

#Preparedness #prepping #grownostr
 Overall it's safe and stable.

There is always the threat of China, our resources, low population and political opposition to them make us a target. But that shows itself as cyber attacks and trade wars.

Politically we are very stable, we don't have any real threat of riots or unrest at all, a few lefty protests and tiny, but loud, groups of neo-nazis.

Economically we are on a bad place, inflation is still high, 33% of Australians are skipping meals, 25% of South Australians, where I live, have reported their household has run out of food and they don't have the money to buy more.
Crime and homelessness is certainly up, stabbings, home invasions, arson, car jacking, which we don't see a lot of usually are increasing.
Great episode on nearly my same point, something is afoot and many can see the signs. I'm a positive person, but I like to be informed and aware. The better prepared we are, the more likely we'll be OK, and more so if nothing happens.

Low in comparison to other nations around us and the size of the country. 26 million is a lot, but as part of the 8 billion on earth, a small part.
Totally correct, we don't have the water for a big population.
