EDC 3. Energy
In the past this would have just been fire, but our energy needs, our technology has changed this.
- Have a few ways to start a fire, lighter, matches, flint and steel. I carry a road flare in the car, it could be used to start a fire.
- Always have your phone at least half charged, charge it when you're driving, keep a way to charge it in the car as well as with you in your bag.
- Think about a powerbank, keep that topped up also. Mine also has a torch inbuilt.
- A light source is also important. This can be a torch, your phone torch etc. But a nice solid metal torch is best, can be used to blind and as a little baton if needed.

I have a 100ah lithium battery box that I keep charged at home but take in the car when going on holidays or sometimes for longer day trips. I initially bought it to power a small travel fridge but I also have 12v lights that can run off of it and can use it for charging phones etc. I want to add solar charging so it could be used as a power source even if I had no mains for a while.
I’m sure it could also use it to generate a spark big enough to start a fire if needed. 😂
I have a little solar panel, battery and inverter set up I've been running for years. The inverter is super old, but it's great for camping and running lights, fans in blackouts.
Yeah I have a small inverter I can run off of the battery too. I think it is only good for about 300w but enough to charge a laptop or run extra lights temporarily etc.
Not really, anything over and above fire is just nice to have, fire didn't stop doing what it did.
Nice to be able to call 000 though.
That could be kind of a mixed bag these days...
A phone case with little prongs that generate a spark would be handy.
I'd rather club them with a stick about armpit high length. 😂
I don't want to get that close...
Then it can go in the fire so there is no evidence. 🤣
See, fire's useful. 😂
