Will this be much different on Nostr tho? Won't everyone on Nostr just go where the biggest relay (or biggest/best client-with-own-relay) is. Already most people connect to the same 3 well known relays.
OK do you have link where i can find more info on this? From what I understand no client supports this yet. And each client will also still restrict which relays can be accessed because of filters (necessary becayse you don't want your client accessing any old relay in the background). Every major relay will end up following the same spam/rules/filters , and others will be ignored. I don't see how the gossip method will work without filling peoples clients with spam or unwanted content/connections. What am I missing?
Joplin. Open source, and you can self host without paying a cent, also can use S3 buckets etc. Unlike Standard Notes which keeps changing their subscription/lock in etc. Got stung by them, never again. Joplin has hundreds of plugins too.
Its crazy that there are only 3 browser engines in the whole world. All of them built by American corporations. No other country has built one. In 25 years, only 3 can be used, an mostly everyone uses just 1.? This is one of the strangest conspiracies nobody has noticed to make a theory about.
99.999999999999999% of people install phone this way or in same way with google play. Nobody at signal mentions this, anyobody who puts a 'secure messaging' app on a play or apple store is not trustworthy, and every one of those app devs knows it, they know, but create the links anyway! Push notifications scandal? Why did nobody spot this. Not one high security app developer even suspected it was possible?
But if bitcoiners arent on twitter because they are on Nostr, then how will anybody hear about the merits of bitcoin except for the people on Nostr, who are already Bitoiners? Foot shoots foot.
There is no debt. Any nation with a sovereign currency has no financial constraints. It prints its own money . All dollars are produced by the US govnt as and when they see fit. That they claim they need to 'borrow' from private sector the currency that they print is a farce. A king doesn't borrow gold coins with his head on it to pay of his debts in gold coins to himself. Nobody ever asks : who do all these nations owe debts too exactly? If America owes money and China owes money and Europe owes money and the rest of the world owes lots more money than either of these, then who exactly is this money owed to?

Zaps are front and centre of every Nostr client, I think this focus is a a turnoff for the average normal person looking for a twitter alternative. Few people on earth care much for bitcoin , few understand it many actively distrust it . But worse still, almost nobody understands lightning (and lightning is even harder to use / understand than bitcoin). And who wants to switch to a platform they don't understand and lets be honest never will. Lightning is HARD!
That's reasonable. I don't think everyone understands it that way. And for sure people do want privacy from their twitter alternative. That's why nip04 got dumped.
No. Nostr is a WIP , a simple protocol, not much different to email with lots of flaws. Useful. Lots of potential. However Bitcoin was a revolutionary masterpeice from the day it was released to the public.
Nostr is a great protocol, sadly most devs in the community are more obsessed with finding a way to use it to make money with bitcoin than anything else Nostr might have to offer. What if Nostr won't make anybody rich? Well, its going to go nowhere as almost all the devs are wannabe billionaire CEOs who talk the talk of creating freedom, and free software but don't have the imagination to understand why that actually matters let alone to want it.
nobody (well, almost nobody) wants to pay a centralised authority to use social media, those that do already pay Elon Musk. Nostr is losing its mojo because its incompatible with capitalist greed.
If nostr isnt free, open , easy to use and NOT FOR PROFIT or self hosted then it isn't really offering anything Elon Musk isn't. There were many twitter alternatives that failed because nobody was on there. Nostr still has that latter problem but being open, free and censorship free might swing it. Paid relays remove any real world advantage.
Agree, except it is critical mass not monetisation that matters. Free, non-profit, open source community coded nostr is the only social network that can offer an alternative to centralised systems like twitter. Money corrupts absolutely. It will corrupt the code. It will corrupt the ethos. it will corrupt the entire point of nostr.
I don't want to pay for a subscription to use Nostr, it means handing over identity and financial metadata as a minimum, many people come to nostr to avoid just that crap but also so we are not dependent on 'entrepreneurs' 'monetising our speech. That isn't freedom. Capitalists hoping to make a quick bitcoin buck from Nostr are the problem not the solution. What if nostr ISN'T meant to be profitable. It needs to be run with little or no finance. Or it isn't worth much more than paying musk for twitter
Number 7 is the only one that matters, thats is what will kill nostr and its ethos.. Few users are gonna pay to move to nostr when they can pay to stay on twitter with the same problems. Its impossible to tell any nostrdev this because their job (or their billionaire CEO wannabe complex) depends upon their not understanding it.
Agree, bitcoin enthusiasts are ruining the Nostr ethos. Its rare to here a Nostr dev mention he word nostr more than the word bitcoin in he same sentence
The vast (VAST) majority are not. Of course a minority will pay for nostr, but thats not a popular social network. Its a niche small network that will be largely as useless as it is unwanted and uneeded..
agree, I won't pay musk, and I sure as hell aint paying randos to use their relays or clients on an obscure network that doesn't offer the thing that currently sets it apart from twitter premium: payments.
Payment is tied to identity, meta data at the mimimum. People don't want that. They want privacy and control. If nostr takes that route users might as well stick with twitter and hand over their cash to elon.
Light version. I like the fact i don't have to open posts in new tabs so I don't lose my place in the time lime, I have never seen this feature of opening windows within windows anywhere , many other websites and apps could benefit from this. Its simple but brilliant and a game changer for people like me who have to have a gazillion tabs open at once terrified of losing my place when surfing. Honestly there is nothing I would change about coracle (except copy text is difficult) the fonts and colours are good too., easy on the eye. And the relay lights/icons are super useful. Thanks for your efforts.
Bitcoin is the least private form of money invented, even fiat has more privacy. If the govnt wanted to stop tax evasion there is no better tool than Bitcoin. Every coin is traceable. Easily too. Even CBDCs are not being implemented for large store of values (to protect the super rich of course) - current proposals will have CBDCs capped at 20k per individual
The lightning network does not fix bitcoins fungability. It actually makes it even worse. Alby etc are all tied to email addresses etc The lack of fungability in bitcoin will make it worthless in the coming years for anyone except the elite who are beyond the law (in the same way fiat allows them avoid tax but the rest cannot) . Every bitcoin maxamilist knows this by now, which means every one of them is a scammer trying to push up the price before cashing out.
Monero was one of the early alt currencies. Yet none of the core Bitcoin devs have made any effort to make Bitcoin private. They won't acknowledge fungibility is an issue. Nostr devs are the same, pushing lightning is making the privacy issue even worse. They are so invested in Bitcoin they won't even talk about the privacy issue yet continue shouting 'freedom tech' every second post. Its just weird. None of the other issues with crypto: security, key handing quantum computing are much of a threat to its future than the fungibility issue . Bitcoin is about to be made utterly useless to the majority of people who operate within the law. The fungibility issue will see its total and permanent collapse in the next few years. Bitcoin is no threat to CBDCs , it shares its worse property: total control of who can and cannot spend where and when by state or corporate bad actors.
Monero already solved the privacy problem. There's no more work to do. Everything else is just lies and marketing by bitcoin holders hoping to get rich from the ignorance of others. Bitcoiners are holding back decentralised private money without writing a single line of code.
Bitcoin Bros don't want to know this truth. Bitcoin is public. The blockchain is monitored. You can't hide easily. If the feds want to criminalise it they can and they will. Cash will be easier, hide under your mattress with your now useless crypto keys!
Paypal is cheaper and easier. Visa, mastercard, fiat, all much much easier and cheaper and more private. Terrible systems, but still better than lightning in every single way.
Paypal transactions are not public. Bitcoin transactions are. Every single one. Even lightning devs admit its inconvenient and difficult to use. Most people don't know how bitcoin works or how to get hold of it, let alone want to set up a lightning node in their home. Which leaves it to signing up with alby custodial or similar (no more private than paypal), and even that is complicated for average person who definitely does use paypal without much difficulty. I hate paypal, i WISH bitcoin was more convenient and more private, but wishing it does not make it so.
it doesnt solve the problem of Nostr being flooded with fake opinions : people get zapped by those who have the money to buy influence. Thats the future of nostr. Its a network where those who have money (esp powerful coprs and billionaires) can ensure the opinions of the public can be bought one by one, organically and annonymously. It doesnt matter hoe many zaps a post gets, what matters is WHO zapped the post and WHY. And all we can say about that is that of its in the interests of rich and powerful, THEY WILL be zapping the most.
