Sports are games though. I think baseball is boring but basketball and football are fun. I understand why some people would enjoy baseball and dislike football. I just don’t understand people that don’t like any sports at all.
It is a substitute for tribalism for some people but why is that a bad thing? It’s a nice outlet for humans tendency toward violence. Better to let people play a physical game against each other than a violent one based on gang identities or something like that.
I’m not understanding your view that sports are not a game. They literally make video games based on sports. You keep score. There are rules. There is some skill involved. There are winners and losers. It’s a game.
You’re conflating what some fanatics do to the entire sport. That is not how YOU have to engage with it. Most people casually watch sports. It’s just entertainment like watching a movie. Can it be harmful? Sure. So can drinking water. But blaming the sport instead of the irresponsible individual is unfair.

What has meaning to one person may be worthless to another. Humans create meaning which makes it subjective. Dedicating your life to sports is meaningful to the individual. Just like dedicating your life to music or art. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t mean it has no meaning. Clearly it has plenty of meaning to millions of people around the world. If people are willing to pay for it, then it has some meaning.

I played call of duty a lot as a kid and players could talk shit in the lobby before the game started. I remember my friend making fun of some guy on the other team because his tag was totallytaco. He said his name was not cool. I still haven’t told my friend that I thought it was a cool name 😔

I think childless people have an unbiased perspective which is valuable. When I watch a spoiled child throw a tantrum, it’s obvious to me how the child was conditioned to behave that way. The parent denies the kid something and it cries. Parent feels bad and gives the kid the toy. The kid just learned a pattern. Next time the kid does it again and it works. Next time the parent says no and is firm on that position. The kid cries more intensely. Parent freaks out because the intensity is new to them so they give in. Now the kid learned to raise the intensity. It’s like the experiment that was done on rats where they were conditioned to press a lever for cocaine. Before that behavior can be eliminated, it intensifies. The rats would smash the lever repeatedly. That’s when parents usually fail and they fail because they’re emotional when they see their child cry. Raising a child isn’t very different from raising a dog. Keep in mind that ALL behavior is learned. A child screeching and kicking at the store for a toy is not instinctual. A parent may not see how they are training their child to behave that way and most other parents have kids that do similar things. That’s why getting advice from non parents can be very helpful.
Pavlov’s research on reinforcement with dogs. Children learn through reinforcement as well. It is not instinctual for a kid to bang his head on the floor to get what he wants.
Bitcoin will be mostly custodial in the future. The custodians will be the new banks. The rug pull risk will still exist. The risk of these new banks rehypothecating your Bitcoin will exist. So how are we going to prevent another 6102? The difference is that the Bitcoin standard allows you to hold the majority of your savings in self custody while your daily/weekly/monthly spending money is handled by a custodian. The gold standard was the opposite. You held the majority of your gold with the banks. That created a huge rug risk which would be devastating for everyone. Losing a couple hundred bucks on wallet of satoshi isn’t going to ruin your life. So I think we will see people get rugged endlessly by custodians but the damage will be minimized because it’s only a small percentage of your wealth.
Idk the exact numbers but I’ve heard this multiple times: there aren’t enough sats for everyone in the world to open a lightning channel. And high fees will make it difficult for poor people to add liquidity. I’ve lost more money trying send payments on lightning than on the base chain. Lightning sucks. I think solutions like liquid are powerful and offer the best tradeoff. Yes it’s technically custodial, but the rug risk is minimized because there are so many entities that would have to collaborate together to rug you. And custodial services like these can provide you more privacy. Obviously they won’t all do that but it is a feature that can be offered. And it’s more practical than teaching people coinjoin and join market stuff. The only thing the user has to determine is how much he’s willing to lose in his custodial wallet. That is the tradeoff that must be made.
I modified my dating profile a couple times this year and noticed the type of women I was suggested change a lot. At first I didn’t put much info and I got a lot of unattractive and/or large women. I noticed that the algorithms are now showing me smoking hot young girls. I’m talking girls that are 9-10. A lot of them are verified too so it’s not like bots or fake accounts. It’s pretty clear that the most beautiful women want the highest value men. And the wealthiest men want the youngest and most beautiful women.
