GN. Is it really fair to call it Android anymore or is it just PixelOS? IPhone and Pixel.
I think more people use the galaxy over the pixel lol
I personally don't see them as much anymore. Most non-tech, non-apple peeps I know switched to pixels in the past 2 years
The majority of people i know are on iPhone. I’ve never seen a non bitcoiner with a pixel.
Your comment makes me assume you're from the US? https://image.nostr.build/51779a0ee680a7f07f594432ce232993070f5ff0453a8815472c5eda5cd787e5.jpg https://image.nostr.build/da0393ca8575439f56ea6edbee693d3c911c9ad7fb9e94605ee90bff6b16c488.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwd55lJ6vzk
What a beautiful video. Android remains the true king.
Yeah most are IPhone users, but any that aren't are pixel for now, for me anyway. Phone stores have an iphone table, a pixel table, and a Samsung table, that's it, especially in smaller stores. If you want anything else they hand you a catalog (on an ipad) and tell you they can order it for you or ship it to your house.
Android Open Source Project is still a thing. 'Android' was always a generic term that made little sense to me unless the particular OS was an unmodified AOSP, which I've never seen. I suspect Google is eventually going to end their support of AOSP and lock down the Pixel phones if they get a large enough market share.
Yup thats my assumption now too. Why bother supporting when they have (eventually if not already) majority market share
They have already slow motion done this with the major apps in AOSP. Go look at the SMS app, for example. Google doesn't owe us anything, so not a criticism. Just an observation. It isn't a leap to imagine that they may do this with the OS at some point.
The main incentive I can see for them to keep Android open is that it's open, while the alternative isn't. If I had to choose between iOS and stock Android on a Pixel, I'd probably choose Apple. For context, I'm a hardcore GrapheneOS/AOSP maxi and have been since Android was created.
In reality, I'd actually just go back to a dumb phone or some Gnu/Linux phone, but I mean IF I wasn't willing to do that or it wasn't an option.
Chances are that's what I do. When I can get my own place again I'm going to have a "landline", a phone table, and an answering machine. Current social pressures already make this difficult. Most of my friends chat on different apps all day so I'm isolated from group chats, events and whatnot. So if we want to catch up or do something we need to schedule a call. So I don't often get invited to small things
