Some really awesome stuff. I still would love to see the ability to have multiple accounts, and to easily switch between them. Hopefully Notedeck will have that too.
I would be concerned about having what other people post and upload on my server. Even if people I know or allow, storing others people’s data on a server in my home seems dangerous.
Yeah I suppose images and videos are hosted elsewhere. I just don't want to be responsible for what other people say. I think if it's on your server technically you own it.
YakiHonne says the have “workarounds” whatever they may be, and there is a script that allow Damus to zap (Will referred to it in a recent video and mentioned not caring if Apple finds out at this point)
I’ve worked for small companies that got bigger. When small, they’re like: Ooh we need a database. Then they make a field for every thought that pops into their head, not having the experience and vision for what being bigger will be like. Fast forward to being bigger. Database bloat, complex, convoluted, difficult to use, employees hate it, more staff to maintain it, can’t get rid of it bc…data. It’s not political, just about efficiency, scaling, and forethought.
For me it’s about learning, setting it up, modifying cooling, overlocking etc. A fun project. I might try shared pool for the hell of it with one at some point. But it’s not profitable. It’d make more sense to just buy $20 of btc.
A small article about my Bitaxe miners. nostr:naddr1qqgrqwpkvscrye3kvsexgvnyv5urxq3qdryseu6yv7evgz2f7pfzk6wht8flapcfv5l6r4y65pg5px293awqxpqqqp65wndhkn2
I run an Alby Hub on Umbrel and it's great. My only concern is, what happens when your server goes down? Could be electriciy or internet access goes down due to reasons outside of your control. This could be one reason someone would pay for a cloud service with 99.999% guaranteed uptime.

True synced failover would be great. I’d be happy with an easy backup. Umbrel has a migration tool from RasPi to Umbrel Home. I just asked yesterday on their Discord why not make a back up to external drive tool, doesn’t seem like a big leap.
Randomly reading things like this, while somewhat incomprehensible to me, are brain stunningly fascinating.
“The Antlia Wall, also known as the Antlia Strand, Hydra Wall, Hydra-Antlia wall, Hydra-Antlia extension, and the Hydra-Antlia filament, is a filament that emeges from the Centaurus Cluster, passes under the Zone of Avoidance (ZOA) as the "Puppis filament", to link up the Lepus Cloud. This filament then passes though a region containing the NGC 1600 Group before crossing the boundary where the gravitional flows of galaxies between the Laniakea and Perseus–Pisces superclustersdiverge to link up with the Perseus–Pisces supercluster at a distance of around 420 Mly(130 Mpc) from the Centaurus Cluster.”

Not everyone can do everything. What may seem easy or trivial to us isn’t to many. A lot of people don’t want to deal with tech just use it, either by choice or just aren’t the kind of person to get it (and that’s not necessarily a bad thing). Just like I hate doing plumbing, and for most things happy to pay a plumber. And for simple tasks like fixing you toilet flushing, they make a nice little kit all ready to go you can get at the hardware store.
A lot of obesity here in the American Midwest. The amount of massive jugs and bottles of soda consumed is amazing. A lot of places upsell with discounts to larger sizes. Who needs 64oz or even 32oz of soda with a meal? I’m sure there’s all kinds of changes people could make, but cut out just soda (and any high sugar drink) out and I think we’d see a big change. Same with fast food. Thing is it’s cheap, and pretty good. So people at least here will keep eating it. Same with alcohol. I’ve know overweight (not necessarily obese) people stop drinking, and with no other change to diet, no exercise, lose a lot of weight (in these cases they were drinking significantly). I’m not an expert but these seems like some simple changes one could make.
Seems every client behaves differently. I think all these NIPs should offer standards but not everyone adopts all of them and seems they are still being created.
Why when I view this profile:
@Punkrock History
in @damus it shows notes from 1 month and older, even though there are many more recent notes that I can see in other clients??
Oh, let’s see, for starters…
That things about past, previous eras being better. We weren’t there. I doubt medieval times were better. Maybe they lamented the good old days of the Roman Empire. Depends who you are and where you were. A lot of people were here in America during the 1950’s. Before me but what I think was good was Rock’n’Roll and cars. If you weren’t white, probably wasn’t so great. The point being things are going to go where they go. Nothing was necessarily better in the past, a lot of things worse. One thing I agree with is humans will adapt.
And the thing about being made to feel guilty about being European, yeah all sides go sideways. The lefty woke liberal dems got ridiculous, lost touch and are hypocritical, alienated people. Yes Europeans did a lot of awful things, so did every culture…don’t feel guilty, you (or the author) didn’t do it. But you can still acknowledge what happened, it doesn’t need to be erased from history. It can be made better. And the nobles and aristocracy? Guess there’s nothing wrong with them if they didn’t cause mass suffering and misery for their own gain. Check your family tree, maybe there is something wrong with them. Whatever you think about European colonization, doesn’t matter, it happened (could have happened a lot differently, I guess in an alternate universe maybe it did) but it’s dumb and naive to think there wouldn’t be consequences one or two centuries later, we’re seeing it and gonna keep seeing it.
And speaking of the bs from the left, doesn’t mean the bs from the right is any better. I don’t get how people fall for Trump’s crap (and most of the right, especially the religious right), he doesn’t give a damn. And in the real world dumb young bros taking Trump’s lead talking crap in schools threatening young women is disgusting. I have a daughter and not gonna stand for that.
Speaking of bros, the whole men have lost their virility thing…look I eat meat and workout some, that’s my choice. Not all men have to be steroid musclehead Rambos (which I am certainly not). There is not a monolithic model for being a man, and it’s not just physical. I don’t care what a doctor or accountant or Uber driver can bench, I just want them to be good at what they do. There have always been high and low testosterone men, just need to have the right person in the right job.
Sure we got problems, and we’ll see more that have never been seen before. Yeah obesity is an issue, you know what? Stop drinking soda and eating fast food, we’d see obesity rates plummet (of course we need to look into the reason so much is consumed). There’s 8 BILLION humans, no easy way out. For sure people use climate change for their own selfish ends and are making a lot of bad decisions, but what’s so hard to believe about 8 BILLION people affecting the earth and the atmosphere?
I’m thoroughly sick of both sides. But regardless, everyone should get to say their piece.
I have Alby Hub I host on an Umbrel. Works great, though took some learning to get started (there are some great videos out there I recommend people watch before starting), not everything was intuitive, and I had some specific things I was trying to do. But all up and running and working well. Transaction fees don't seem too crazy to me for having control of my sats, and from what I understand much easier than trying to manage a pure lightning node (I mean, they do have to make some money).
It’s not one size fits all / all or nothing. Therapy can be a valuable tool used alongside all the other things mentioned. Talking and delving inwards with a trained outside perspective (a good one that is, there are plenty of shitty therapists out there) can be very helpful. And I question everything with skepticism: government, media, and men who think they are the epitome of mental health 😏🖖
Nostter looks really good. Nice clean design. But I just liked a note, and immediately at the top of my Home feed is the same note again showing my like. I don't need to see the post I just read 20 seconds ago again with my like on it. Please offer an option to filter out the replies. Thank you
Well, tbf, Nostr isn’t ready for mainstream. nsec is based on cryptography so username/password would defeat the purpose. You save passwords, your address, social security number, ATM PIN. You gotta save your nsec. Get a password manager app.
I would say unlucky to have such a lousy choice. The democrats suck, and republicans suck worse, Trump the worst. How does anyone think he really cares about the people? He was a liar and scam artist before politics. I can't abide by someone who tells American citizens of darker complexion to go back to the country they came from, talks about grabbing women's pussy. Do you have a daughter? I have to worry about mine who might be around men who consider that a-hole a role model. I'm sorry about troubles in your country, but my country's government causes unimaginable misery around the world no matter who is president.
Also I only get push notifications (iOS) when I go into the Yakihonne app. Why don’t I get them as they happen whether I’m in the app or not (like other app notifications do)?
I don’t know what the percentage of tinkerers is between Americans and Brits, but I rode a lot in the 90’s, and there was a large community of enthusiasts and tinkerers (in Minneapolis). Triumphs, Nortons, BMW’s, Moto Guzzis, Ducatis, Harleys…many were vintage. I did a little tinkering myself, mostly Harley, Guzzi, and some old Japanese bikes. Rode all over the western US. Also glad I came out of it ok. While in London last year stopped by The Bike Shed. What a cool place. And the new Norton’s are beautiful (with a price tag to match). Don’t know if I’ll ever get back into it but those were some great times in my life.
