Attn: #Alby users. How has your experience been with Alby after upgrading to Alby Hub/Cloud?
I don't have access yet. I lost it awhile ago.
I love #Primal Wallet. It’s fast ⚡️—payments are sent quickly ✅, just like Wallet of Satoshi but with lower fees! @Alby charges way too many satoshis for transactions, and I have no idea why #Damus forced me to use it. Not efficient at all! Just my two sats on the topic! Maybe will knows. @jb55
I added my own LifPay wallet to Damus, on primal it wanted some details to create a new wallet, do Primal verify those details in any way? (wanting to stay anon as possible) As far as Alby, that’s self custodial isn’t it? Seems fair enough they charge for it
Love it 🧡
I struggled opening my first channel, hosting albyhub on my Linux mint laptop. I didn't have an existing wallet to pay the first lightning invoice, and I got hung up on the "use on-chain Bitcoin" option. However after prodding from nostr:nprofile1qqsxtyf20tghl4w08wkva96e7wl28fz0ngeewdqw2kw0qeu5thrr30cpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhszythwden5te0dehhxarj9ekxzmny9uq3wamnwvaz7tmjda3kk7fwdehhxarjxyhxxmmd9u5uyevv to check in with their amazing customer support I got it rolling and I have no complaints!
I like it.. initially I only had the browser extension linked to Alby which was linked directly to my LN node... the issue I had was that the wallet showed the whole balance of my node, which was millions on satoshis......once I sideloaded Albyhub on my Start9 I was able to "Uncle Jim" a couple of wallets via the friends & family app and all problems were solved...now I have a wallet just for fun zapping that doesn't have access to the balance of my node... It only shows the 25,000 satoshi balance(when topped up) and I can easily see when someone sends me a zap. Thanks Alby....none of this is easy, but once I figured everything out, I have been having a blast with it.
Flawless
Whenever I use AlbyHub I start with a full load and end with an empty load, just like all Hub sites
I have Alby Hub I host on an Umbrel. Works great, though took some learning to get started (there are some great videos out there I recommend people watch before starting), not everything was intuitive, and I had some specific things I was trying to do. But all up and running and working well. Transaction fees don't seem too crazy to me for having control of my sats, and from what I understand much easier than trying to manage a pure lightning node (I mean, they do have to make some money).
Pros and cons to it all. Overall I enjoy it but I’m sure in 5 years things will become much more seamless and hopefully still private, open source, and decentralized.
It’s good, but some functionality is still missing (self-hosted zap address). You also need/want to run Esplora (which is overly bloated and I gave up at this point) 😂🫡
For those who already have an Alby account, it can be a fairly painless experience if running one's own node. I've played with a Pi Zero 2 at home and also on an ARM(aarch64) VPS. Both were straight forward and simple but some linux knowledge does help. Tips: - Pi Zero can only connect to a wifi 2.4GHz. - If you already have a VPS running something else(like own website), you can add an extra user(albyhub) and run it on port 8029. Then access it on "yourdomain:8029"
