"Fevered misdirection" is a wonderful phrase, but spares #Tories the responsibility for their lies.
The fever didn't make them lie. The unpopularity of their policies is why they lie.
@2a70c54d
Oh, I'm sure some billionaire will back him in 2024 to help drain off some support from Biden
Still, #UBI is a great idea and he did a lot to legitimatise it.
@2a70c54d
Yes! #McCarthy removed for getting a bipartisan deal that had more than 300 votes. I thought that's what we want in a government.
What is wrong with these MAGA people?
What is wrong with the rest of the GOP to tolerate them?
#RepublicansAreTheProblem
@43d7c4ea
It's not about believing in the future. It's about *building* for the future - and Tories don't believe in that.
For 13 years, Tories have solely focused on plundering the government coffers and bleeding dry every public service until we beg for privatisation.
We could have nice things, if we dropped the ruinous American view that "government bad" and went back to building public assets and a gov that works.
#NHS was a role model
#GreenEnergy is a massive missed opportunity.
@32c63b34
David Brooks is the classic dangerous "gray man".
His columns always start with benign truisms about topics of the day. But there is ALWAYS a key sentence halfway thru where he introduces an unsubstantiated strawman as a given and then pivots to an attack on liberals.
See for yourself.
@5a78798a@4c04d469@43d7c4ea
Agreed
It was impossible for them to support Labour after the GE, but their full-throated support of Tory policies for the full five years was a massive strategic and tactical mistake.
One can't help but notice that the primary decision-maker promptly left politics for a very well paid job at Facebook. Was his priority ever the nation, or even his party?
But let's not tar today's LibDems for Clegg's mistakes.
Manufacturing Consent, an Example
Thursday: A gov-funded think tank says taxes are too high (it's #BBCNews top story)
Saturday: The Chancellor says gov must end "vicious circle of ever rising taxes" by cutting benefits (another #BBCNews top story)
Sunday: Tory conference starts, promising action (eg cut services) to cut taxes

Imagine what is possible with a gov that wants to build #GreenEnergy

Sadly, many of the most rewarding careers (medicine, teaching, care roles, etc) are horribly undervalued and underpaid despite being hard to automate.
We could have a society with lots of stable, rewarding jobs - but we only clap for such essential workers under #ToryPlunder rule.

@43d7c4ea
Yes!!
I have my #headinhands when pundits/newsreaders talk about a second Trump term and talk about a self-pardon like it's an obscure tax policy change.
We're talking about blowing a massive hole in the judicial aystem, people. A hole that allows the destruction of democracy.

We KNOW the SCOTUS is compromised. Thomas and Alito through their wealthy friends and unwillingness to recuse + Gorsuch/Kavanaugh/Barrett by their association with Leo and lying during confirmation.
The FedSoc and clerk network is the back channel between all these crazy rw lawyers.
@43d7c4ea
True, time will tell
But airlines learned a dirty secret from the American healthcare system...
In a captive market, you make more profit selling to LESS customers at an ever higher price.
@43d7c4ea
I think the vast majority of large corporations simply don't care what customers think of their brands - because they have high market control and run an artificial scarcity model.
Airlines and concert promoters are perfect examples. You pay what they demand or you don't fly/go to the show. Ever more companies and restricting supply in similar fashion. With so many pubs closing, I'm not surprised some are trying this.
Late stage capitalism is built for #PriceGouging
@43d7c4ea
I can't help but view recent inflation as a mix of large companies using it as cover for #PriceGouging and small companies trying to survive.
But *everyone* must play this game because one of the absolute essentials in every business (eg power) is *still* double the prior cost.
I don't buy "supply chain disruption" as a cause since that was with us since 2020 (even worse).
IMO the #FossilFuel companies are extorting the world economy ...again

And here it is...2012 GOP Presidential nominee #MittRomney concludes:
“A very large portion of my party really doesn’t believe in the Constitution" (from his new biography)
But you don't hear him say THAT in interviews - or challenge his party to follow their oaths.

You think #HS2 was about expanding the rail network?
It seemed obvious to me that it was #ToryPlunder for their developer friends.
Note: HS2 is needed, sadly Tories are not the right people to execute any public investment.
Finally, the Met admits complete failure in the Everard arrests! It was an obviously bad choice defended for all the wrong reasons
I can't help but compare the Met's heavy handed enforcement of social distancing rules there with the complete disregard of rules in No 10 and lack of police interest there.
No clearer proof that policing priorities are wrong.

That's a key part of the #NastyParty Plunder Playbook:
Sweat the assets until they bleed
That's why the #CrumblingSchoolsCrisis was inevitable.
@603773e5
No, not a "dumb" move.
The truth would be "That was an unbelievably greedy and exploitative move. Making products worse and more expensive for our customers purely for more profit is morally wrong. I'm sorry, I'm stepping down and seeking mental health help"
@62a04c04
Go for it.
Trials of high-level politicians and their families are how we know we are a nation of laws.
Make your case in front of juries, in a court, and accept the results
#HunterBiden , #DonaldTrump , #JaredKishner, etc. If you can get probable cause from a GJ, bring the case.

There should be a special windfall tax on the primary owners of corporate stocks that correlates directly to the public assistance needed by their employees.
That would raise employee wages really quickly.

@f884fa2b
Nailed it!
Those with more power should definitely be scrutinized more closely.
A stunning miscarriage of justice by the radicals on the #SCOTUS
