with cinnamon, i can actually have my desktop theme exactly as i want it

gtk3 > gtk4
who in the fuck ever thought that the ugly poo brown colour of gnome dark theme or their pied fucking window theme bullshit ripped straight from macos was gonna be ok with linux desktop users
this here, "adapta" or aka "material oceanic" (the intellij IDE Goland top left calls it that)... this is the most pleasant theme IMO... not too colourful, neutral, dark... doesn't hurt my eyes and everything is at peace on my computer
gnome project is completely on the wrong path, thank God cinnamon forked gtk3 and let humans continue to have adequate GUIs on linux
one of my 27" monitors has decided that it's permanently in night light mode... so sick of the bullshit with multiple displays
got a 32" OLED coming and it can't come soon enough for me... and it will free up so much space on my desk to clutter up with more junk as well 😃
and literally it's gnome doing it... i installed cinnamon and suddenly everything looks different again
that tears it, no more gnome, i'm over it... peak gnome was version 3 and since then it's turned into a dumpster fire
https://i.imgflip.com/98dyll.jpg
yeah, i'm looking forward to having a single 32" 4k OLED display... supposedly it will be here after 5 sleeps
it's an MSI Mag and hopefully it has friendly controls that aren't confusing as the ones on those two nilox VA panels... and the thing that makes me crazy with those things too is when they are mounted normal way up landscape, the provided stands don't let me set the screens actually straight... so i have flipped them so they are upside down, and that's always annoying whenever i have to reconfigure the display... landscape flipped... surely in this day and age monitors should all have a simple accelerometer that automatically sets the direction... and when they say it's calibrated, it's actually, you know, within 2% of accurate consistent color
but no, too saturated, contrast too high, gamma too low, too blue, too green, to red, they are never the same, even i buy two identical model panels and nope, very noticable differences in output
only way to solve this problem is to just have one monitor... this one i'm getting also, it's QD-OLED which means it should have a fairly flat spectrum and not three nasty peaks like most of them are, either tricolors or shitty blended phosphor illuminators... i'm over this LCD tech, can't wait until there is no more being sold they are bullshit
This is happening because the earth's magnetic poles are unstable and moving faster, they were already moving so fast it was causing problems wiht airports in canada 10 years ago, and it's getting faster
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/shocking-rise-whale-dolphin-porpoise-strandings-wind-farms-proliferate-around-british
there is a lot of evidence to suggest that in the next 20-30 years the pole is going to move entirely and because of the tension between the magnetic core being aligned to our rotation the crust will break free and the two forces will equalise with the pole moving to new positions, the rotation will again return to its current vertical/tilted position and the crust will shift 90 degrees because of the lumpy shape of the magnetic materials in the crust
the models are suggesting that either north africa/west pacific become the new poles or it could be the carribean moves to a pole and the other pole is in ~western china
it's death for anyone on most parts of the planet, only well chosen and constructed refuges and spacecraft will be able to survive this
in ancient american tribal stories there is one about a time when the sun "turned evil" and became very bright and burned everything and other stories about "fire dragons fighting across the sky and turning everything they flew over into ash"
it's called a micro-nova, and these are starting to become better understood as more of them have been found in the sky
first they explode, and for maybe weeks fry everything with powerful UV light and then the material that is blown off the sun floats around for the next 1000 years or so, some of it aggregates into big globs, solidifies and then pummels the planets
and before that, the sign it is coming is stuff like this, the animals magnetic navigation systems screw up their whole map of the world, the auroras increase in intensity and how far to the equator they cover, rates of cancer and heart disease dramatically rise (more than just from the poisoning and radiation TPTB promotes)
it probably isn't happening this cycle, but either in 11 years or 22 years after that, at the next solar maxima, we will see a micronova, almost certainly, and a pole shift, and all that fun stuff
hopefully Jesus son of Joseph will bring his fleet to evacuate the worthy who seek Glory
if they win the house they can refuse to let the transition and it will be a new normal i suppose
giggles will be the clown at the front of the stage and all the ghouls will do whatever tehy were going to do without any pushback
places that already were wanting to push the feds out will gather, arm and expel the feds from their towns and there will be brushfire fights around the boundaries and there will no longer be the USA
i give it 5 years before the political structure is undone
americans won't accept communistic rule, once they realise that it has crept up on them
none of those put human authority above God
meekness is a key quality promoted by Jesus because those who are proud and violent are tools of Satan
you can't have a just government when you presume to use force to bring it, that's the whole point
if the government has been taken over by evil, then we are obliged to do what we can to stop them doing harm and to ultimately expose their degeneracy
#nostronly but even saying that one of my tasks at the moment is bringing #nostr, #bluesky and #farcaster to #arweave
i personally will only use nostr because i am in control of my feed here, even if the clients and relays are sometimes buggy
i never liked influencoors anyway
there is someone out there in the nostrverse who is running a bot that is polling relays that have no auth sequentially with very small time windows for 0, 2, 3 and 10002 events (profile metadata, recomended relay, follow list and relay list)
may i suggest that you revise your script so it first tries a COUNT over the total time window you are scanning for, because actually some relays do implement that
it's annoying me because i had disabled auth and removed the "owner" pubkey (which gives the follows for allowed access with auth and mute for blocked to save events) and after relay was running a minute or two, there it is
someone is clearly trying to gather a directory of stuff on nostr, running a dumb bot that is polling every relay URL it can get its hands on (and those events especially 2 and 10002 will feed it even more)
little tip
there is a relay now that can require auth to query or publish, even if nobody is explicitly allowed or banned, it just requires auth
you can actually just make up keys to sign auths with and bug me also when i set auth on except you won't get in because you aren't on my follow list and if you were i would remove you

interestingly it may actually be related to writing
right hand is controlled by the motor system in the left hemisphere which is the rational, forward time processing part of the brain
some recent studies (with brain scans and reading/writing exercises) have shown that right to left scripts engage the right brain (controlling the left hand) and weakens the capacity for language and reason overall
just look at the middle east, what direciton do they all write?
just as you leave the ink behind you as you write right handed left to right, to do that right to left you need to use your left hand and that trains part of your brain that is not suited to language, but instead is the part of our brain that does predictions and creativity, negative space, and so on
pretty sure that the people of the fertile crescent tried to spread out across into europe but funny enough the right to left languages did not
this is probably because right to left makes for overall less rationality and capability at warfare in general
it may seem silly but if the right brain is not made for sequential logic, but instead is better at telegraphic and holistic, visual thinking, then it also means less capacity at planning and strategy
there's probably more things involved in this but i'm sure if you tae that first thought (about the difference in brain hemisphere control of the hand) you might see a lot more things that are disadvantaged by using a left to right script, and left-dominant swing of the stick/club/sword is probably part of it too but the picture is probably a lot bigger
fremasonry is relatively speaking exoteric compared to the more secret groups that operate at above 33 and so forth
for the most part it is one of the several conduits for megalomaniacs to join the Club as Carlin called it
when i was working on a bitcoin fork called parallelcoin, i built out a whole upgrade for the protocol including a hardfork mechanism, totally redesigned block schedule and difficulty adjustment, and a GUI interface for the wallet and controller
i did most of the work, a little of it was done by my colleague, but it took about 2 years and was early alpha by the end of that period
i think that this is a typical timeline for a decentralised, crowd-sourced protocol as well, i think that nostr is still alpha, mid alpha even, because there is a lot of easy improvements to the protocol at this point that haven't happened yet but many are working in parallel on various parts of it
i think 3 years is how long it takes to get to beta, for a full blown protocol, for one developer to build a system out
there is almost no teams doing dev for nostr, maybe only damus and primal, almost everything else is one man bands, so this kinda dictates the timeline, and part of the reason is that we still don't have an optimal mechanism for sharing our specifications and deciding on how to settle differences between them, it's still hard to even find new proposed ones because there isn't even a convention for how to mark the name of a nip-proposal in the PRs of the nips repo, and some devs have already raced ahead (Stella and her crew, Pablo, and some others) making a wiki protocol, which will sooner or later do it, once enough people get fed up with how slowly the governance is working on the github nips repo
here's the thing:
this is a decentralised protocol
you don't need permission to try something
really you just need relay and client devs working closer together
there's no need for it, or to decrease it, or to increase block size
fee rates tell everything... if they became sticky at over $3/tx in fiat denomination of today then ok, maybe we need to look at it but at this point, no
most shitcoiners still don't get it that bitcoin has avoided a hard fork since 2017 and that was a soft fork, whereas most shitcoin chains hardfork every other month
they are utterly dim and retarded if they don't even think to ask the question "so how did that happen?" and the only thing that has driven the rates up temporarily has been shitcoin tokens on bitcoin, ordinals etc, and none of them have pushed the fee rate up for long, maybe a week and a bit in the worst cases
i personally don't even mind that funk anyway, but it is a bit bitter
when you walk around the semirural and rural areas of Madeira you often get a whiff of a billy goat around, that's the main smell, it's oxidised capric/caprylic acid
if the butter is made well it shouldn't smell too much but it should smell distinctly goat versus cow
i think we just need to put textnote and article kinds into the "replaceable" basket with a tag `["replaces","eventid"]`
specifically, if a kind 1 or 30023
hold on, articles are already in the replaceable number range
so, already kind 0 is replaceable, so is kind 3 (follows), it's just a matter of a tag i think? maybe even just use `d` like the rest?
yup, and it's not hard for relays to adapt so they usually just send teh new version, but if the new version has a "replaces" tag you can ask for that event by ID and it has etc back to the first
it would make finding them a lot simpler too, i should point out, and you can put both tags in the interim
it would only take me a few hours to add this function so that it gives back only the newest of a chain of events with replaces... just kind and pubkey has to be the same
when i finally get vehicles it's gonna be a dirt bike and probably a lada niva with crank either the siberia edition or added on
there's so many things about cars that i prefer to walk, taxi or take a bus, in that order of preference... but i hope to someday literally need one, and it's gonna be low tech as possible
easiest solution is to just get the oldest car you can and if that's still shit move somewhere you can get an older one that isn't shit
very often just being in a city makes all of that harder, out in the country they just don't have the resources to police that shit as much
i disagree, some things were just dumb ideas... i think that self driving cars is going to be a collossal disaster once something bad happens
the game Deus Ex: Mankind Divided contains a story involving this happening with cybernetic augmentations and then a critical component common to all of the implants is hacked and millions of people are killed by cybernetic implants gone mad
i'm not living in a city with "smart" anything or "15 minute" or pods
they can come and try and get me out in the middle of nowhere
i can assure you, they won't waste their time with us "proles" we just have to stay out of their way
also i don't think their system has got more than 15 years left in it, mainly because by then likely half the satellite grid gets knocked out by a micronova
also, classics tend to stay in good supply of spares for decades... the Lada Niva is like 40 years old and you can still find old ones around because they were so durable and practical... even they are still in use, like the bulgarian police still have a few at least they did a couple years ago
i have been arrested and it was over starting a business... actually that's been a recurring theme of unpleasant incidents involving me and the government over the years
partly why i'm low key and glad for being able to work remotely in my chosen career
personally i'd avoid any place that this is expected, anyway, restaurants are already absurdly expensive... gimme a pub meal and a pint of guinness forget this fancy shit
if you like #gamestr this weekend on Steam this most excellent, and simple, and deceptively challenging and addictive game Kingdom Two Crowns is free to pay
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/701160/view/4667509277698566851
i love this game... i guess probably because playing it is a lot like programming... you can only see a small part of the space you are interacting with, and it takes time to move between areas of it, and it exercises your ability to keep track of things that are not right in front of you
i probably get about 2 hours screen time a week at most already... i just am not interested in carrying around a device that is actively tracking me, or emitting radiation into my body
a government registered corporation is really an appendage of the state... ultimately they can rug you, but just because you own and run one and have a stake doesn't make YOU an appendage of the state, except as far as the business of this corporation
big money and registered companies put a bullseye on your back, but it's often required in order to do some things that require large amounts of money and coordination
i wouldn't do it, but i also know from experience with registering and operating a corporation (in bulgaria) that there is a substantial exit penalty also
i mean usable for POS... you can't be waiting much longer than a visa/MC card payment or it's not gonna fly
can't do that with stables, only Lightning, and the only well developed ecosystem for this tech is bitcoin lightning
also, stablecoins are already at peak demand at this point... xapo bank supports USDC and USDT as well as onchain and lightning BTC, but you simply can't do POS with stables, just can't
the payment use case is important... only bitcoin has the tech that can take Visa/MC/etc out of the loop which makes it much more viable for physical retail/hospitality
also, as far as fiats go, simply not printing is the only way to make the prices stable
otherwise, they are guaranteed to grow at 2-8% per year, and it got much worse in the last 4
inflation will make both consumers and vendors look for ways to shave their margins thinner
and yes, services like Xapo bank already do this via the credit card payment network
but with higher margins than LN can do, that's my point... when people are squeezed, they will eventually consider the saving to be worth the time to learn and deploy
the cards use case just is a problem
i live in madeira, and almost nobody except the big chains and centrally located shops has card terminals
they would sooner adopt LN if enough customers demanded it, because the cost of deployment of the setup is very low, they almost all have mobile phones that can already act as lightning payment terminals
i'm pretty sure that all artificial sweeteners are nephrotoxic (harm the kidneys)... liquorice certainly is, and stevia is closely related chemically, and for sure most of the synthetic ones are also nephrotoxic... acesulfame-k and sucralose i'm almost certain that one or both of them causes potassium deficiency
i became very aware of all of this about 2000 as i tried to start up my own freelance tech support service
i always thought that tax refunds were an interest free loan since i first heard about them
and i was very aware of the cost of administration of these taxes and actually trying to run a simple registered company to act as a vehicle for international freelance employment payments i was unable to actually even GET those refunds, and that was the whole point of it
and on top, if i wanted to shut down the corporation, and not get penalised for failing to lodge statements, i had to pay some $1000 of fees to do this
so you know what i did? i just left te country and never came back
and i'm glad i didn't get pushed to do this kind of nonsense with my current main gig... i just get a monthly bitcoin payment to yet another new address and i'm not telling anyone without gunpoint at this point, how much, when, or who, or where
and nobody is asking anyway
the closest i have had contact with the government here has been dealing with customs duties, which are absurdly expensive, some 30% of the value of the price of the item plus the cost of shipping combined
at some level they are gonna drive a LOT of business outside of the CBD off the books, and at some point that is going to mean bitcoin/lightning because really, it's as convenient as cards with almost zero margin
i think government should be funded by those whose business requires coordination across broad geographical areas, and basically be specific to the market, not even government really but where the people who do the things get together and argue about what is going on and make decisions how to avoid waste and such
sorta like scientific journals and other similar forums like conferences being how scientists share and build consensus and agreements and make new cooperative projects
stuff like phillps head screwdrivers and bolt sizes and thread standards... that's the only government we need
a monopoly on anything leads to no good... it should just be a forum for each market and market segment
frying seed oils is unhealthy no matter which way... coconut, avocado, olive or tallows
tallows taste the nicest
an airfryer if it can cope with that, you still first have to dip your stuff (with dry surface so the oil can stick) in warmed up oil, only good oil of those that isn't solid at RT is olive
yeah, according to Jack Kruse, frying carbs in seed oils is a very bad idea... most notably one of the chemicals that can form is called "acrylamide" and yes it is probably related to the chemical in acrylic paint
likely this is way worse when you increase the oxygen availability... a deep fryer is not exposing the fried material to constant refreshed high oxygen content air, so likely the fact might well be that air fryers are WAY more unhealthy than deep fry
my personal take on all this, is that if you are frying, you should go for slow, lower temperature, and deep fry, and let the oil stay at the warm temperature for a while before you start to add things to it as this increases the elimination of dissolved oxygen in the liquid
oxygen is not very soluble in oils, compared to water, so also, important to let things be dry before you deep fry them
i don't see why it would be unhealthy, if all done correctly, slow cooked, low temperature, even if it is carbs
yeah, my main problem with air fryers is just that they move the stuff around too much, that especially makes potato chips crappy
and i also learned with slow low temp deep frying with sunflower oil and potato chips that you can even tell when they are finished, because a lot of them start to float, because the interior has become mostly dessicated and only contains -basically - steam, and small air cavities all through it
i remember when slow cooked "kettle" chips first appeared, i love that stuff, and it's definitely more healthy for you than regular fry at higher temps... if the seed oil is at or near smoke point it's the acrylamide thing... and i can smell it, it does put me off, now i think about it
makes me think... i should try and put together the proper kit to make slow cooked deep fried french fries, including a good temperature controlled cooker rig that lets me do slow cooking
i am enjoying the low carb at the moment but slow cooked fries are really high fat, i mean like maybe half the weight is fat... so it's a good way, if you can avoid the problems, to get a very high fat content
idk, just would be nice to have some slow cooked deep fried taters once or twice a week anyway
also i don't think any of this implies supporting government anything
it's just facts and the Law of God
the government is actually part of the problem that this can exist at all, otherwise fathers and mothers would govern their children and make them marry and do the right thing to go forth and multiply
it's caused by the earth's magnetic field being weakened by a contrary galactic magnetic field oscillation that is becoming known as the "galactic current sheet" because electrons travel along it's spiralling ripply path
this increases radiation hitting the earth, which sterilises a lot of things, and causes a lot of cancer, it increases the amount of cloud cover, lowering the temperature, it causes increased volcanism, earthquakes, and it can (and probably does, every 12000 years or so) cause the entire crust to slip around 90 degrees to whatever is the most dense polarisation of the solid ferromagnetic material in the crust to line up with the galactic current sheet's polarity
and the Carrington Event was one of the precursors, and then there was multiple strong and increasing reactions to large solar flares, 1930s, 70s, and again about 2006 or something, and we are seeing a new one, and the ratio between the intensity of the flaring versus the amount of geomagnetic storm intensity has been sliding down a parabolic curve towards the total disappearance of the magnetic field, which will only last about 5 years maybe, while it is nearly zero, and in that time it can trigger a pole shift because the earth's core is now being pushed in a different direction to its solar-driver orientation and rotational inertia
anyway
you'll all see what i mean in the future, the science is out there if you want to search for it but the simplicity of it and the way it so much better explains so much geological and paleontological data is why i believe in it, and not only that, there is human written records that hint at many elements of this scenario
