PSA for anyone who toys with the idea of going for a run, but can never quite get out the door.
Read this and never look back 🙏

of course, but then I can take my follows and say GFY admin, I'm gonna start my own shit and we part ways right?
I actually never went down the mastadon route, but my understanding is that the admin could just say - we don't like your opinion bye bye - and you'd lose essentially your social graph on that server. Is that right?
I like the possibility of digging deeper in to a specific subject or group topic, but still having the general townsqure of my feed, and most importantly not having some opinionated admin control my entire social graph
Don't get the take. Why is dystopian to have a "Club House" that not everyone is invited too? I'm assuming you probably wouldn't like the content there either, so isn't this just less stuff to ignore on your own feed?
I don't see how nostr as a social protocol can scale without tools like this...Like, imagine nostr will millions of people, everyone just shouting in to the massive void, with only hashtags to sort through it all.
Check it out here, the website probably does a better job explaining than I can: https://soapbox.pub/ditto/
Then, here's a real world example of it being used

are these private relays?... Im familiar with both names but Ive been sleeping on what they actually are.
ditto looks like a self hosted relay software?
Anyway - will take a look
There have been periods of life where I can relate.
Its tough man. Gotta try some other format for expressing yourself I guess. Didnt I see you breakdancing once? 😅 Maybe you just gotta chuck on some beats and break dance dude. Something better than nothing.
No harm in blasting thoughts in to the nostrverse in the meantime though. Youre not alone on this spinning rock 💪🤙🫂
Man, sorry to hear you feel like that. Not gonna pretend Im some philosopher, but "It’s always darkest before the dawn" as they say. You'll come out the other side, just gotta fight through it 💪
Haha great idea ❤️ ! I live next to a pianist too, they are mind blowingly good.
Also went on a debussy spree a while back and couldnt stop playing this one: https://song.link/s/4VpLwqzkob5lUeTE9rCqcK
Because you'd already have a highly secure base with no centralized app store (Google) built in by default.
What would make it a "nostr phone" a "nostr phone"? I guess thats the question. I imagine,
- built in nostr onboarding and key creation for new users
- System level "Sign in" for exsisting users (this store your key locally in some kind of system-wide Amber/local nsec bunker type funtionality)
- Nostr-centric app store like @Zapstore to install your apps (you already have your key stored locally so you wouldn't even have to sign in to see your web of trust)
- Contacts Intergrared with nostr, similar to Mutiny
- A selection of daily use apps added out the box, ideally most that rely or intergrate with nostr
Of course, you'll always be able to just install the apps, but I guess this would be an expereience taylored to work really well out of the box, using as much cutting edge nostr stuff as possible at the system level.
I mean, I hate to say it but I always think Uber does a great job.
The UX does what it needs to do, and gets ahead of tasks you need to complete as you go through the process. The nailed the standard ride experience.
- Open app, "Where you going"
- "Heres the rate"
- Pick
- "Hey, your driver is here"
- Ride
- "Hey, you want to tip in advance?"
- End journey
- Next time you open the app "Hey, how was the last ride"
- Rate
- Repeat
The happy path is a well oiled machine, Id say this is an examlpe where I almost forget about the UI even exsisting.
Here's the thing. I love FOSS and experimenting with new tools and freedom software (eg. using nostr, running Linux, using Graphene with as many FOSS apps as possible etc. etc.).
However, sometimes I also curse my decisions when all of a sudden I don't have time to fuck around with my hodge-podge setup :D
For example, the other day I needed to drive somewhere in an emergency, and I needed nav because I wasn't sure where to go. You think OSMand (FOSS nav app) could find it? Fuckin' nope! Bailed and downloaded Google Maps - the exact thing I'm trying to avoid. I hate that we "need" these fuckers so much.
Its a handful of mini cuts like this every day. Most people would never do this to themselves. Not quittin' just venting :D
