It's clear to me that they are actively suppressing what lies beneath. I think there is a site somewhere in the East (Malaysia, maybe) which has suffered similar restrictions on further excavation for no good reason, and it may be even older than this one.

Not specifically. The site is huge though, there has only been a small amount excavated so far. Have you ever been down the mud-flood rabbit hole? Some interesting and inconsistent observations compared to what we are taught, and there could certainly be some of that there. As with most things, the people with 3 letters next to their names have blinkers on and cannot thing outside of the box. So I'm not entirely surprised to see credentialed people terrified that decades of their work could be invalidated, regardless of the field in question - archaeology, physics, virology, etc.
