Saw a new miner being pitched at BTC Prague and did a quick calculation. With 1 TH/s at 40w and at $0 cost for electricity it's making ~ $1.38/month for €225. Meaning the ROI is 13.58 years (assuming that the difficulty doesn't increase) https://image.nostr.build/1ca741cee8644ac41588e3d33b5af6235d157beee0a5caa0e3ca864e036b5290.png
That's in dollar terms. Sats are worth way more so either electricity is mispriced or the dollar is mispriced.
The electricity was priced at ZERO, else there is no ROI for that machine.
In my mind anything that generates sats is positive ROI.
you're better off buying sats right now for that €225. 81 sats/day if you can run it for free wont make you happy.
I'd agree. So somewhere in that equation something is mispriced. S9s basically cost 0$. They are negative after power. I think if we have a free market (btc is not a free market) anything that generated sats would be +ROI.
I'd say the hardware is mispriced. The calculation is sound.
but you can price it in sats. ~0.00000081 BTC/Day again assuming that difficulty does not increase in the next 13 years
They got any more of that free energy? https://media.tenor.com/pOfUpPxwgHEAAAAC/is-it.gif
🤣 even on free energy you're better off just slam buying 225€ worth of BTC right now.
Yep lol. This is why I quit running the one miner I had and never got any more. After factoring in my power costs and the fact that I don’t live anywhere that it’s cold enough to use as a heater, it was a no brainer. Would have been a huge net loss for me.
Yeah mining changed A LOT around 2016 when we quadrupled the hash rate with the S7's. I think S5 was the era where you could still ROI on hardware in a short period of time while stacking serious sats. The S7's were a game changer and around that time I also stopped printing my own money. Much sad, best experience I ever had.
A bitaxe supra?
lol no, different name
You could solo mine testnet4 with that
Prefiero poner GM todos los días en #nostr y así recibir mas
