Think of one friend who's been in a constant struggle to lose weight since you've known them.

Now think of one friend who's constantly battling depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues.

Got them picked?

Now let me magically predict both of their diets:

Lots of plants & plant-based products, "low-fat" versions of everything, and little to no fatty meat.

I dare you to open up their fridge and tell me I'm wrong.

You are wrong on both counts, as far as my friends go.
I’d say his comment is decent but leaving out the degree of very “fat” foods that are drowning in seed oils.
Normally I just ignore this stuff, but he did dare me to tell him he's wrong and he was.

I'm certainly with you on how unhealthy so much of modern food is. Where I probably differ is that I think focusing on whole foods, predominantly plants, is best for long-term health, rather than going all-in on animal products specifically.
 Nope.
 Elaborate?
Your prediction failed. I know plenty of sad overweight people who eat almost no plants and lots of animal fat. No judgement. Just facts.
Yeah, there’s A LOT more than goes into it than just “eating animal fats”.

I was successfully on a Keto diet for a few months and for me, the benefits were pretty awesome. Got a lot of energy back, felt better, all that good stuff. However, to consistently be in a state of ketosis requires a lot of discipline and planning. You can’t just go out and eat wherever you want. You have to plan ahead and make sure there’s something on the menu that fits your diet. You have to constantly plan out your meals and educate yourself on what you can and cannot eat.

In the end, it was too much for me to maintain with a family of 5. Benefits were great, but the day-to-day of it was time consuming and difficult.
I have just super simplified everything to make it easy. I have bacon and eggs on the morning, ground beef or some other ground meat generally at lunch (also chicken apple sausage and the like are common), and then a steak for dinner (air fried for 10 mins because it’s insanely easy). I obviously don’t keep this up every single day, but when I’m just at home working, this is basically my diet.

My grocery list is simple, it’s easily reproducible, it’s delicious, and I don’t have to plan or think about what I’m going to eat. Usually if I’m out of something, I just eat bacon and eggs again. If I go out to eat somewhere, I just get a steak and get them to cook it in butter. If they use some rapeseed oil shit it ruins my recording for at least a day. That shit is poison and *everything* is cooked in it now. I just wouldn’t eat out until I realized that’s what it was that was killing my sinuses and inflaming everything. Going butter only and then simply not eating if they couldn’t do that, I’ve not had the problem anymore.
Carnivore diet is intimidating to start and simple once implemented. Eggs and bacon if you need breakfast (or just chug some raw eggs), grill up a couple of steaks at night (one for dinner and one for #pocketsteak🥩). I do eat veggies from time to time as well when I feel like it.
It’s also more difficult if you’re feeding more than just yourself. I’ve got 3 small boys that aren’t always going to want that plus a wife who is a bit of a picky eater. And while she likes steak, I don’t think I could get her to commit to it daily. So I’d have to plan out cooking for both myself and the rest of the family which gets a bit tedious. Not impossible, just hard to maintain without an iron will and dedication.
I’ve got kids, too and can confirm. They are good eaters but definitely want more than just steak and raw eggs 😂
Have you tried reverse searing your steak?

1. Bake oven at 250 and pull when it is 10 degrees below your desired temp.
2. Just before you pull it melt some butter in a cast-iron skillet over medium-high to high heat.
3. Pull and sear on all sides.

Let it rest for a few minutes and bam, perfect steak every time!
I have actually! I ended up cutting out the oven though (just to save a step) and started searing then basting with butter on the cast iron skillet. Got pretty good at getting it to the desired temp through that method after some trial and error.
You are wrong. I am heavy and have a well balanced diet which includes local ranch sourced meat. I do understand my reasons for my weight though.
The problem is the carbs. "Balanced diet" is a fiat myth pushed by Big Food to convince people they should eat some poison just so they can make more money.

Go zero-carb and the weight will melt off without any need to toil away for hours in the gym as @TheGuySwann alluded to in his original note.

I recommend this podcast to gain a deeper understanding of why the carnivore diet trumps everything else for weight loss 👇

Yes, and I am focused on my dietary choices. Unfortunately too much attention is dedicated to a “diet” than a way of life that is sustainable and reasonably healthy. Enjoy life, enjoy moderation and enjoy yourself. I’m glad your decisions are working for you and you are enjoying the results.
If I were deathly obese, I would whatever diet it took to get my body back to a more healthy level, not a 5% body fat as too many focus on being “healthy”
Disagree., low-fat and diet products are just a symptom not the cause. The cause is always eating unhealthy snacks between meals, particularly in the evening, usually crisps and chocolate. Show me a fat person and I guarantee they sit on the sofa in the evenings eating crap. Taking in calories when your body doesn't need it just before sleep means it goes straight on as fat.
"The cause is eating unhealthy between meals"

Yes but WHY do people get trapped by these constant cravings for snacks 24/7 in the first place?

Answer: Their satiation signals are out of whack, because they're deficient in protein and fat.
If we're counting flour, sugar and corn syrup as 'plant-based', 100% agree.

Full disclosure: I spent most of my life being overweight. Even in the army I ended up on the 'fat boy program' that included double-PT and going to classes taught by a morbidly obese nutritionist on how to eat healthy. I wouldn't dream of treating someone as 'less than' because they struggle with being overweight, especially if they're trying to do something about it.

I recently started a part-time janitorial job in a building with about 50 office workers. One part of my job is emptying trash cans beside each desk. There's a lot of work to get done in a small amount of time, so I don't have a lot of time for small talk, plus I try not to interrupt them while they're working at their desks. I try to laser-focus on getting in, empty the trash and get out. This has caused me to notice some 'coincidences'.

For starters, women really seem to like wearing open-toed shoes, even while working. Me personally, life is hard enough without having to nurse an injured foot, but to each their own.

Secondly, when you're running office-to-office emptying trash and looking for carpet that may need spot-vacuuming, you tend to notice feet more than faces. This is where the pattern becomes recognizable. Swollen feet (inflammation) in close proximity to trash cans full of discarded junk and/or fast food packaging.

Some of these offices even contain stat-bikes, dumb-bells, etc., so it's not like they aren't trying to improve their health. But they're like a brave commander trying to win a military campaign while being fed bad intelligence about the enemy. Our money isn't the only thing the establishment has turned into crap.

I ran Employee Training for many years. I personally taught over 9,000 people. My office was across the hall from the women's restroom.

Over the years I noticed that the women who purchased junk food for lunch (Subway, Burger King, McDonalds) created WAY MORE horrible noises and stenches in the restroom than the ones who brought food from home.

Anyone who wants to lose weight can easily do so simply by abstaining from corn syrup/ "diet" beverages and wheat.
You don't have to clean very many ladies rooms before you start wishing all women could work from home 🤣
