Seeing how fit Tyson is at 58, kind of surprising he didn’t launch a fitness brand. Would be a good fit i think. Could go beyond apparel - into supplements and gym equipment. I mean, his nickname IS iron Mike …
Shitcoins are a scam. Filecoin is nonsense. Don’t know what nexo is and don’t care. All you need to do to determine if something is a scam is to ask one question: can this purported function be achieved without this shitcoin? The answer is always yes. If you get a NO, then you’re just not thinking right. Shitcoins are money grabs at the expense of weak minded or lazy idiots, or other scumbags who wish to enrich themselves while leaving someone to hold their bags.
I’ve seen literally hundreds of devs trying to start things and the vast majority don’t make it. The ones that do build super fast and try many things until something works. That thing that works is usually a clone of an existing business, but in some cases with a twist (some new aspect). I’ve never seen a single unicorn paradigm shift startup up close. Not that they don’t happen but the odds are astronomical probably.
So really what you need is a super builder good with hypothesis formulation for why something will work, but then they also have to do marketing. A friend was a good example of this, build a weekend project and made a couple grand, no biggie. But then leaned all in on marketing and building a personal brand, listening to feedback and improving product. Now, very successful. People don’t realize how much marketing plays an important role but all I hear on nostr is build it and they will come which is hilarious and stupid.
I think you and I both understand what marketing entails. It’s not what everyone imagines. Common thing I read here is bluesky PR department. Always a good laugh.
This is not true. PayPal did a lot of marketing back in the early days. This was his big ticket sale. From there he already gained personal brand notoriety which only grew with bold attempts like a space company.
It’s so weird that whenever there are discussions about decentralized platforms I see bluesky mentioned every time but zero mention of nostr - like it doesn’t exist.
Some bizarre universe or what
When I talk about marketing and nostr I’m not referring to traditional marketing, which most people imagine as PR or some meat space activity. Marketing entails entire product vision communicated in the most effective way. This could mean approaching online communities, having a single place to send people, building integrations, tapping into referrals etc…
Mastodon and Bluesky both have a place to send people. You can type either into google and see a feed almost right away. Nostr makes you read a bunch of crap and then asks you to make a choice of “client” - not even an app. Small example, but you get the idea.
Personally I think nostr.com should be exactly like mastodon website - a sort of main client you can visit and get a sense of the activity here - maybe see a trending feed. But it’s been hijacked for personal gain. But there are other activities we can do something as simple as participating in discussions on hacker news and anywhere else bluesky gets mentioned.
My 4yo joined in watching the fight. He wanted to spar between the rounds.
I’d say it was worth watching for that alone. He got his first preview of boxing watching the legend himself
It’s interesting how people who have no previous interest in sports are all of a sudden into a boxing match.
Some sort of group signaling or something. People want to be part of the “current thing”.
I don’t recall it being difficult to understand even when we didn’t have much of anything. I knew there was nostr and one way to access it was Damus.
Content / people / community is the biggest hurdle.
