I'm custious to #asknostr what other crypto do you think will succeed? I've noticed most #nostritches are #Bitcoin only, but there some alternatives that seem to have real utility. #filecoin hasn't really paid off but I'm not sure why. The idea of earning for shared storage seems really sound. And the idea of #nexo always appealed to me too. So far it's never really worked for me but I feel like it ought to. I'm also keen on #privacy #coins like #Monero. That seems like a real world use case to me too. Maybe I'm just too much of an optimist?
Shitcoins are a scam. Filecoin is nonsense. Don’t know what nexo is and don’t care. All you need to do to determine if something is a scam is to ask one question: can this purported function be achieved without this shitcoin? The answer is always yes. If you get a NO, then you’re just not thinking right. Shitcoins are money grabs at the expense of weak minded or lazy idiots, or other scumbags who wish to enrich themselves while leaving someone to hold their bags.
And filecoin take ages when you send them to somewhere!
So you are agreeing that the use case for #Monero is real? Nothing else can do what it does. Imterstimgly, by your definition every exchange coin has real value as long as the exchange thrives. Because you can't use anything else to replace Bin or Cro for example. They have special uses on their exchanges.
Well yes that's also true of eth a lot of the time. I actually hate eth in some ways. It's the most wasted potential of any coin. It will never be mainstream because ordinary people outside the USA banking system can transfer money cheaper that eth gas fees. Wise is way cheaper than eth for almost any currency you can think of.
Monero is the only true decentralized currency
It's hard to argue with that, not least because there are so many definitions of the term decentralised. For example #Bisq is the only truly decentralised t trading exchange around, but many people think #umiswap as qualifies. That's one of the weird things about #defi. Even the terminology is crowdsourced :)
Not only Bisq, you have Haveno-reto for Monero, that is a Bisq fork 👌
I'll have to look into that. There's no readymade for #Manjaro so I'd have to compile it, assuming they make the source code available and it's up to date.
I think it doesnt run in arch based distros, at least in arch linux it doesn't run, but it runs in debian based distros. You can find more infos here: https://haveno.exchange/
I might have a look in the AUR tomorrow. It is possible to install deb packages on arch with debtap, but I always seemed to get that wrong so I'll see if someone has done it for me :)
You probably don't need to install the deb package. You can do similar as you can with bisq by extracting out the contents of the deb package and running the haveno binary. If fails to run due to any dependencies required, install using normal way
It's also really interesting in another respect. I remember when #Bitcoin advocates used to say the test was if it was independent of the markets. As time has gone on, that has become less true if #btc and more true of #Monero #xmr didn't follow the crash and it isn't following the run now. It's standing alone.
we are #btc and #xmr ❤️
