I don't see how taking free contributions from Russian contributors is supporting Russia's political aggression. Unless they were being paid or there's some other law not being mentioned here...

I believe there are some export laws that cover certain types of software, but it isn't as clear to me as he implies it should be.
I just watched my first Feynman lecture and his genius as a lecturer (if nothing else) was quite apparent within the first few minutes.
nostr:nprofile1qqs9v9et20mnqagtgrnrc5qmzcrgmkt2y3087p23vawqlmyczlhfdcqpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejszxmhwden5te0vejk2ern9ehx7um5wghxyctwvshhq6trwvq3vamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwdehhxarj9e3xzmnyrwt363 replaced my Q that got nuked after updating the firmware per the guide.

They also replaced my MK4 that was having many bizarre issues after an update as well.

I updated the new hardware to the same versions as before (latest as of this note), and everything is working so far. I have no idea what happened. I found someone else who had the same issue with their Q.

Either way, the support team helped me out pretty quickly and easily. Honestly, it was a lot better than most companies I've had to deal with, so good job there.

What I would like to see is more care with updates (assuming this wasn't some manufacturing issue or wild coincidence). Maybe it was unavoidable. Testing updates on more devices out in the wild could be a good idea, if not already being done. I'm willing to help.

No funds were lost. Shit happens. We will see how the long term testing of the new hardware goes.
It was for me too at first compared to the SeedSigner or Trezor Model T I've been using.

The SeedSigner has by far been my favorite and the most reliable, but all of them have tradeoffs somewhere.

The Q has some interesting potential. The physical scanner is amazing, but my laptop camera can never scan the display in reverse (works perfectly on my SeedSigner though).

It definitely needs work, but has a lot of potential for advanced users (in my opinion).
If you want to imagine a small number, consider how few people on the planet give a fuck what's happening on Bitcoin X.

Imagine an even smaller number by considering how few people on Bitcoin X are original thinkers who aren't just parroting someone else or mindlessly trolling.

There's a lot of boring circle jerking in this space, and I've definitely participated in it. Guilty.

Honestly, I can see why most people aren't interested.

Money shouldn't be a religion. It's a tool. Fucking use it and live life. Bitcoin X isn't real.
I don't mean to say that spreading someone else's ideas is necessarily a bad thing. Only that it can easily become religious or tribal once people start deifying influencers (like Saylor) or participating in the latest drama. People can do whatever they want. I'm just bored with it and don't think it deserves my energy.

Bitcoin is the best money I've found and I just want it to be that. I don't need it to be my religion or sole focus in life. The whole point for me was to free up my mind to focus on important things, and Bitcoin X isn't it. Unfortunately, I can't escape it even here. 😁

Life goes on. ✌️
 Copying is not theft.
Stealing a thing leaves one less left
Copying it makes one thing more;
that...
You essentially are making those investors take the bus if you copy their product and sell it a price they can't compete with. There's a difference between an idea and a usable product that has been developed at an expense. Plenty of people have ideas, but that isn't worth shit unless someone is willing to invest their energy into making it real.

We protect intellectual property so investors can recoup their investments rather than just being eaten by people who didn't take the initial risk. If you want to give away what you invest in and create then fine. But you don't get to say that forcing everyone else to do that isn't theft.

This seems like it was written by a mentally delayed child in a communist country.
Product development doesn't just fucking happen. It's an invention for people who want to live in a civilized society where investors and innovators aren't just sacrificial animals who get no reward for their effort.

You can't compete with someone who gets the benefit of your labor without bearing any of the cost for it.

The mental gymnastics to justify stealing is quite incredible.
 Yeti engineering is on point.
I can't remember who it was now, but I warned someone on X about investing their time, money, and energy into this and got a snarky response about my intelligence or some other ad hom I think.

Fuckem.

I don't try to save people anymore. It's a waste of MY time and energy, which is far more important to me now (as it should be).

Hopefully we both learned valuable lessons.

#Nostr is the way for me.

All roads politicians are willing to take do. But there are roads we could take that don't just prolong the illness and let it grow.

It's like the scenario of ripping a bandage off vs pulling it off slowly, except in this case the bandage never comes off and actually grows in surface area and stickiness over time.

That's what you get for having politicians rather than leaders.

I don't think it's the same concept as selective breeding.
Meh. It's like pretty much everything else. A lot of the science will be wonderful, but you will also have weirdos who go way too far. I have ethical concerns about some of it. It's something we will definitely have to figure out.
Yeah, I think it's an example of some people taking something too far. It happens with everything. I can definitely see this becoming a racist type thing, but I can also see it doing a lot of good for normal people. It'll be a spectrum of normies all the way to fucking weirdos.
On my selective breeding point, I meant that it will likely be more precise than getting a pug out the deal lol But, only time will tell. We definitely need ethical debates on the shit for sure.
Selective breeding of dogs, plants, etc has historically been a try and see approach (a best guess) by discarding the undesirable offspring and only breeding the desirables. That is not the same thing as targeted gene modification.

Having sex with a partner who looks good with the hope of having a pretty baby is selective breeding. That's not a new idea.

Editing the genes directly is totally different.

https://royalsociety.org/news-resources/projects/gm-plants/how-does-gm-differ-from-conventional-plant-breeding/
Or in this case looking at the genes directly and deciding all is well and changing nothing.

This isn't a binary issue. There are benefits to these advances beyond just having a baby later in life.

It's totally awesome that parents can learn beforehand that their child will have a terrible disease, etc, for example. I tend to find the whole eye color, gender, etc thing weird and something we should discuss, but the medical application for prevention and treatment are amazing and should continue.

Most people tunnel vision on one use case, and either discard everything because of that or some other ridiculous religious belief. Both are equally dumb.

I think we use the wrong measuring stick sometimes. Indie software is a great example. 1M per year in revenue is basically nothing to a company like Google, but it is quite significant to an indie developer. So you may not attract a VC or buyer, but that doesn't make it worthless.
If I were a judge, I would destroy this mother fucker to the greatest extent allowable. You would very much want me as the judge in a countersuit. He'd be living under a fucking bridge by the time I finished.
Install an alarm system in your home. Even if it was just local, a noise maker tied to every entry point would have spoiled a lot of the historically significant crimes that are being studied today.

This isn't a perfect solution, but most criminals care about being caught. Do everything you can to bring attention to them and you'll be more likely to win.

I'm in the US, so being armed and trained is a part of that. But you can't defend against what you don't know is there and making a bunch of noise is almost always going to be in your favor.

Peace.
I don't know what villain arc means, but I'm proud of you for putting work into something you value. I need to work on my health. Great to see.
Some humans will be predatory monsters no matter what. No amount of parenting or social influence will change that (but it can indeed help in many cases and should be explored).

It is understandably difficult to accept this for the average human, but my extensive research on serial murderers (yes, I know that's an odd interest, but it is important) has led me to this conclusion.

We have to accept some level of evil in the world and mitigate it the best we can. Perfection and safety are myths in this reality. Prepare accordingly and then live life happily.
I wasn’t t going to vote but now I have to since Ross is on the ballot. nostr:note1pw0k54npz0j0...
What some people fail to realize is that hope and numbers do have meaning, even if they don't immediately change every wrong you see in the world.

It could be the case that someone else sees how many people care about people like Ross, Bitcoin, etc and move us in a better direction politically down the road. Humans have a hard time appreciating how little decisions today can matter decades from now.

Yielding to politicians with absolutely no pushback isn't going to help things more than voting even if you don't see the impact right now. Sometimes just being a wrench in a gear is enough to change history for the better.

You are responsible for politics whether or not you participate, so you might as well participate strategically.
The thing that most interests me about nostr:nprofile1qqsgydql3q4ka27d9wnlrmus4tvkrnc8ftc4h8h5fgyln54gl0a7dgspzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgqg5waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxgctdw4eju6t0qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnddaehgu3wwp6kyfehcpn building a Nostr client (as a thought experiment, I'm not saying he is) is that it's unlikely to be a toy like so many are. There's some great work going on for sure, but most of it feels like someone's toy that's okay to break and be in a constant state of beta or worse.

I often find myself craving a mature client that just works and doesn't shove something new in my face every week that I have to figure out and adjust to just in time for it to happen again. I'm excited about Damus coming to Android (I have no idea if it's closer to my ideal client or not).

I don't need "feature" after feature packed on top when the basic things still have bugs.

Everyone has different values. I just don't value what the major clients seem to be aiming for (I can't really tell what that is yet, and maybe that's good for them). Jack has proven already that he can build a reliable and familiar UX. I can't think of a more qualified person in the Nostr space right now. His experience and wisdom has to be overwhelming.

Peace.
 I’m voting for Donald Trump.

When Ross is released from prison and stands on stage at the bit...
Yeah, I've figured that it's about the best I can hope to get out of the election. Freeing Ross would be the most I've gotten out of any election up this point in my short 31 years.

It's just fucking sad that this is the state of our politics and justice system. Quite pathetic really.

And if Kamala cared about even 1% of the shit the left cares about she would have already freed him while wearing a Satoshi shirt. At least orange man went to a Bitcoin conference to patronize us lol
Rather, what the left claims to care about.
If it must be a binary issue, I usually ask myself who I'd rather rather my family be captured by. That always helps me pick a side if nothing else will.

I'm an atheist, but I'd pick the Jews over any militant Muslim group. They're both retarded, but I'd rather live in Israel.
I'm not going to back down from people professing their hopelessness from the back row, and neither should you, nostr:nprofile1qqsp4lsvwn3aw7zwh2f6tcl6249xa6cpj2x3yuu6azaysvncdqywxmgprpmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuumwdae8gtnnda3kjctvq9n8wumn8ghj7enfd36x2u3wdehhxarj9emkjmn99ah8qatzx9e8gmr3vdsnsu3kv96hjcthx4hr26pnds6ngv3jv3kngumj0y6kg7nxv4jngd3exen8zefcwvm8zem4v34hxdmydf6xvuelvfex7ctyvdshxapaw3e82egpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejs5mzk3a.

There is no shame in voting for what you think is the least shitty option. Making the best of an awful situation, even when you know the odds are stacked against you, is exactly what being American means. Some of the people in your comments would have yielded to the Brits on "principle."

Just sitting in the corner pouting while politicians run wild definitely isn't going to change anything either. Fuckem. At least we will have tried to correct at least one wrong.

I suspect bot and other automation technologies will virtually end some of the degenerate and largely fruitless things happening in human economies.

For example, what will be the point of financial trading once most of it is done by bots that are so optimized that almost no trades are being made? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see the value in traders. It just seems like a useless grift to me.
Perhaps, but they are competing against 25-30% humans who aren't as optimal probably, which makes it profitable still (and the bot technologies are still improving).

I don't see the point as it's closer to 100% bots, which is the incentive obviously. You'd eventually end up with bots so good that the gains and losses are a lot closer to zero (less profitable).

I think the long term result is the end of such things, and the beginning of actual prosperity IF we fix the money. Just speculation, but I think the average human lifespan would already be 200 years if Bitcoin had existed when the Federal Reserve was created. I can imagine 100-200 years from now looking wildly different. Financial trading will probably seem retarded.
I'm definitely not taking financial advice from a company with Fool in its name. It seems to be an accurate name though.

But who uses it? That's always the problem with messengers. Getting people onto Signal is hard enough. I'm not totally sure how to even say that name. It seems niche and that's fine, but WhatsApp has a network effect, and Signal is so easy that normies don't have to think about it. Frankly, I've largely given up on trying to convert people, especially after the Signal SMS rug pull on Android. Of course, I'm in the US where SMS still dominates, so it was easier to convince most of the people I know to use it as default app (most of them have uninstalled and went back to SMS).

I have like six friends on Signal (one is my wife) and it took a lot of work to get that many. Lol The messenger things feels hopeless to me. We need an industry standard that works seamlessly across platforms.

/end rant that is hardly relevant to your post
I do agree with the corporation point. My primary issue with Signal is that it isn't at all simple to self-host even, and if you do, you're essentially disconnected from everyone who uses Signal. It would be cool if they had a way to add someone's self-hosted server when adding a person in Signal. So the app would connect to that instance with that person. But then you do have the domain issue and all that. Maybe a bunch of different apps for different cases is the best scenario we will ever have.
I will definitely look into both though and see if I can get some Nostr peeps to use it with me. Silos like that probably is the future anyway, unfortunately. It's the only way I can see to keep things decentralized.
They say developers are an oversaturated profession. But the developers are retarded.
Many are. However, there is a seemingly small number of engineers (I consider them different than developers) who still care about computer science and making actually good software.

Seemingly very small. They've probably mostly retired.
I'm going to publicly flog myself for the betterment of humanity (probably mostly men if we are honest).

I decided to clean under my Yeti lid gasket for probably the first time ever. It wasn't as bad as I expected. The inside of the cup used to be a dark 🤎 which I swore to some ladies at work was "patina." (They didn't buy it) It wasn't. My dishwasher just baked on coffee and tea for years. It's silver again after some scrubbing.

I then had the idea to remove the handle accessory on the cup for the first time in about 6 years. My god. To call me an animal would be offensive to animals. I'm a monster.

I am ashamed. Don't be like me.

I have a dream of an educational institution for those who want to explore anything and question everything.

I know that sounds radical today, but I feel that's the true purpose of education. The dominant philosophy of academia today (in my experience) seems to be that the student is supposed to accept at face value anything presented to him.

There is no time for questioning the underlying assumptions or statements of the curriculum. Things are as they are and that is that!

Read this 1300 page textbook and let me know if you have any questions so I can tell you to read pages 100-156 again.

Now give us 50-100k+ and shut the fuck up.

Trust the science!

You are wrong because you don't have _insert degree_.

You can't say that here!
********************************************

Interestingly, I used to think I would hate to be a teacher; I would in schools as they are today.

But I am deeply excited by the idea of teaching when I experiment in my mind with what a proper institution of exploration looks like for me. I can actually picture myself engaging with young (or older) minds and loving the process of education.

Pretty much everything touched by government and the fiat system is destroyed, including the passion of those within the affected systems.

Looking back, my state education after about the half way point (grade 6) was a total waste of my time. In fact, I think I became an adult worse off than I would have been if I had spent half the amount of time studying what I wanted to at the time, and the other half just being a kid or working a job when I was old enough.

Sitting in a hard plastic chair for nearly 8 hours per day, 5 days per week (with work to do on the weekends) felt more like prison than education.

Peace.

To be fair, they did give us five minutes between classes to use the bathroom and rush to the next class, with a 30 minute meal break that included the time it took to get your food and find a place to eat it. No food or drinks in most classes. Thank god for the 5 minutes between classes (if you weren't late - punishment!)

Agreed. That common framework for me was the first half that I mentioned (US school). I was already reading and comprehending at a college level by then and could learn anything I wanted. I obviously don't speak for everyone. Just using examples that applied to me.
I have considered exploring a digital version built on Nostr. It's quite a task though. Certainly one that would require many minds coming together.
I'm thinking more of a hands on approach than something like Khan, Udemy, etc, but I agree.

Similar to physically going to a class except it's virtual. Synchronous I think is the term. It wouldn't be totally on Nostr, but parts would be. More would be over time I'm sure.

Don’t listen to clowns. If you want a house for your kids to grow up in and have fond memories,...
To be fair, he did say 'need.' I think his point is that most people can have the use of things without the headaches of owning them. That obviously doesn't apply if your value is to keep the same house for your entire life (or while your children grow up). Owning it would be the surest way of achieving that want.

But I do agree with your sentiment. I hate it when people tell me I shouldn't spend my Bitcoin. Fuck you. The whole point of money is to express my values. Otherwise, what are we here for?
Rather, that I shouldn't spend my Bitcoin to buy X.
 Every account switcher sucks.

Is the Gmail app the best way to handle multiple accounts?

They...
Making such a thing easy would be suboptimal for me because of my reasons for having a separate account. That's my point. A good middle-ground would be to just have account switcher settings. I say 'just' without understanding the complexity of doing such a thing.
So that is a problem for you but the whole point for me. I can see something like a long press that has a popup for which account you want to boost for or whatever, but I'd prefer to have that as an option that can be disabled.
No. I can tell that I'm entering addresses in, but for what purpose?
