Pres. Bukele seems to believe that representative government is failing. I think he wants to be a king or some such. And I think he would be a good one. The representative government in US is a mess, but we have no worthy king candidates, fools only.
For me I think it's the idea that more can be possible in sci-fi & fantasy than in the mundane world. Explore a floating castle in the sky, fight with high-tech gizmos, ride a dragon, or whatever else.
At this stage in my lit journey, I prize good writing, which can be difficult to find. I'm currently slogging thru Wheel of Time, which has an interesting plot, but the editor needed to take a stronger hand in helping Jordan with his style. An exemplary set is Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles, but, alas, it STILL isn't done.
One thing I identify as good writing is a character who can make you laugh or cry. A book that can create emotion is a win for me. When Samwise says, "I can't carry the ring for you, but I can carry you," that's a line that stays with a generation of readers. Eragon's unrequited love of Arya seemed well done to me. Name of the Wind is absolutely chock full of emtional encounters with the main character as he makes friends and enemies.
Yes my wife and I enjoy these in the cold season. Refer to the book "Outlive" for a review of sauna research. If memory serves, a 20-min sauna at 165 F several times a week produces markedly improved longevity. But as you know, grip strength is one of the best indicators of longevity. The book lists numerous beneficial practices and tests. But yeah cold plunges and sauna are great. Oh I forgot to mention, it appears research is showing the majority benefit of cold can be achieved at temp of 65F. So you may not need the ice after all. 65 can feel pretty good after being in it for about 30 seconds.
Alternative idea: European leaders believe their populations need motivation to reengage in a war w/the Middle East. (I think that would have been a very hard sell to go back.) Get them good and pissed off at these refugees, and they'll sign up to take the war abroad. Keep that war machine running and boost GDP.
"We think it was Russia," say Western media outlets. It surely couldn't have anything to do with the waves of new immigrants who are burning your flags, could it? Of all the things Russia could do, they're going to mess with your rail system? Please
Not sure if you saw today's market news, but there was a fair bit of red. While the SPX, QQQ, and ETH/USD are DOWN 0.5%, 1.1%, and 5% respectively, BTC/USD is UP 0.5% from opening price. Even gold is down 1.4% today. That tells me there's lots of BTC buying demand at this price level. While BTC ranged as low as $63.5K today, it was bought back up to give us a green candle 😃 I am tentatively expecting continued moves upward 💹. Buyers are going to require a bigger scare than today's Yen/USD turmoil to knock us back below $63.5K. Now if my beloved miners will only realize it's time for a bullish move 🙏 https://m.primal.net/JeOM.png
That book was anything but easy for us. Good luck, LOL. My wife moved on to the Charlotte Mason method, and I said OK. We basically just read a bunch of good books to the kids. One day they'll catch on. If not, there's a McDonald's hat waiting 😅
Saylor's main point is that we need true digital scarcity. Bitcoin sloved that already. We need to be extremely cautious about making so-called improvements on L1.
Last night my sister was cutting her daughter's hair. She thought it was so pleasing to hear the snip snip sound and feel the blades as they cut through each bit of hair as she made things more even. However, as she went along making perfections here, trimming there, she hardly realized before it was too late that her daughter's hair was no longer long and beautiful but too short and uncomplementary to the girl's aesthetic! Her continued improvements actually led to failure.
Don't do this to the world's only digital scarcity. I believe the saying goes, "Perfection is the enemy of the good."
this looks awesome. Something tells me any attacks on coinjoin will only force it to evolve, becoming more decentralized, stronger, and dare I say, cheaper🙏?
This was an excellent rip as always; however, this guest has me seriously concerned that Bitcoiners will kill the golden goose.
Pls stop screwing around with our shot at superior money. Forget privacy enhancements or making it faster. We already have that in Lightning & Liquid. Correcting this bug seems very important to me.
This is a CBS poll, and it includes sampling error. Expect different results from a different audience. These types of polls are pretty much worthless.
We don't know where the republicans lived, their ages, or ither demographics. How many republicans responded vs dems? What kinds of ppl were likely to respond to this survey? What are their biases? On and on....
On one hand, better tech will make self-custody easier, somehow mitigating key loss. Also, I think Fedi styled custody will be important for saving on fees. Base layer custody will probly not be the norm, IMHO. Those who HODL >1 or 2 BTC today will have some important decisions to make: serve as a bank, hold deep storage, UTXO management. Over all, I think fees could make self-custody difficult for the average person who wants +/- $30K of BTC in his portfolio.
We will probably see some kind of scaling according to net worth of BTC (least to greatest wealth): Lightning, Liquid, Fedi (or some such), ETF, broker custody, self-custody.
Liquid isn't very popular now, but I see a lot of potential in it.
Yup. I ditched mine a year ago.
For those who don't know...Coldcard + Sparrow FTW
After you make that move, improve upon it via:
- Umbrel node (on Raz Pi)
- Bitcoin node on umbrel
- Electrum server on umbrel
- Sparrow gets data from Electrum server
Now you can access the blockchain more privately thru your Sparrow wallet.
"Trust does not scale."
💯% Well stated.

Hey Lyn,
I realize MSTR doesn't charge management fees like an ETF will, plus they use leverage that's not marked to market, giving them a potential advantage over ETFs. Nonetheless, I'm concerned that the demand for MSTR will decline upon approval of an ETF bc I believe some people will just want to own the asset and avoid potential complications that may arise from owning a stock that owns the desired asset. What do you expect for MSTR? If you want to cover that in your subscription service, I would be pleased to read about it. Thank you!
100% Bank wires w/in the US are bad enough. Can't imagine SWIFT. I am so ready for banks to be that weird thing we tell our grandkids about, like rotary phones.
Some kind of regular exercise. I mountain bike, and it feels like play rather than work.
Eat real food. Everybody seems to be in agreement on that one here.
I went camping with the fam recently. We were in a cell phone dead zone. No screens for 3 days. No clocks. It's weird not knowing whether it's "lunch time" or not. We just ate as needed. Hiked a ton, swam in the creek. I haven't felt that good in a long time. If anyone is curious about the effects of screens on kids and adults too, check out this book Glow Kids: How Screen Addiction Is Hijacking Our Kids - and How to Break the Trance https://a.co/d/j2DpV7H
Does anybody have research on the effects of electro-magnetic radiation on the body? Some ppl talk about wifi and 5G harming us, but I'm uncertain. Nonetheless I did feel really good on our camping trip. Hard to isolate variables in that case.
So glad you're reading the Kingkiller Chronicles. Rothfuss is a woefully slow writer, but these books are some of my favs. The Audible versions are well narrated. You might also read the Red Rising series by Brown, which is also underway.
What makes a gentle man angry? We all have our lines in the sand. It may be he can endure so much pressure but no more at a point. Or he may have certain moral issues on which he will not bend.
Had a Ledger Nano X for 2 yrs. Really liked it, especially the interface; however the recent scares about a back door led me to swap to Coldcard + Sparrow + Umbrel. Coldcard has lots of interesting features.
Question for the pros: is multisig all it's cracked up to be in regard to safety? It seems like you are creating more vulnerabilities in terms of long-term loss of keys. Where do you store all these keys? In a bank vault? With friends? With a pirate's map? Seems like it's adding ways to make an error. If I die, ensuring my kids get my keys is increasingly hard when using multi-sig. With one key, it seems simpler. Obviously it's a personal choice. Just curious to hear everyone's thoughts. Maybe I've overlooked something.
You can take your seed phrase from an old device and recreate the wallet in a new device when technology advances to the point your old device is difficult to use.
The alternative is giving someone else custody of your assets. If you feel comfortable w/that, then you'll choose to leave it w/your exchange.
But if you want to custody assets yourself, you'll need to sign transactions w/some kind of device. There are tradeoffs.
Lyn, you're enticing us to visit Egypt 😁 That geographical divide reminds me of Turkey. East Turkey can be very conservative, whereas Istanbul and the west is modern and liberal. Then again, I suppose the US is much the same in its coastal vs interior divisions.
Man what I would give for some pirzola! (That's Turkish lamb chops.) Egypt must have some great local foods too.
Yes, and we need to protect L1 from accidental death by programmers' attempts at improvement/expanded capabilities. One of the biggest threats IMHO comes from the Bitcoin community and the human desire to constantly tweak stuff.
Over and over we are seeing valuable journalists and speakers demonetized and pushed to the margins by larger interests, and this is a good thing insofar as it wakes up the plebs and boosts interest in alternative communication hubs, like Nostr.
