🌞 🎶Summer of Suno 🎶 🌞

If you have not heard of Suno.com it is basically Midjourney but for music.
Last week Suno announced that they will be hosting a competition over the summer giving away $1 million in prizes. See their blog post here: https://suno.com/blog/sos
As a homesteader I'm always looking for ways to generate passive income. There are several ways people are using Suno to make money. Some are publishing music and listing it on Spotify, some are starting Youtube music channels, and some are using Tiktok.
I have toyed with the idea of making some homestead music albums. We’ll see if I get around to making that.
What I am excited about is this contest. I created the above song specifically for it. If you could give it a listen, smash that like button, and share it that would be awesome! If any of you have songs you have made on Suno, shoot me a link and I will do that same.
Here are my top 5 tips I’ve learned while using Suno:
1. Use the custom mode.
Custom mode gives you more control over the song allowing you to improve it.
2. Lyrics are the heart of the song – don’t just use the AI generated ones.
If you are not going to write your own, use the Suno AI to come up with the first draft of the lyrics. I have found the Suno model gives better results than Chatgpt or others.
You can have Suno generate lyrics in custom mode by typing what you want the song to be about in the lyrics dialogue box and then hit “generate lyrics.”
Use the AI lyrics as a first draft. Often the AI will write lines that don’t really fit just to make sure they rhyme.
Go through line by line and rewrite as necessary. If you want some help on how to improve the lyrics, I have had good results working with the Claude-3-Haiku model (https://poe.com/Claude-3-Haiku).
3. Don’t expect the first couple songs to be very good.
V3.5 of the Suno model does a good job, but you should expect to iterate several times until you find the sound you are looking for.
4. Use the extend function in custom mode.
If there is a part of the song you don’t like or the AI does something silly (like sing the 2nd verse twice) you can use “extend” to have it generate the song again from any point in the song.
5. You can use the extend function to add lyrics to an instrumental.
I have done this on a few of the songs I have made. I find a melody I like, come up with some lyrics that fit, and then extend the song after the first melody phrase has played. I did that process with this song and think it turned out great. (https://suno.com/song/84a4e2f7-2847-4845-ab23-19fbf5cd3f4e)

I have heard that 8 days is the recommended maximum for saving them for incubating. That is stored at room temperature. I'm sure you can go longer but the hatch rate starts to drop off.
What tip I found, that I think helped with my last batch was to match sure you rotate/move the eggs twice a day while storing them before incubation. I did this by placing the eggs in a carton and then elevating once side of the carton and alternating the elevated side every 12 hours. The idea is you don't want to give the yolk a chance to stick to the shell.
I've seen mods of those little kid play cars where they replace the motor with an electric drill. The instructions specifically state to leave the drill in the lower slower gear because high is way too fast 😂
The solar panels are here!

Has anyone built a DIY ground mount solar array? I am currently researching ideas for framing one up.
In full transparency I run Tailscale in parallel with Umbrel(ie outside of Umbrel but on the same machine) so I can have access to the command line functions.
The nostr relay is pretty much plug and play. I found that it works better to have it track your npub from other relays rather than putting it in your clients. There is a button on the top right with a globe, click that and you can put in your npub.
Nextcloud. It has allowed me to bring all my files together in a unified location that is under my control. No more fiddling with external hard drives.
I definitely don't keep a large balance on the bitcoin/lighting node, just in case. But since the rest of the server isn't accessible to the public web it is pretty secure.
I have been running @umbrel for a couple years now and it has dramatically changed my digital landscape. Not only does it make it easy to run your own bitcoin node, but I've also slowly been dropping centralized apps with self-hosted solutions. Even though I don't run everything through Umbrel OS it has opened me to the world of self-hosting.

I started on a raspi but quickly upgraded to a small frame PC that I picked up used for cheap.
The services I find useful are: Tailscale, which gives me access to the server anywhere; Nextcloud for file storage, but also the music extension let's me take my playlists with me wherever; Nostr Relay backs up my Nostr activity automatically; Invidious for YouTube without ads or trackers; Audiobook shelf for podcasts and audio books; Jellyfin for movies and shows.
I actually run several other services on the same machine, just not through Umbrel. Tailscale, Pi-hole, Photoprism, Trillium Notes, Portainer, and recently Duplicati for back-ups. Some of these are available through Umbrel but I wanted more control over the services (eg Tailscale) or wanted to support the devs (eg Photoprism).
Eye swollen shut? Just had this happen. Lost two roos and one is on the mend. My experienced chicken farmer neighbor told me it was a respiratory infection. It would be wise to isolate that one from the others as a precaution.
This is the root of Pokeweed (Pyhtolacca americana) which my neighbor told me was poisonous. I'l have a lot of it and was worried about the kids maybe eating some of the berries. I was ready to wage war on it.
Then I learned that is a valued medicinal plant with all sorts of uses.
Now I'm going to be making some tinctures and salves with it. I also gathered several pounds of seeds from it.
To loosely quote Emerson: A weed is just a plant whose virtues have not been discovered yet.

Finally it is here! In case you haven't been following Steven Williams, he has been developing a building system with sytrofoam and aircrete to make affordable structures that divert waste from hitting the landfill.
I've been waiting for the release of their online course as I couldn't afford to go to the in person workshop and really want to try this out. I plan on building myself a barn with this stuff and eventually a guest house.
They are offering the course at almost 50% off for November. Check out the announcement here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHbQuHsFXQ4
If you want to help a brother out you can sign up for the course with this link: https://abundance.build/?ref=LeafhoITj5RcaC

About 2 weeks ago I developed this sores on my tongue. I first I thought it was a canker sore, but it just kept getting worse and after some research I found out it was oral thrush. It is painful, pray you never experience it.
This led me down a rabbit hole of Candida. Most medical sources will tell you that it is benignly hanging out in your body most of the time not causing and trouble, but that is not true. Among other things it enables the bacteria, p gingivalis (you know the one that causes cavities), to take hold on your teeth.
My mouth is feeling better, but not back to 100%. I've been avoiding sugars and flour, taking turmeric and boron.
Now I'm declaring full out war on candida and am on day 2 of my first candida cleanse. We'll see how this goes.
