Just convinced someone to use @OCEAN and helped them set it up (took 5 minutes) and in that discussion, someone else decided to buy an ASIC specifically because of Ocean. Yeah this pool is gonna change things. cc @Luke Dashjr @jack (is Mechanic or Jason on Nostr?)
What makes ocean special compared to say Braiins pool? Just the direct payouts?
I love Braiins, don’t get me wrong. The key difference with Braiins is transparency and accuracy. There’s no duration periods, wasted work, scoring hashrate, custodial parties, anything like that. It’s also a different pay structure completely. Braiins is FPPS where Ocean is TIDES (which is new). It closely resembles PPLNS if anything.
I’m just now reading up on FPPS and it does not sound like the Braiins reward system since you only get your share of rewards when a block is actually discovered… are you referring to this post where someone is suggesting they are moving towards FPPS or am I missing something? https://stacker.news/items/327507 Regardless I need to read up more on TIDES. Thanks!
This comment was also an interesting read that turns into a bit of a rant 😂 https://stacker.news/items/327507

So you're saying I can just buy an S9 and be up and rolling in 5 minutes? Here's one close by me I could nab, would this work? https://image.nostr.build/70ecec723e6b400ba83b195494d47cbcfc9f92aa34f425b340b8f78ba4b21d30.jpg
Absolutely. However, that does not look like an S9 or even an S9k as listed. Looks like a T9+ (only 10 TH/s), which I wouldn’t spend $150 on if it was fully hashing, but I bet it’s not. Also looks like it’s missing its top which is also not a good look. I wouldn’t buy that miner if I were you, unless you could knock it down to maybe $50 and that’s generous.
seems like a tweaker trying to scam a buck, I'd rather buy a space heater from CryptoCloaks, anyway.
CryptoCloaks is the shit. And I’ll say their space heater kit is a good value.
