People always had this freedom which you of course know, you can put anything in your metadata and sign it. Not having every possible names field in the repo isn't blocking anyone's freedom.
my brother sent his DNA to one of those stupid ancestry things, sigh
I wish people understood they share DNA with whole family so it's not exactly theirs to give out
I am truly shocked by how much money traders lose both long and short off the smallest price moves.
Literally tens of millions lost every little swing, minute by minute, absolutely incredible

Make the spec allow users to define their own fields instead of attempting to standardize them
https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/1592#issuecomment-2488744571
We have the minimum amount of fields, like display name, image, lightning addr, bio, then just display things the user wants like pronouns or location or age or whatever
This list would just get massive otherwise and likely have so much contention, and still have interoperability issues when some clients do something with a field and others don't
I have to add more CPU cores to nostr:nprofile1qqspcm9j9xtt42lfyx7dghytvgfm9k4sjmuguja9v7x585v45xrg25gpz4mhxue69uhhwmm59eaxzcm0daejucm0d5hs7pk2s3 he's gonna be busy today

Gm,
Merging pronouns into our protocol spec as a joke is demonstrating that maybe we aren't serious people
Perhaps next we should add a field for number of abortions or favorite bible passages?
Keep politics and ideology out of the protocol spec, anyone is free to add any field to their bios already, it was designed like this on purpose
I'm gonna open a PR to remove this today, we should have a proper discussion about it on GitHub without nostr:nprofile1qqs8d3c64cayj8canmky0jap0c3fekjpzwsthdhx4cthd4my8c5u47spzfmhxue69uhhqatjwpkx2urpvuhx2ucpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduq3vamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwdehhxtnnda3kjctvll3q2p yolo merging things unilaterally
Don't conflate protocol spec with free speech. Anyone can add anything they want to profile metadata today, and nobody has a problem with it.
There are hundreds of fields we *could* add into the spec, pronouns are probably middle of the pack for demand, it doesn't exist in any clients, but you unilaterally merged it without any discussion and input from anyone.
Anyway, nostr:nprofile1qqsqgc0uhmxycvm5gwvn944c7yfxnnxm0nyh8tt62zhrvtd3xkj8fhgprdmhxue69uhkwmr9v9ek7mnpw3hhytnyv4mz7un9d3shjqgcwaehxw309ahx7umywf5hvefwv9c8qtmjv4kxz7gpzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumt0wd68ytnsw43z7s3al0v made a very good PR that allows users to use any fields they want without standardizing them directly into the spec, we would love to get your input on it.
Of course anyone is free to put pronouns in their bio. But to make it a named field is elevating it's importance as if it is truly global instead of a fringe idea to a small group of English speaking leftists. I think it's a mistake, politics aside.

Vast majority of this is people who are terminally ill cancer patients who would suffer a brutal death. The news reports the crazy outliers to make it seem much more dystopian than it is.
Had a family member who faced this decision and it was much more humane than what cancer had in store for them.

I don't think so, for all people know you just convert everything to fiat, different than being an "enthusiast" who goes to meetups and might be an OG whale
I think lightning and nostr proved a very important concept that may have gone overlooked.
Using completely open protocols and freedom incentives, you all donated over 3.5m sats to me with one ask. This is actually a serious amount of money. No VCs, no boards, no strings. And we are still very small.
I hope this signals to other developers to take a chance and build on these protocols. The community highly values this kind of work.
I am extremely humbled by the outpouring of support, it did make me a bit emotional if I'm being honest. It's highly motivating to keep building, and it basically proves that nostr and lightning is definitely gonna make it.
Thank you all again so much π₯Ίπ₯Ίπ«π«ππ
