I still can't use that algo relay thing lol. nostr:nprofile1qqsw9n8heusyq0el9f99tveg7r0rhcu9tznatuekxt764m78ymqu36cpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuat50phjummwv5hszymhwden5te0wahhgtn4w3ux7tn0dejj7qg4waehxw309an8yetwwvh82arcduhx7mn99uuwx66a Starting to take this personally lolol. Do you reckon #primal could have it as a drop down menu option on their sidebar? Or something else, every time I look at primal I am confronted with the worst of Nostr. At least have an option to remove it? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ really puts me off primal, which is a shame cos it's kinda slick to use.
ah, got it to work in nostrudel.
Still gives me a lot of primal trending slop tho, I suppose I'm looking for an algo that doesn't show me things everyone/most people have liked and reposted already.
This was actually the first post to use the #gothstr hashtag:)

Lol yes, this is hashtag mining lol
Unfortunately everyone adding the str suffix doesn't really help when new people search for stuff. But it's fun to be the first person, maybe:)
I have looked up hashtags of stuff (can't remember what they are now) and seen posts from months ago. Those users tend to have stopped posting (or perhaps moved to other npubs). But yeah, it seems like there's people who want to talk about other stuff, aren't finding any/much engagement, and potentially leave for good. Or they give up and join the chorus of bitcointwitter sloganeering.
A forum/topic focused client may help with this. Although I suspect it may be a similar problem maybe?
There was a scenario of BYOF. When Matt Taibbi joined he brought a load of people. They stayed for a bit, got bored and presumably returned to twitter.

a lot of people here want bitcointwitter2, and they have it. The rest of us have to suffer through it lolol. Or, ironically, you can actually just use twitter and see far less or no bitcoin chatter. I'm strictly non-nostr-only, for the sake of sanity.
I also suspect most people aren't nostr-only cos they regurgitate bitcointwitter talking points and 'memes'. I haven't even looked at bitcointwiter but I know it is chockablock with incredibly unfunny crypto anarchist 'memes'.
We are just an offshoot of bt. Sad, innit.
Why is the nostr retention rate so bad??
The mystery remains unsolved.
I think the 'people use twitter because they're addicted' can be a bit disingenuous, people on twitter also have meaningful interactions with people, there are communities there etc etc... (you know the things nostr aspires to). I'm not saying that the addiction / ragebait thing doesn't also exist, but that's not the whole picture.
Hmm, it's more that the there are these mechanisms that fill the void of discovery. The mechanisms assume you have come from and want bitcointwitter. Clients recommend bitcointwitter people, people who post in that style, primal trending sidebar does the same. Follows are funnelled into these posters and posts with lots of likes appear as 'trending'.
Replying or appealing to the tastes of these people is sometimes the only possibility of interaction smaller accounts have. The rent you pay to post can be seen as posting popular bitcointwitter slogans. Emulating bitcointwitter is rewarded in engagement and zaps.
This is arguably worse than an algorithm lol. In terms of an obstacle to nostr's growth. (The most common complaint about nostr is that it's a bitcointwitter slogan chatroom).
The most used clients are microblogging types, following accounts instead of topics. There are barely any topics to follow (besides bitcointwitter talking points, although Meshtastic and Permaculture are promising).
Etc etc
It's a major problem, not really been solved. Retention is low and the only reliable place to recruit from is bitcointwitter. No one outside of bitcointwitter wants bitcointwitter as a social media (even some of bitcointwitter want more variety, which they find on wider twitter, not here).

No Meshtastic is a type of radio technology thing, permaculture is like gardening and homesteading type thing, content/ smaller communities here.
#meshtastic
#permaculture

It's one of a very very few attempts at topic-follow rather than personality/npub follow. There was another WIP client which was heavily focused on forum-style, but forgotten the name.
Things like this could help attract and keep people.
Bitcoin posts and the general bitcointwitter chatroom posts wouldn't show up in unrelated topic forums, hopefully lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Wonder how 58kgang is doing? Have you seen that saylor interview? Oh boy, what a jerk! I'm a crypto anarchist myself, uptober is in full swing. Anyone missing the crab market? Not me! Don't forget to fuck the fed too.
Might join Reddit.

I actually just look at 'following' and chronological feed, so don't really have too much / any interaction with algo. Afaik.
I've just curated a good, varied feed there
You seen this nostr:nprofile1qqsdrvgcccdslj4v8k0gh6h63wu6vjwvaysh26506lppe2tmfxzm8rgpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqz8rhwden5te0wfjkccte9e3x2arp9enx7em509cx2tnrdakszrthwden5te0dehhxtnvdakqc9smg2 ?
I will see what is available. I think there are 4 or 5 volumes and a complication type version too. Would you recommend any in particular? I assume it doesn't matter too much to read in order of volumes
I'm writing to Craigslist HQ to see if they can let me log in with Alby 😤😤 bye

As well as nostr being mega-quiet. I have noticed my twitter feed is a lot slower. Is this a seasonal thing? Never really noticed that before tho.
Or is social media fading out of use and favour. Probably would be a very long and slow fade out of existence. Feels long overdue tbh, but people will log in and lurk still, this becomes less frequent. The Big Follower accounts are less incentivised with less engagement and monetisation/earnings. They eventually stop too.
I've seen it a bit on Instagram, it used to be really active with Whatever kind of posts Now it's more that people will post only to promote their creative projects or more personal landmark occasions (birthdays, births, marriages etc), or to post their activist post rent (the moral rent you pay to subsidise your posts promoting your creative work).
But with no -killer app, no one is fleeing to anything. Perhaps it's more private messenger chat groups, and invite-only social groups. Which would make it more difficult to see where people have fled(?)
I'm still bullish on the fidgetspinner revival as the substitute for the killerapp that doesn't exist.
The Instagram feed smells the most of desperation and death throes. It's a smattering of people I follow but predominantly 'viral' slop from accounts that I don't even follow.

It has felt very quiet here and quieter on twitter for a bit of time now.
nostr:nevent1qqsqq4vrkj3j6n00qpcl3udum69uh0nvqdyafycrn2x6tnulvfut68qprdmhxue69uhhg6r9vehhyetnwshxummnw3erztnrdakj7q3ql5sga6xg72phsz5422ykujprejwud075ggrr3z2hwyrfgr7eylqsxpqqqqqqzj8zjr3
feels like there's also a fair amount of regular posters who have stopped being regular, and the irregular posters have stopped altogether. But also I'm looking at nostr less, and mostly on uk-time nostr, which may make it even quieter for me.
It's possible it could be good for nostr in the longterm, better to have a slow and quiet feed for the refresh it may need? out of the bitcointwitter2 reputation. Who knows
Yes, nostr microblogging has always been the waiting room and recruitment funnel for betatesters from bitcointwitter to test Other Stuff. We're twiddling our canary thumbs waiting.
