Super helpful. I learned a lot.
There’s zero justice in murdering thousands of women and children. Should have never happened. ...
If anyone commited murder against them, it was their own government.

Self-defense is not murder.

There's nothing I love more than having a dinosaur like John Kerry tell me that I shouldn't be able to make up my own mind on what is and isn't true or relevant to me.

I don't need CIA or government controlled entities controlling the information I see.

Fuck John Kerry. Long live #Nostr.

All our differences aside, this thing is worth protecting.
I trade some of my KYC Bitcoin to someone who isn't KYC'ed. Cool. They now have KYC free Bitcoin.

What happens if they fund terrorists or something with it?

How do I prove I wasn't actually the one who sent it when the KYC trail ends at me?
Do mixers and things like that actually resolve this issue or do they simply make someone else look like me and make me look like someone else? If so, that isn't really any better.

If that is the case, the best anyone can hope for is that analytics software will at some point be considered inadmissible in court. Otherwise, I can't see how a lot of people aren't fucked.

Please share information if you know that I am missing something here.

I've seen some good points from Monero supporters, but going in and out of these types of systems has data leak concerns too.

That's pretty fucking ridiculous if it came from the factory that way. Lol
I can only imagine that the ground wire would somehow be energized to be getting shocked from touching metal on the car. Wouldn't GFCI stop this if it was his outlet?

Assuming it's modern and not some redneck shit lol
Either way, I would have thought that a car that's basically just a computer with wheels would be able to safely deal with bad charging sources.
There could be a physical connection that doesn't connect if something doesn't seem right with the power connection. There would need to be something between the charging port and rest of the vehicle. I'm not saying their computers can do that. It was mostly a theoretical joke. But it probably isn't a bad idea to confirm that a power source is good before allowing it to connect to something that costs as much as a vehicle. I realize you can't control what people touch a vehicle with, but the charging port is an access point that seems theoretically possible for a computer or sensor to monitor. My knowledge here is limited, but it seems that an improperly wired charging source would look weird to a computer monitoring the vehicle charging port and the current flowing through it. I'm imagining something similar in theory to what the brick on my phone and laptop does. It doesn't just allow whatever the hell I plug it into to dictate what gets to my device as far as I know.
I'm aware that not every problem can be solved easily, but something like this seems like an issue to solve if you want people to plug their vehicles into power sources all over the place that may or may not be faulty. I don't think it's reasonable to have to worry about getting shocked just by charging your vehicle, especially when the expectation is that people will be plugging them into sources they have no control over.
Press the zap button more often.
I would remove the emoji button if you made it an option. I use zaps as a 'like' button anyway. Boost and zap is all I need.
I didn't say anything about your use of them did I? I said I would remove them in my settings. I don't use them. I have no issue with other people using them. They are just a useless distraction in my UI.

 I'm calling it now:

Trump will fire Gensler and replace him with someone worse.

There really are no "good" options for such a role since the role itself is so evil. The best you can rationally hope for is someone who does nothing, and the government won't tolerate such a person.

I'm afraid we will want Gensler back. He hasn't been all that bad considering how awful the entire institution is.

People are cheering for his removal as if the position and institution will go away with him; they won't. They'll simply be filled with someone else.

And be honest with yourself. What kind of people do you think actually want roles like that? It's not like there's a large pool of good people eager to take the job. They're mostly varying degrees of awful, and even if they aren't, they won't be able to do much good inside such an evil box.

What would make your life better?
Bitcoin being treated as a currency without capital gains taxes. I hate having to keep track of it and it makes actually using Bitcoin quite a nightmare.
Probably isn't good enough when getting thrown into a cage is a potential outcome.

Paying the capital gains tax itself isn't my main issue. My main issue is with tracking every little transaction (buy and spend). It's fucking tedious. I could let software do it probably but that opens up a whole new privacy concern when it's already bad enough.
How do they ever know? Audits. I am not interested in breaking the law and finding out how they know at trial before being thrown into a cage. Especially for capital gains of all things. The tracking is just annoying, but I'm not risking prison for this.
Using AI tools to improve my writing has helped me write better without AI. This counters what some people claim will happen with the use of AI. I am not becoming dependent. I am becoming better. Amusingly, I need AI less the more I use it (in this context).
Question for the Married People or Long Term Relationship Folks,

First, really look at your spou...
There is no "the one." My values have changed over time, and what I value in my spouse now isn't the same as when we were 20. If she hadn't grown with me, she wouldn't be "the one" anymore (which entirely dispells the soulmate ideal). We would have instead grown apart (and I did with someone I once thought was who I would die with). The universe doesn't care about you and doesn't have a particular person chosen for you. People in fact do change and not always for the better. You may find "the one" and end up divorced in 20 years. I think this sort of thinking comes from Disney princess type movies that mystify love and connection.

Your values should determine who is right for you and who isn't. Those values will likely change over time and sometimes the people in your life will too. My wife, up to this point, has grown in the same direction with me, so we remain together. She could go in a completely different direction ten years from now. Or I could. I hope not, but that's reality.
They think voting for Trump is going to make a material difference in their life 😂 😂

Cute.
Voting doesn't solve every problem but just standing idly by and not even trying to steer the political environment (if only in a less bad direction) is a great way to get fucked harder.

Politics do matter greatly, even if the options are all shit by your own standards.
No, as in you suffer the consequences of the increasingly evil people you allow to slide into power uncontested.

Resistance within the system is more important than having a politician in office you feel fully represents you; that will probably never happen for anyone.

Hopelessness and non-participation is the surest way to end up living in the worst political environment imaginable, which definitely is not what you live in now.
You can also strategically vote. I'm in the US, so for me that means voting in such a way that gridlock is encouraged. It's often much better to have a government that does little than one that does much, even if you happen to agree with it for the moment. There is almost always a candidate that is strategically better in my experience, even if I hate them.

Using the US as an example, that could be Kamala, Trump, or someone else on the ballot depending upon what your desired strategy is.

I agree that Trump is definitely not going to right the ship though. He may sink it slower, but some may want it to sink quicker.

Thinking and participating is better than doing nothing at all. Resistance of any sort is always better than none.
I don't think participation is always going to lead to me getting my way. It can't. I vote every election and still voice my disgust for the political environment. My point is that I'm at least throwing a wrench in whenever and wherever I can instead of just letting the lowest common denominator rule without resistance of any kind. I've accepted that I'm most likely just going to be a very small wrench, a spec of sand really, in the gears of the machine. But enough grains of sand can really start locking shit up, even if the machine doesn't fully stop.

More people not voting will only make it easier for an ever smaller group of people to have total control. I'd rather keep government fighting than have that.
 I will.
There is nothing explicitly preventing more than two parties from existing in the US (they do).

The problem is that people tend to become tribal because of collectivist philosophy (most don't even know they're afflicted with the disease, which makes it even more lethal).

Having more parties isn't really going to fix anything if people are still tribalists.

In fact, parties wouldn't matter all that much in a rational society. Many of the US Founders were actually against the concept of parties because they feared what the collectivism and tribalism would lead to (they were right).

Having more of the cancer doesn't seem like a good solution to me. You'll still be ruled by gang warfare. There will just be more smaller gangs. So maybe tyrannical rule by 31% instead of 51%. That isn't much of an improvement.
Tribalism also tends to centralize anyway, just as it did to give us the two major parties we have now.

The incentive will always be for the smaller gangs to consolidate to gain more power. Four will just become two again once people realize that winning on the big issues is more important than losing for the minor differences between a given set of smaller gangs. Purity tests return, as they always do with tribalists, and we are right back to trying to have more gangs to fix the problem.

Parties and collectivism are the actual problems in my opinion.
Besides that, I don't think issues of culture and philosophy can be fixed with politics. Politics is downstream of culture. A sick culture leads to sick politics. We have to fix culture. Politics can't be fixed before that. Any measure like this will just be erroded for this reason. The cancer will always grow again because it was never fully killed. Ayn Rand wrote a lot of good material on this issue.
One of her best points in my opinion is that you also can't escape politics by simply not participating. You'll still suffer the consequences and they will likely be worse if those with principles and virtue yield to those who have no virtues or principles.
I love Rod Serling's work. I am saddened by my discovery that a lot of his work was edited (quite significantly in some cases) by corporate sponsors of the day.

I agree, but a nation's politics is generally a reflection of its culture. One can't have a state and then expect to be completely separated from the deeds of that state. Unfortunately, it is the case that bad culture (mostly collectivism from what I see) leads to even worse states over time that become incredibly difficult for people to change.
That's just absurd. People historically vote for these people. Regimes don't just gain unlimited power without broken cultures that enable them.
They almost never 'take' power. Politicians are given power and you can see many historical examples of this. Many of the worst examples have simply abused power that never should have been given to government by the people in the first place. It was always going to happen and doesn't just pop into existence out of thin air.

That isn't to say that there aren't individuals within these contexts who didn't consent, only that enough of the culture and population did. Otherwise, it never would happen. Hitler wouldn't happen. Mao wouldn't happen. Stalin wouldn't happen. People like that were given too much power because of bad dominant culture/philosophy and abused it.
'Trust the Science' has always been baffling to me. Trust is antithetical to science. 'Verify the Science' is a more appropriate slogan to anyone who actually understands science.
Is BTC really the protection from political upheaval that it feels like it is??
Your assumptions make no sense. They can switch to a metal that almost no one accepts as payment anymore but they can't accept Bitcoin? That just doesn't make sense. Why is the assumption that metals would be what everyone defaults to in a digital world? Your thesis is that suppliers in a global economy will choose to fuck around with metal coins instead of adopting a digital currency that is already being used globally. We already did that once and ended up with fiat. People didn't have Bitcoin as an option.
You'd still need to create a circular economy with metals again anyway. I think the more likely case is that people choosing to deal with archaic metals would be the ones trying to figure out how to swap into Bitcoin to pay their suppliers, not the other way around.
I got an email from nostr:nprofile1qqs9v9et20mnqagtgrnrc5qmzcrgmkt2y3087p23vawqlmyczlhfdcqpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejszxmhwden5te0vejk2ern9ehx7um5wghxyctwvshhq6trwvq3vamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwdehhxarj9e3xzmnyrwt363 saying that some of my data was being deleted automatically.

Why do people think booths at conferences are a good way to “grow nostr”? I don’t think the...
Having it mentioned in podcasts not exclusively dedicated to Nostr is probably more impactful.

"That Elon Musk isn't really defending free speech all that well. Have you heard of Nostr?"

At least that's how I tend to learn about stuff like this. I've never been to a conference.
Actually, I think I first learned of Nostr by using a search engine to look for decentralized alternatives to Twitter. I came across a blog post that had Damus (I don't think they realized the difference between the protocol and client), Mastodon, and Bluesky.

Mastodon was fucking awful.

Nostr was so cool that I didn't even try Bluesky. Although, it did take about a year for Nostr clients to get to a level I could cope with full time.

My guess is that far more people will take this sort of path than the conference one. I'd assume that MOST people who will care at conferences have already bought in. Basically, a Nostr conference. I see value in that, but not some random Nostr booth at a general conference.
I think his point is that we may be able to go ten by ten instead of one by one if marketing efforts are optimized. Sure, we could change the world in twenty years, but I'd rather do it in 5 or 10 if possible. My time on earth is limited. One by one is almost never the optimal solution.
Interestingly, my acid reflux is better or non-existent when I eat mostly fat/protein (animal sources) based meals. I usually have no problems if I eat a half dozen eggs fried in butter and covered in cheese. Add in bread or potatoes and I feel sick again. Actually, I feel quite good after having animal based fats and protein (even though I don't eat meat). I have almost no bloating and feel like I have more energy.

I think the carbs were causing my digestive issues, not the fats like I was told. I'm sure everyone is different, but I'm suspicious that fats are blamed for more things than they probably should be.
Is this actually confirmed or still speculation?
I didn't see the link the first time for some reason.

This is a well-written response to what I think is a pathetic controversy.

Frankly, it seems to be mostly driven by investors and company owners feeling threatened by SeedSigner. Of course, I haven't seen every interaction between those involved, so my impression could be wrong. I don't really see the threat, as SeedSigner is a somewhat niche device that I don't recommend for MOST people I talk to about Bitcoin. I use them and have built them for others for educational purposes.

I've had nothing but wonderful interactions with the SeedSigner project leader, but I'm sure he has communicated negatively with someone. So have I.

Of course SeedSigner could reduce its current attack surface, but that's true of all devices and software I know of. Everything has some tradeoff.

Ultimately, I think security models and related products will improve to the point that average people simply don't have to worry about stuff like this.

In the meantime, I'd prefer that we all work together to mitigate risks and educate newcomers without exposing them to stuff like this. I feel better about this approach than when I participate in drama or see it happening.

How is it any more random than Google Play or the Apple Store if it comes directly from the developer?
Ah. Zap.store is relatively well known in the space at this point, but wasn't to me until recently. I think the idea is to Nostrfy things like Google Play, but I haven't had much time to study it.
