Swan Bitcoin reveals their Bitcoin mining operation, which has been in “stealth mode” up until now. They report they are currently mining with 4.5 EH, and have the equipment on hand to ramp it up to 8 EH. See more details in their full announcement.

Nostr Report turned one today! Exactly one year ago we started the Nostr Report with one goal in mind—To be the human algorithm that brings the best news and updates to the users of Nostr. We set out to capture the many changes and developments rapidly occurring on this new censorship-resistant protocol. The protocol was changing daily, with new features such as zaps, communities, and more being added and standardized in new NIPs. New apps, relays, and “other stuff” projects were also emerging at a rapid pace. We saw influential people like Ed Snowden joining, conferences and meetups being planned, and yet there were no algorithms to help capture and share all of this. That’s where we set out to make a difference.
Since then, we have produced a variety of content to make sure you don’t miss anything important. This includes over 350 daily reports which served to keep everyone up to date with the daily pulse on Nostr. We have appeared weekly on @Plebchain Radio 📻 in more than 40 episodes to deliver a roundup of each week’s Nostr news. We’ve written articles and welcomed guest writers to publish blogs on various relevant topics. We started a weekly tech newsletter to take a deeper look into Nostr’s tech developments. Our on-the-ground reporter @Marce covered some incredible events, such as the first Nostr “Unconference” at Nostrica, as well as BTC Prague, Baltic Honeybadger, and Nostrasia.
And now we’re working on new formats and methods of keeping you informed about what’s happening on Nostr. As we reflect on an amazing 1st year, we have taken your feedback and suggestions to make some changes to the Nostr Report, which we announced last week and are in the process of developing. While the Daily Report was initially an effective tool, it became clear based on declining engagement, and your helpful feedback, that it was not the best content format moving forward. In addition to new content, we are also exploring new ways to sustain our efforts. We have learned a lot from operating solely on a V4V basis this past year, both in its potential and its current limitations. Our commitment to V4V continues, along with developing additional ways to support the time and efforts of our team members and contributors.
Thank you for an amazing first year! We can’t wait to see what the next 12 months have in store for all of us.

The SEC issued a statement providing an update on the unauthorized post that was published from their X account on Jan. 9 regarding the approval of several spot Bitcoin ETFs. In the statement, the SEC reports they were the victim of a SIM swap attack, which allowed an unauthorized party to gain access to their X account.

We can’t believe The Nostr Report is approaching its 1-year anniversary next week! We want to take a moment to reflect, and to make you aware of some coming changes. The year has flown by in a whirlwind of protocol and app development, unexpected hurdles, multiple conferences and meetups, and amazing new friendships. We began with a simple goal—to help you keep up with what’s happening on Nostr. If there’s one thing you quickly learn about Nostr, it’s that things can move fast here. You can blink an eye and miss a major announcement or development in your feed, and we’re here to help make sure you catch it.
Our team believes that #Nostr , #Bitcoin , and #FreedomTech in general, are crucial tools for humanity in the world today. Our passion is to learn about them, use them, and help inform you about them, and we believe that passion shows through the countless hours that each of our team members pours into The Nostr Report every single day bringing you daily news, articles and newsletters, interviews, cartoons and memes, and the Lightning Round each week on #PlebchainRadio.
A week ago, we posted a survey asking for your feedback, and we appreciate the nearly 40 responses we received. We are grateful and humbled by the overall positivity toward our efforts, and we are incredibly thankful for the sincere criticisms and suggestions for improvement. We also appreciate the ongoing feedback we receive each week from our readers. Your honesty and candor will help us ensure that The Nostr Report can serve you even better moving into the future.
One of the most obvious and immediate changes you’ll notice is that we are moving away from publishing a single comprehensive daily report. As the ecosystem and variety of Nostr client apps continues to broaden, it is difficult to ensure a consistent user experience when reading our daily report. Also, as we look to broaden our topics of interest, a single daily report continues getting longer (much like this announcement, haha) which we recognize makes reading it a challenge in some clients.
Instead of a single daily report, look to our Nostr feed and our Telegram channel ( https://nostr.report/premium ) for ongoing news and updates throughout the week, and a weekly recap of important news. The #NostrTechWeekly newsletter will continue bringing you the latest tech updates and conversations. The #MarceFiles interviews, #Rita cartoons, and our #LightningRound on Plebchain Radio will also continue. And memes. Gotta have the memes.
The Nostr Report is just getting started. As we look ahead to our next year, we are excited to continue creating great ways to keep you updated and aware of the amazing things and people on Nostr, as well as exploring how we can do our part to spread the good word about Nostr and bring in new users. Thanks for asking this. You would be surprised how much we’ve debated over how to approach this very issue, and we still don’t have a great solution. The problem we run into is that every client renders tagged notes differently, and some clients fully render every single tagged note inline. So if we tag multiple long notes in a post, then it becomes extremely long to scroll through. We’ve experimented with using njump links or direct links to Habla.news articles mitigate. But that isn’t ideal either, especially if your client can already handle the content and then we send you out to njump. It creates unnecessary steps for users. We wish there was a way to tag a note that would tell the client not to render it, so that we can still reference the original note IDs but readers could stay fully within their client. Open to suggestions.
