My big lesson for covid was just how long and how much shit people can get used to. It was like a slow as molasses shit hitting the fan, even in the beginning, when even the conspiracy theorists were hedging for the possibility of bad.
Now, because the economic collapse is not a super immediate event (even less than a theoretical pandemic), I'm assuming we will see our standards of living degrade in slow motion and we will have plenty of warnings as we fall to 2nd world.

Been thinking about this, and something didn't click until now.
I'm guessing now, that over the last 5 years, he's not been trying very hard to get laid. Or else it would have been very likely to have happened. Which means they both don't very much like sex with each other enough to make an effort, for whatever reason.
Not a happy state of things, but there they are, stuck.

There might be other solutions, but would take some courage and work. It sounds like he's given up on his own happiness, and whatever is going on, she may like the arrangement.

I've hatched a lot of eggs, only with an incubator, but never let the mom do the work.
Letting the mom do it all seems a much more natural, and effective way, even if there is some loss like in your case (but often the incubator is not 100% either).
It's likely a lower hatch rate will make the genetics much stronger as well.
No going back now!
