If an eth maxi just unilaterally merged it into the nip repo without any input or discussion, would you be ok with it? Some eth holders will say yes.
Now what if a bunch of clients all implement eth, and they start running into interoperability issues doing eth zaps, *then* we should define a standard for it in a NIP, with input from users, client devs and relay operators.
Now change eth to pronouns and you'll better understand my position and why I was against that hasty merge.
Pronouns have been reverted from the NIP repo.
The way to get pronouns on nostr if you want them is to ask your client devs to add them, not yolo merging it into NIPs.
Clients and users are already free to add them if they want which I fully support.
Don't play politics in the repo please
This can be said for hundreds if not thousands of possible fields. Not a single client has done it yet. The point of the NIP repo is to define defacto standards already in the wild, not hypothetical plans.
There are many more people using monero addresses in profile metadata today and yet nobody is just merging that as a standard, even though it actually already is one.
This was clearly a politically driven PR, it wasn't about protocol standards.
