The way to get pronouns on nostr if you want them is to ask your client devs to add them, not yolo merging it into NIPs. Clients and users are already free to add them if they want which I fully support. Don't play politics in the repo please
The point is to have a standard way of accomplishing a task so that when and if multiple clients plan on implementing it, they're doing it the same way. The best way to implement this is Alex Gleason's option though. That way it's more versatile.
This can be said for hundreds if not thousands of possible fields. Not a single client has done it yet. The point of the NIP repo is to define defacto standards already in the wild, not hypothetical plans. There are many more people using monero addresses in profile metadata today and yet nobody is just merging that as a standard, even though it actually already is one. This was clearly a politically driven PR, it wasn't about protocol standards.
Once a client implements this feature then you'll be all for this change? Ditto has already implemented it 😁
