Do I care about eth: no
Do I support eth nostr client: yes
Do I care if eth addy in your profile: no
Should we merge eth addy into NIP repo: no
If an eth maxi just unilaterally merged it into the nip repo without any input or discussion, would you be ok with it? Some eth holders will say yes.
Now what if a bunch of clients all implement eth, and they start running into interoperability issues doing eth zaps, *then* we should define a standard for it in a NIP, with input from users, client devs and relay operators.
Now change eth to pronouns and you'll better understand my position and why I was against that hasty merge.
they did it for the lulz
i mean, it seems obvious it was a prank
What you did was common sense. Don't worry about it.
people are so obsessed over the nips repo like it has any real power. the power comes from implementors choosing to implement things or not. the best ideas will have the highest number of implementations. just because a nip is merged doesn't mean its a good idea
So no pronouns in Damus? 😂
They can go into about, i don’t see the problem here
What's the point of the nips repo?
I’m obsessed with NIPS @@
I support generic profile fields with accompanying descriptions/codes. Whatever you want - eth address, pronouns, phone number, etc. Pretty sure that already exists though. No need to create hyper specific profile fields though
It looks to me like the commit you reverted was in bad faith. It appears to have been disguised as a joke in a perverse attempt to ram it through without consensus. You did the right thing.
