My 50yo dual still works just fine. It doesn't get a lot of use (usually just digitally recording an album once) but it still sounds fine - a lot better than the 50yo cassette tapes do.

I'm long past tired of hearing about this non story.
Yeah - she did something that would have been OK at say Red Rocks at the Beetlejuice. If it had been a regular person - this is NOT a story. It is still NOT a story that she did it.

@aeeadc79@5fa039c3
She got removed from a Beetlejuice show in Denver. The kind of actions that would be OK at Red Rocks isn't at the DCPA. Local news picked it up and her initial lying about what happened didn't help.
Robert Malone says the FDA has gone rogue

with plenty of examples how and why the recent approval of a new COVID vaccine is wrong.
I wonder when someone goes to court to strike down these EUAs since the emergency has ended. Another place where the executive branch is making decisions not authorized by law.
Matt Taibbi has a positive spin about the DOJ appeal to the Supreme Court for the Missouri vs Biden case
https://www.racket.news/p/the-supreme-court-will-rule-on-censorship
Odd - the RSS feed had the full text but I'm stopped at the paywall for the rest.
In brief when SCOTUS rules that will put the injunction and the statement that the US violated the 1st amendment into a pretty final form. That is a big win.
@5a9ad3e3
It was years ago so I don't know which wire wasn't being used. It could have been the "C" wire.
I mentioned the 4/5 wire issue because you may run into it and need an adapter or a jumper. My old Hunter thermostat uses a jumper with a 4 wire setup.
Whoever installed the cable had cut off the 5th wire at both ends. There was enough slack to use the 5th wire with the Ecobee instead of the adapter.
@5a9ad3e3
I haven't tried it but everything I looked at under the "shop" page seems to be out of stock.
I use an Ecobee - yeah it records a bunch of stuff but it also has the features I wanted like precooling and prewarming the home. It also knows about the high cost time periods so it can avoid use during those periods.
The prior thermostat only used four wires - the Ecobee comes with an adapter. But the cable had five wires so I made the changes needed so I could run w/o adapter.
@8f32156e
Not just downtown but I've been surprised how many areas in Portland OR have homeless camps. One strip was about 1/2 mile long.
The town I grew up in - Milwaukie OR - looked pretty much the same as when I lived there up to 1971. Some new houses - kind of hard to see the one I grew up in due to a huge tree in the way. Still no sidewalk on that street 50 years later.
@7d66b9a4
Was on a road trip with a rental car many years ago. Pulled a dead bird out of the front grill. Managed to use black tape behind the grill to put it back together enough to turn the car in without any noticeable damage.
Spending your money on trees for equity
https://sentinelcolorado.com/metro/aurora-gets-5-million-from-u-s-government-for-tree-planting/
In this case Aurora CO got $5M in US government funding to plant trees - primarily in areas with low income families.
I will note the city of Aurora took down a 1/2 mile long row of trees near "Dam West" on Peoria to put in a sidewalk. I wonder if they will do the same on Yale (only the north side has a sidewalk).
The Google trial seems to be pretty boring
https://www.bigtechontrial.com/p/the-power-of-defaults
This is the report from the third day & one of the issues is the "harm" caused to users when the default search is Google. No money changes hands so they argue about "the power of the default" and how good or not good the search results are.
If something real pops up, I'll post again.
@34b3698a
Yeah - I thought I only got it three times today. Plus mentioned about three times on the air as well. If it had been at Red Rocks, no one would have cared.
TIL - they have surveillance cameras on the audience at these big venues.
I've rarely ever seen them do a story about my congress critter Jason Crow (CO6) since his duty as an "impeachment manager". Pro or con - just invisible or only part of some story about all US congress critters.

Get the Vikings to quit giving up the ball and it might be interesting (or a blow out). The Eagles offense doesn't seem to be able to do anything (despite the better record).
Red zone on this series - maybe a score.
@5b39641a
But the story says
"SNA is requiring all airlines to reduce capacity on flights traveling to/from the airport through the end of the year. "
(to be environmentally responsible)
Why does the airport think that reducing passengers helps save the environment? If they said to reduce total payload then the airline could figure out the right mix of cargo & passengers. This way they could increase cargo and make more $$ and not help the environment.
@5b39641a
But flying with too few passengers just increases the fuel used per passenger. It's not like they won't fly out of some other airport (or even worse - drive). There are four major airports in the LA area (LAX, SNA, BUR, and ONT).
@87e0b6e2
Still called John Wayne Airport
https://www.ocair.com
Yeah - they considered changing the name for something said in 1971 (!) - it apparently came up again last year but still no change.

I've seen the store in the Seattle area - no one inside....
Okay, this appears weird to me
https://viewfromthewing.com/southwest-airlines-reveals-they-have-a-problem-at-orange-countys-airport/
Even 20 years ago (or so) the planes leaving SNA had to do an odd departure method. Go to the end of the runway, set brakes, full power, release brakes, rapid climb & then reduce power so you didn't make much noise until you were well past the coast.
Now they are limiting passengers on a plane - usually 143 to 175 - they can now only sell 100, 93, or 79.
How is THAT saving the environment?
@ceed4f56
This story has a few pictures of them
https://www.uncovercolorado.com/conspiracy-theories-denver-international-airport/
Scroll down a bit for the NWO mention on the time capsule capstone. That is in the "great hall" (outside of security). I forget where in that area though.
Most (all?) of the conspiracy signs put up during the Great Hall construction are gone. I didn't notice any the last trip.
Upstairs in the middle of Terminal B is a Voodoo Doughnuts. They have an alien picture (holding a donut).

TVTP - Targeted Violence and Terrorism Protection
https://reclaimthenet.org/dhs-funds-program-extremists-online-speech
DHS just issued $20M in 34 grants under that program.
Let's remember that prior statements indicate
"possible reasons to be branded a violent extremists or (domestic) terrorist could be disagreeing, and expressing that opinion online on anything from Covid, vaccines, gun rights, gender and LGBTQ policies, the war in Ukraine, or immigration."
Will this lead to more censorship?

You have to scroll down a bit but a key issue is the SCOTUS ruling in 2022 about how Congress MUST provide specificity in laws when authorizing government departments too make or change regulations.
Yet another effort to reduce the US government overreach by these administrative departments.
Dismiss, compartmentalize, and scold.

According to the MDM - this is the playbook from the White House about Pinocchio Joe's upcoming impeachment defense. With two dozen attorneys working on this defense for a year now.
It mentions only a couple of the issues raised and ignores many others. Joe is also ignoring all questions on the topic.
I had to laugh a bit at this story
https://coloradosun.com/2023/09/14/lauren-boebert-politics-opinion-zornio/
You can call Lauren Boebert
- a train wreck
- our worst representative
- "insurrectionist, traitor, seditionist, criminal, ineffective, obnoxious, entitled, ignorant, incompetent and embarrassing. The list goes on."
But don't call her
“Hoebert,” “bitch,” “prostitute,” “slut,” “whore,” “bimbo” — you get the idea.
The popup asking for money will tell you this is "good journalism" - ha!
@d8402a8b@60d98082
Alas, no.
It was one of those - ALL companies must respond with their certification statement about their products being compatible with Y2K.
I did a quick search - I can't seem to find an online source for that.
I will also note that Y2K problems started in 1995 or so - in credit card processing when the expiration date of the card was 2000 or later.
They continue to pop up in 2010, 2020 (y2k+20) where code worked around the problem instead of fixing it too.
@PunishedD
As a data point, I usually travel with two bags - roughly 80-90 pounds total. Plus you are ignoring freight like mail or other items.

Because the rest of that NASA plane is pretty much empty. Except for the bins of rocks carried down low to move the center of mass back down near the wing.
The aircraft you get to fly in is full of lots of people (that weigh a LOT more than the suitcases) as well as suitcases and other cargo.
@bb644797
I looked at another description - larger than my home. Sleeps up to eight. Separate elevator, hot tubs and other amenities. The high cost suites are all booked for the initial cruise.
But yeah, I'm not interested.
@91f99226
Downloaded it via VPN?
I noticed as I travel around the US that I sometimes get "local" ads for wherever I am at when I downloaded it. Though "local" can be over 100 miles away if their geolocation is crap.
@d8402a8b@60d98082
Yeah - that was likely in lower end network gear. I could see some higher end gear would use date/time in some way (say for updates or NTP services).
Hey - my favorite one was the request to a company for their Y2K certification for SAND.
@4206c9f7
I've seen that between LTE and 4G in some spots as well.
Everyone tries to get onto the fastest network but the backhaul MAY be different for the two protocols and you get MUCH better performance on the "slower" network. Usually in a crowded place like a restaurant on in a ski area or near a large office building.
@6d6ec790
I regularly use
ping -i5 www.google.com
to make sure everything keeps working on the network front.
Especially useful at a hotel where the connection may just be AWFUL and I just need to use my cell connection instead.
