Okay, this appears weird to me

Even 20 years ago (or so) the planes leaving SNA had to do an odd departure method. Go to the end of the runway, set brakes, full power, release brakes, rapid climb & then reduce power so you didn't make much noise until you were well past the coast.
Now they are limiting passengers on a plane - usually 143 to 175 - they can now only sell 100, 93, or 79.
How is THAT saving the environment?
