How does one feel strongly about Jesus? How does one have a personal relationship with Christ?
In general I feel very little or nothing when I think about god and he exists to me more as a vague concept.
Any advice?
Brief background. I grew up catholic. Altar boy, Catholic school etc… in general I had good interactions with Catholicism, but definitely was harmed by the classic Catholic guilt at home with family etc…
In middle school I went to a Lutheran school which was run by young earth creationists who in addition to being morons also happened to be hypocrites .
Really turned me off on religion in general and I decided that I was an agnostic atheist at 13 or 14 years old.
I basically stayed this way until I had children, which brought me around to believing in god again.
Someone once described the Holy Ghost thing to me as water in three forms. Solid, liquid and gas.
I think you’re probably right and that trust is a key part of the equation. I’ll have to overcome that hurdle at some point.
Sometimes I think this way and then I remind myself that all of the best things in life are cheap or free. Trips to the ice cream shop, playing at the park. Hiking. Biking as a family, going to get a hamburger and fries etc…
Kids don’t need trips to Europe or whatever. That’s shit that adults want. Kids like regular life.
You also don’t know what unseen benefits being marginally poorer are providing you.
For instance I could have bought a home with a bedroom for every kid and probably still will at some point. But the bunk beds and shared bedrooms my kids have increase their bonding when they’re young making it likely for them to be closer when they’re older.

The group of successful guys I know with a lot of kids and a good marriage met their wife relatively young. Late teens - early twenties and then were married by 26/27 and had kids before they were 30.
The other group of guys I know who played the field and settled down late tend to have more drama / divorce less kids on average and generally seem less happy.
