Going down the Nostr rabbit hole figuring out how to post Simply Bitcoin content reminds me of my...
Dude @nico we should def just shoot the shit about #Nostr sometime. Let’s do a show together
I’m not much of a mobile gamer but I tried again recently to find just a single playable game a...
Low hanging fruit, extremely short term attention span for playing. Mobile gaming seems built around playing something for 3 minute spans that try to get people addicted to *actually* play for like 2 hours. So everything is built with fast, cheap “thrills” combined in short bursts of play.

The popular Battle Royale game is a great example. I got stuck on that for a few months way back when. Individual rounds are like a minute, but it gives you rewards and incentivizes to keep doing another, and another, and another. Roping you in with “I’ve only got 2 minutes to play model,” but trapping you with “instant rewards.”

Seems to be the way the platform has evolved. Kind of a terrible recipe for the quality of games, imo.
It’s funny how novel it seems to be able to choose your #nostr client and still have your social graph and ID, when we actually do this all the time with email and podcast clients.
You can listen to all the same podcasts no matter what podcast client you use. And if it isn’t there by some chance (most are basically broadly available on any half decent podcast app), you can just paste the link in. Hosts have a nearly endless market of providers too. There are many thousands of options for either listening to or hosting podcasts.
Just leave @nostr.build open and drop everything over there to paste the link. It’s quick if you just have it on hand.
I have now read Peter Todd's review on Bitcoin L2's and covenants and found it incredibly underwh...
 🤣🤣
I took it as what it seemed to be; A collection and breakdown of the main proposals out there.

I was disappointed that the ones I knew least about and were curious to finally get some solid info on, were basically addressed with “there’s no strong analysis of this, so we won’t cover it anymore.” However, I also took this as a way to get a lot of people on the same page or “caught up” so to speak. I wasn’t really thinking that anyone who looked into each of these individually would be gaining a ton of new info from it.
Two major problems with WoT relays:

 - cannot find brand new nostriches
 - if just one person i...
I think a “weighting” system needs to be developed. Where a trust score is aggregated, and specifically a “mute” and “spammer” tag are taken as negative scores. Then basically anything neutral or above 0 is shown to the user. This would mean you still see new people as long as your WoT doesn’t label them as spammers or mute them. Then obviously if someone you follow reposts them or likes something, then you see it as well. Maybe engagement of some sorts should be considered a positive to the scoring? 🤔

Obviously easier said than done, but I think a combination of things will be the best result in the end. Testing to see which has the optimum of “still sees new things, but sees extremely few spammers” will just take time.

Best thing would be to have a spammer tagging system so that the WoT shares a defensive spam pool. Because I know we ALL spent time muting and reporting the same “reply guys,” probably 1000s of times.
I disagree, it sounds complicated but it would really be 3 things:
• did someone in your WoT mute/mark as spam?
-1
• does someone in your WoT follow?
+1
• did someone in your WoT repost, like, or zap?
+1

Could literally be that simple. And all this info is basically being pulled together anyway. Spammers will naturally end up with negative scores very quickly.
Likes or shares could defend against someone just being a tool and calling someone a spammer because they disagree with them.
And new accounts/posts with no connection to your WoT won’t be hidden by default, they will simply have a score of 0/neutral.
Just for reference, I think this is literally only 1 additional data point to what Coracle is already doing with their little WoT score next to the name. And I’ve seen first hand how useful that thing is
Wait is this a real picture? And if it is, how in the hell does that happen?
My first thinking was there was some sort of huge tank sticking into the trees, but there’s no spot on the ground with dead grass to back that up, lol
 In retrospect it was obvious
I had Scissorhands in my top 5 🤣
As a massive film buff from a rather early age, this was one movie I had never even seen. One of those “everybody knows it obviously and I’ve watched random scenes from it numerous times,” yet I had never really watched the movie.

Then, as a bit Tim Burton fan, I decided to do a thorough analysis of his films and themes that stretched across his work in film school, and so I went through and watched all of his movies. Sat down with a crew and watched it for the first time in my 3rd year in college… could not believe how great it was. Instant classic. Now we watch it every Christmas.
I was actually thinking about that. I usually am annoyed with the “20 years later” sequels, but that actually looks really good and it’s Burton doing it still and I pretty much like his entire portfolio… so hard to go wrong 😆
“I will use the German people’s stolen money with all the commitment of someone who loses nothing to support you and I don’t care what the people think that I steal from.”
 Update.

I'm too much of a pussy to do it

Never too late. For fantasy football money I’d absolutely do it. But I’d use all of it personally 😆

But in terms of probability of return, the comparison isn’t really even a contest. #Bitcoin wins hands down.
Ooooooh, lol. Yeah NEVER risk other people’s money unless you are ready to cover every cent/sat… and if that’s the case then just use your own money anyway.

You could put it out there and tell your fantasy football team that they should do this with half the money if they actually want to make a gain on it and split the earnings though.
Sometimes shit happens and it makes you feel like an idiot, and a failure. And you realize just how much you wasted and how much you promised that wasn't even close to where/what you thought it was.

Sometimes you put enormous amounts of personal capital and work into something and the results end up being "fuck all" and all you can feel is embarrassed, stupid, and angry.

I guess what I'm getting at is that's its ok ,and at some point that's just how shit is going to unfold if you try to do something useful.

Doesn't mean you will end up with what you hoped for, and that's really just part of the process most of the time.

"get back on the horse..." feels trite, but it's really all there is. Give up, or keep going are the options on the table.

I'm not fucking giving up so...
A bunch of things Al in the same week actually, but I’ll probably share some of it on the show in the next couple of weeks depending on how things play out. It was just a particularly heavy day at the end of a series of them.
“I know Bitcoin is a low-float scam” says the guy who holds the most utter trash money from an integrity standpoint that humanity has ever used…
Just a heads up for anyone who posts media and especially for those who want to be nice to @nostr.build servers:

This video started as 184 MB, but I did the quick conversion I always do for web media, and the mp4 version was 3.9 MB.

That’s a 97.9% reduction in size!

Handbrake is a free tool that I use constantly, and you can use ffmpeg CLI if that works better for you (or you want to build an auto-tool with Ai to do it with a simple drag and drop function). But you can convert video to vastly more efficient formats without even being able to see the difference in quality, *especially* if you did a screen capture.

Many don’t realize how important that step is, so it’s good to remind people who don’t think about it. nostr:note1xxxwl894ee3pf8zcmvf3r4axugk5wz00ne5um2fad92266ry6wjsgwe382
In handbrake I use “very fast 720P 30 fps” as MP4 with “web optimized” selected. Always gives the best output with lowest data cost, imo.

I’ll share the ffmpeg settings too when I’m back to my desktop. It’s in a tiny app I did with Ai so I don’t see the settings often enough to memorize them.
I’ve been using handbrake for what seems like a decade. It’s the perfect example (along with ffmpeg underneath it) of a “simple and just works” application.

I'd bet that there is something out there but i don't know it off the top of my head unfortunately.
It was "leaked" that ai is about to take over all coding jobs. That means its serious guys!

Gotta walk right up to her and introduce yourself. Tell her it’s because you could tell she thought you were cute and you wanted to save her from having to ask for your number 😆
I’m seriously considering just pausing our home construction so I can buy sats then starting it back in a few months… how foolish is that? #Bitcoin

She is generally on board. She has always trusted in buying the dip. Although we have another kid in the way and pausing construction could be a huge pain due to a short span available to work around things.
Yeah that’s always the problem. Can you actually wait the time it takes? Or are you getting yourself stuck because it could always just go the path of “more pain than you expected” and punish you even worse when you have even fewer options.
I have a house, this is construction that is finishing the basement. But otherwise i agree generally
I’ve been using Hushed for a couple of years
I can't remember if I had trouble with hushed on "confirm your mobile" websites or not, but I know i've used it for many so i can't be certain off the top of my head. I have a rando SIM number as well for when the other options dont work
These companies think they can make billions without having to learn anything or take any responsibility... they will learn the very, VERY hard way that this isn't the fiat world.

#Bitcoin will always punish the fiat mind.

https://m.primal.net/KgsZ.png
It's going to be brutal, and its inevitable unless we get lucky with a small hack and it scares the shit out of half of these stupid, irresponsible shitheads and they make the necessary changes.

Otherwise, there is only one most likely outcome to this story. And they will deserve it.
I think it is a mistake to equate the many hoops around regulations as “security,” when I know multiple people who tried to get regulatory approval, and ended up having to refuse because it would have deliberately *weakened* their actual security to follow their requirements.

For the regulations to make sense from a bitcoin keys perspective, it has to understand them. I find it extremely unlikely that they do.

There are likely areas where some of it still applies, mainly in basic computer access, user controls, and possibly physical separation. But the idea that this properly translates to the bitcoin environment and doesn’t either leave them vulnerable to accidental data loss (because you can always “roll back” in fiat) or exposure of keys in a different way (because authority overrides mistakes in fiat) I think would likely be naive.

If you want to argue that regulations work and that incentives are aligned, I’d probably just point to the AAA ratings for MBS’s immediately prior to the worst housing collapse in this countries history.

“Corrupt” or “incompetent” I think are far more broadly accurate terms when it comes to describing our regulatory systems.
They won’t sure the govt if the govt puts them in charge of the new “govt bitcoin banking reserve.” Easiest way to consolidate power is to give a little bit of it to the people who have the capital you want to control.

The govt would easily PR their way to controlling what they need to if it’s left this centralized and vulnerable. If it’s an existential choice between the govt status quo and the people’s rights, there is no ambiguity in what decision they will make.
I think the shifts in the political environment in the past few years has made it far less likely, but I think that also depends on how hard they come down with the hammer if they consolidate more power in the next few years or not. I’m hopeful in that regard though. I think they are losing their grip on things and general dis-consensus in the political power world is good for us.
Has it come to this? 🥲 Not a bad shout tho 🤔
No more GM protocol, end of an era etc lol.
no...
I just muted “GM, from wss://“
I've been banning bots all fuckin day.
I muted “GM, from wss” a few hours ago and haven’t seen any since
Rules for thee, but not for me.

I think this plea is being made probably to avoid chasing down any actually serious crimes. I’m sure there was a “don’t look at the collusion, the explicit selling of political influence, trading political programs for foreign power, and let’s ignore connections to human trafficking of course, but I’ll plead guilty to the tax thing now and daddy can pardon me since he’s still president.”
 Hey #nostr is it “no-str” or “naw-str”?
 Correct, lol
Nos-tr sounds better, but doesn’t lend itself to the ostrich connection.

Nah-str gets the ostrich connection but makes absolutely no sense.

If we went with the “o” sound from “notes” then it’s No-str.
If we went with the “o” sound from “other”, then it’s Nuh-str.
If we went with the “o” sound from “nostril” then it makes no sense whatsoever and why on earth would we do that? But we do get ostriches.

I literally say it both ways all the time.
Tell that to the Gif and Jif crowd.

(It’s obviously GIF by the way 😆)
The US needs this so bad it isn’t even funny. You could literally delete 80% of govt and no one but their employees would even feel it. But then we still need to cut 80% of what’s left so people *can* feel it and THEN we actually have a shot at stopping the govt from destroying our gd country. nostr:note1pqx43exq206ls0k3lagfvj5vfl7tuxm0lqkl3ssywvvl0f9n2u8sghhvc6
I think we pay politicians nothing, disallow any power or ability to distribute funds in any way, and make it an exclusively volunteer system where people who actually care are the only ones who show up.

Govt shouldn’t be run like a business, it isn’t about “investment” or “enterprise.” Thats our problem, imo. The govt is literally just a huge, corrupt, horrifically incompetent corporation. It shouldn’t and never was supposed to be any such thing
Did someone take a shit in your cornflakes this morning man?
Paying them nothing comes attached to removing their power. The problem is the power to just pay out trillions of dollars to any arbitrary program. If there is no power to buy, then it won’t be corrupt. And if there’s extremely little power to buy, and it IS corrupt, who cares?

End govt subsidies entirely. End govt programs. Require any program that still has to happen to have a 80%+ LOCAL vote in the area to actually get through. Make the politicians irrelevant, not rich.
 🤣🙏🏻
To the contrary society would not decay, it would finally stop funding the things that are the actual *source* of its decay.

It would feel bad for a short period of time, but the change itself would literally be the defunding of that which is literally *destroying* society today. And the middle class, after a temporary shock, would immediately go into a huge recovery and growth period.

Following the initial capital reallocation, we would experience the most profound period of aggressive growth that we’ve likely ever seen. We would have the technological landscape and acceleration while *actually* aligning it to investments that benefit society. It would legit be a renaissance.
JoinMarket, which has been running since like 2013 without trouble, would like a word…
Man, them bubbles is crazy stick together.
“IF BITCOIN IS SUCCESSFUL APPLE WILL BAN THE APPS. WE SHOULD JUST USE APPLE PAY.”

“IF NOST...
This is the ultimate defeatist, pussified take.

If you bail on freedom because you are worried it’ll be “removed from the App Store” then you never cared about it to begin with. You *deserve* to lose it.
Btw, this is a form of capitulation if it isn’t obvious.

The position has to shift from “Nobody uses Nostr, it doesn’t even work,” to “Sure I like Nostr, but…”

I remember as this same thing began happening with bitcoin. We are going to win. It feels too similar, imo. nostr:note14ch4hz8gfkyesaj8nll7z7dvyuxpp04454pl74aq6l5zwmuq46dqttm5m9
I love Parker but this argument makes no sense at all. Thats like saying you can censor individual miners, and thus Wyoming is better than Bitcoin because they are actively trying to make a reliable, freedom focused legal system.
