I’m not much of a mobile gamer but I tried again recently to find just a single playable game and I couldn’t find anything. Why are mobile games so much worse and degenerate than PC and console games. I feel like there is an opportunity here.
PSP Emulator is the best mobile gaming rn
Oldschool RuneScape and chess are the only games I’ve been playing on my phone that don’t suck
The only good phone game I’ve ever played (beyond old school RuneScape): ONE PIECE Bounty Rush https://apps.apple.com/us/app/one-piece-bounty-rush/id1343688545?ppid=79654007-1f93-4bc1-a436-7ab31ac14cf6
“Damus Games”
Emulation is about the only GOOD gaming on mobile. It’s all just soulless money grabbing slop in the App Store.
they’re always so ate up. i have one mobile game app, and it’s this one that has all classic games that you can play alone or with friends. only one worth downloading imo. https://image.nostr.build/35ee367c73219d56172383abcf159d302c7abd338d41b36077053c5c74b5d688.jpg https://image.nostr.build/f7ba5f8ff8f521ea53caa930709d96079ea04ba68a438ff223b6ed1cd6852ac3.jpg
Feel nostalgic with me, friend... 🥲 https://playclassic.games/
Last time I tried Apple Arcade it was a breath of fresh air. A good selection of games, 0 microtransactions/ads… just games made to be played, not to extract value from you.
I think PUBG mobile has more players than the PC version. I hate mobile games tho so I don’t understand how anyone can play them
Now that the hardware is so good there is an opportunity to make some great games, but they all seem to suck
Competency crisis
The problem is nobody wants to pay for mobile games, so developers go the pay-to-win/casino route to make money.
The only mobile game worth playing is Old School RuneScape. 😤
There are a few good ones, all PC game ports, but for the most part, the only way to play good games on mobile is through emulators. I have a Steam Deck, so I don't do that on phones or tablets for the most part, but I do like using ScummVM for old point & click adventures on mobile, it's even available for iPad.
i miss my nintendo ds
Retroarch based console, but Nintendo DS is based on DraStic. Device can be connected with PC and install other games, few days ago I installed some old games from Commodore64 😉 disclaimer: I'm just a user, not selling these, but having lots of fun. https://m.primal.net/Kktd.mp4
whoa, that is cool. i will look into getting myself one. i miss the handheld era of games
Nintendo DS was peak mobile. DragonQuest IX maxin.
I haven't played that Dragon Quest but I will try it 😁
Theres a lot of them, but IX is my favorite.
I bought a Backbone controller for my phone and have been playing retro games on Retroarch. Apple is slowly bringing big names over to the App store but the performance isn't there yet. AC Mirage ran like shit on both the M4 iPad and iPhone 15 pro.
I have an old portable Nintendo 3DS console with custom firmware. It's quite mobile and has a ton of great games. I recommend it.
Have you tried any of the old retro arcade games on mobile ? R-type is really playable with two thumbs 👍🏼 if you don’t know it - it’s a classic set um up side scrolling shoot um up
I love me some R-Type and Project: Raiden... Raptor and Tyrian were good too!
Low hanging fruit, extremely short term attention span for playing. Mobile gaming seems built around playing something for 3 minute spans that try to get people addicted to *actually* play for like 2 hours. So everything is built with fast, cheap “thrills” combined in short bursts of play. The popular Battle Royale game is a great example. I got stuck on that for a few months way back when. Individual rounds are like a minute, but it gives you rewards and incentivizes to keep doing another, and another, and another. Roping you in with “I’ve only got 2 minutes to play model,” but trapping you with “instant rewards.” Seems to be the way the platform has evolved. Kind of a terrible recipe for the quality of games, imo.
A big part of it is because of how mobile games are monetized. It is very hard to sell a mobile game. So most are built around ads and/or in-app purchases to extract money. Maintaining mobile games is also a significant ongoing effort, compared to PC or console games, partially because both Android and iOS are developer hostile for different reasons.
I was so frustrated with modern mobile games so I purchased a R36S mobile retro console with bunch of old nes, snes, n64, ps1, psp games for my 3rd grade son. Lots of fun for 40 bucks. https://m.primal.net/KkAs.jpg
Infinitode isn't the worst way to spend some idle time. It's my waiting room game of choice. CoD zombies on mobile honorable mention.
Only game you need on your phone https://m.primal.net/KkKA.png
I think the comparison between mobile and PC/Console #games is unfair. You can’t put the same #graphics and #processing hardware into a mobile device to have the same performance as a PC or Console. Or, if you manage to get that done, you’d end up with a very uncompetitive mobile device from a price perspective.
I never could get past the loss of an actual gamepad controller... All that tilt-sensor and touch-screen button emulation was way too awkward for my NES sensibilities... That Hay Day and Star Trek: Fleet Command did suck me in for a while. I keep going back to my PC and playing "Beneath a Steel Sky". I miss Apogee and Sierra games. Blaster Master was the best NES game for me. BioForge was a great PC adventure game. Laser Squad and Privateer were fun. The Descent: Free Space games were totally awesome with the asymetrical Shivan aliens! For new games, I like BAR: Beyond All Reason RTS...
Is there a Bitcoin Advanture game yet? 😇
Try getting an Xbox controller and using Bluetooth to pair the two. Playing anything with fingers on the screen is a pain in the ass
