@silent.link Going to try and ditch the UK phyical sim and run phone from e-sim (second attempt). It's been over year with I listened to you on CitDispatch, best option for daily use? I remember you advocated an oversees sim with roaming and I can't be pinged constantly from the towers. Is this still the preferred method?
3 days in Berlin and #Monero is everywhere. Some Berliners like privacy.
Meanwhile for the masses in the UK, it's trending to zero.

My son has ran down his huge supply of two pence pieces.
On to the fives for this week. Good to see your offspring doing the work.

Can anyone tell me what version of the Pixel 8a is ok for @GrapheneOS install?
Previous Pixel 6a and 7a I bought second hand units that couldn’t be re-flashed back from CalyxOS to google. My mistake but eager not the make the same again.
This is the easiest lift for me in terms of purchase via Bitrefill but will the same issue persist?

Slow days are good for node setups.
Pitching @umbrel against a @Start9 DIY build on my usual Dell refurbished metal.
Didn’t start well for Umbrel as the power supply was faulty but I had a spare so onwards.
Umbrel now packing #monero daemon in the App Store so that’s a plus but damn is it laggy.
Anyone favour Start9 for pure bitcoin play?
https://m.primal.net/JIrx.jpg
I didn’t know that. Many thanks. I was side loading Monero on Umbrel last year but nice to see it featured. Monero is as important as Bitcoin imo.
Decided to download and run Start9 based on your tweet today around Max having a win with S9. Props.
Had the spare metal after my node suddenly filled up with spam to the full 2TB last week for no reason. Bizarre but couldn’t be arsed to run the logs so it’ll be remain a mystery.
Pissing with rain here in the UK and market looking horrendous so the perfect time to put them head to head.
PS, passport is amazing. Got over my initial niggles of no trick-me pin and no encrypt passphrase to microSD but loving it as my luke warm wallet paired with Blue. Keep up the good work, appreciate you.
Anyone experienced in dust attacks? #bitcoin.
This one is posed as BRC20 txs, 546 sats with 5sat/vb that will never confirm or get purged.
Two of these are sat in one of my wallets. Dusting started a week ago and it seems to be in long chain with over 200 other wallets.
Best practice? Freeze and forget or pay the CPFP and burn?
Hopefully a coincidence but my node seemed to have been spammed in some way. Went from 1TB to using the full 2TB within a day making it impossible to catch up to the chaintip. Anyone heard of this behaviour before?
@ODELL
Any help gratefully received.
There are times to run, times to walk and times to do nothing.
3 days in Rome last week was the perfect relaxation before diving back in to bitcoin.
Enjoy Greece, one of my favourite countries in the world.

Still my favourite one-stop-shop tool for simplifying my life.
Sparrow and Featherwallet.
Does it beat Whonix on a VPS? No idea but if it's not broke then why fix it. tailsOS been a solid perfomer for me for over 7 years now.
#monero + #bitcoin
Dual coin future.
UX is amazing.
Easy multi device multisig setup, easy airgapped support via PSBTs from my Foundation Passort.
Sparrow is way more intuitive and powerful transaction building interface.
Doesn't fuck around with lightning.
Overall granular control and parameters that anyone can learn.
Craig Raw ships code that is high quality and for me, it's left Electrum for dust. Not to say Electrum is bad, it's stood the test of time but looks and feels second class.
Why?
Electrum on tailsOS has been working well for nearly a decade.
Sparrow is easy to install from terminal.
No issues here.
Featherwallet for #monero should come baked in though. Awesome wallet for this environment. Obvs Monerujo for Graph phones.
Does anyone still use email anymore? Only thing I use it for is for signups and purchases. Almost every other communication is on short form IMs like Signal. Times change and for the better in this case.
Just finished watching https://www.deathathletic.com/
Never thought this would be a rabbit hole that I would go down but since I heard @ODELL talking about the murder of JStark I'm learning so much about this movement. Not sure what I'll find at the bottom of all this.
A car, one of the few “assets” that depreciates every minutes of the day even when not in use. Mostly a liability if there is a loan but it’s their inherent utility that makes it confusing for the rubes. The ability for humans to travel long distances over short time periods is a superpower. In that regard, cars are a valuable asset.
lil Schiff finally went off reservation frfr. This is what denouncing Bitcoin gets you. Good news is that we welcome back all in to the fold. Only a matter of time.
Decent post. Hard not to level up to smooth brain maxipad nostr levels on here. Yes, we need as much diversity on here as possible. Monero, ordinals, the whole lot.
You’re confusing privacy with anonymity. Totally different beasts. Bitcoin isn’t anonymous so it’s not perfect money. Great SoV though.
We know many of Satoshi’s addresses, transactions and blocks he mined.
So you’re saying he fucked up real bad?
Umbrel does IBD over tor and it’s free and one line of code on pretty much any piece of junk hardware with enough storage. Why is Start9 such a revelation to people with a $1300 price tag for prism hardware and spec isn’t that good.
Not that easy.
One of my wallets has over 1500 UTXOs, all carefully curated, isolated, consolidated, labelled over the years. You don’t just hit the nuke button and sweep to a new xpub like changing a show on Netflix.
If you make a fuck up, how does moving to a new xpub help? There is no backward facing privacy. It’s just a series of breadcrumbs to new addresses. Only way is to coinjoin and that’s fast becoming a dead duck. You can’t erase history.
Bitcoin wasn’t designed to be private or anonymous and we shouldn’t assume otherwise. It’s got so many advantages of other forms of money but this area is a real weakness. Satoshi wrote about this extensively.
Same as when areas of London that were immigrant strongholds became “gentrified”, the hipsters moved in and suddenly that same area became fake, expensive and full of wankers.
Going for retirement funds would be suicide for any political party.
A bitcoin nationalisation program would be an easy lift. They get to assassinate bitcoin socially, most salty nocoiners will eat the narrative and support the move.
Shoulder surgery out the way, rehab starting Monday. Time to enjoy some decent weather get out there for a hike.
Always time to #bitcoin later. Health comes first.
This looks pretty much like the UK town I was born in 40+ years ago. The town’s official motto was Out of Darkness, Cometh Light. I went back there last month for the first time in the decade and it’s actually taken a step back. Bitcoin can’t fix everything.
I was once like you Fred. But now I feel corruption wins more often than not so reversion to the worse possible scenario over decades will be the trajectory. The old power structures won’t go without a fight. They won’t and can’t kill bitcoin so they’ll just target bitcoiners themselves.
Bitcoin doesn’t need mass adoption to win. I’m personally targeting the SoV narrative. Always have since I found bitcoin. I spend in Monero but believe Bitcoin will take gold’s crown. It’s an easy10x from here in terms of MC. We can have less than 1% of the world owning bitcoin and still win as the best SoV / savings device.
In terms of an idyllic future of hyperbitcoinization I personally feel that is off the cards and I’m ok with it.
Back to #NOSTR
Have to give this platform another try. I owe it to @ODELL
Heaps of maxis a few months ago but hoping there is more depth.
Need to fix my relays and my feed.
On it.
Current #bitcoin ramblings from the depths of my tiny lizard brain.
"Serfs and Sovereigns, Two tribes, One future" encapsulates the profound divide in the digital age between those who passively engage with new technologies and those who actively seek to understand and manipulate these tools for greater freedom. In the context of Bitcoin, this dichotomy is starkly illustrated by two groups: the "serfs" and the "sovereigns."
The serfs represent the majority who interact with Bitcoin through conventional exchanges, often with Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations. They are the "NPC dead-eyes," a term evoking the non-player characters in video games, suggesting a lack of agency or critical thought. These individuals may not fully grasp the implications of their digital financial transactions, overlooking the importance of financial privacy and autonomy. They are content with the convenience and perceived security provided by regulated platforms, yet remain unaware of the invisible chains that bind them - reliance on third parties, vulnerability to regulatory changes, and exposure to surveillance.
In contrast, the sovereigns are the vanguards of the digital realm, the hardcore cypherpunks who champion decentralization, privacy, and autonomy. They delve into the technicalities of Bitcoin, running their nodes, advocating for privacy-enhancing technologies, and circumventing traditional financial systems. These individuals embody the spirit of true digital sovereignty, existing as freemen unshackled by the constraints of centralized systems. Their approach to Bitcoin is not just as a form of investment but as a tool for liberation, a means to reclaim control from centralized financial authorities.
The statement "Two tribes, One future" suggests an eventual convergence or a shared destiny between these two groups. It implies that the future of Bitcoin and digital currencies at large will be shaped by the actions and choices of both the serfs and the sovereigns. The serfs, though currently in chains, have the potential to evolve, learning from the sovereigns to value and protect their financial privacy and freedom. Conversely, the sovereigns face the challenge of making their esoteric knowledge accessible and actionable for the masses, thereby empowering more individuals to break free from the constraints of traditional financial systems.
In essence, the future of digital currencies like Bitcoin hinges on the interplay between these two groups. The serfs' awakening to the importance of privacy and autonomy, guided by the sovereigns' pioneering spirit, could lead to a more decentralized and free financial future. Conversely, a failure to bridge this divide might reinforce existing power structures, leaving the promise of digital currencies unfulfilled. The statement "Serfs and Sovereigns, Two tribes, One future" is thus a call to action, urging a collective effort towards a future where financial autonomy and privacy are not just the privileges of a few, but the rights of all.
Nope, it was Lopp and the other maxis who were saying it's the biggest threat to bitcoin.
Now maxis are salty at ordinals because they can't buy a coffee with bitcoin and orange pill their Uber driver.
Can't please em either way.
Meanwhile bitcoin continues to care little what's actually been transacted as long as it doesn't break consensus.
But chief maxi pad Luke reckons he'll just censor the spam. What a sorry state of affairs.
Thank fuck for Monero.
And that's totally fine. I find the hatred of Ordinals fascinating on Nostr and in general. Maxis love the expression "everything is good for bitcoin" mantra and phrases like antifragile yet get their knickers in a twist because fees are pricing them out of a pure PvP mempool.
It's a little embarrassing tbf
Why is it unethical?
"The true value of something is just the price someone is willing to pay for it"
Who are you to tell someone is unethical to sell an apple for $5?
The majority of ordinal inscribers who have been around since May are Sparrow power users and know their way around a PSBT better than most WoS maxis.
#bitcoin.
I do work for an ordinals project and that’s where my interests are in bitcoin are currently but I’ve been using Sparrow for years and Samourai since day 1 since I have a real need for security and privacy on chain.
Ordinals have their detractors, especially on #nostr but bitcoin is for enemies. That’s what I love about it so much. No one can tell you what bitcoin is or should be. If anyone does or declares “I’ve grokked bitcoin” then they don’t understand the technology.
It’s when you start talking to Satoshi on the phone that you concede those tabs weren’t 110mcg and instead were 500mcg JOR’s Xtal #1 GFD needlepoint from 2015.
#LSD
You know it brother! GG still going strong, many nyms. Got to be one of the longest running now surely?
TMG is sorely missed, those were their good old days for sure. Great vibes.
