Over the last years I’ve gradually pretty much eliminated seed oils from my diet. It’s become so prevalent in all kinds of processed foods, that many people get tons of it without realizing. Low hanging fruit for better health is to eat less processed stuff.
I used to buy mayonnaise at the store... 85% rapeseed oil
What oil is best used to make mayonnaise with at home? Avocado oil?
How is your promise to eat more eggs daily going?
Stay out of the center aisles at the store. Nothing but trouble there. I had a "lunch provided" deal the other day and it was pizza. Not exaggerating even a little bit, I felt like I was poisoned. 🤢
At my workplace we have a provided lunch about every month. I go to be social and just drink water. I've long gotten over being the weird one.
Yeah I'm not getting caught out again. I'll pack a lunch next time.
Echoing the same sentiment here. Whole. foods. If you eat whole foods high in protein and fat, you just eat less and feel better.
That's the beauty of a carnivore diet!..🤎
I could not agree more. Even when you decide not to cook in it anymore yourself it's still a major ingredient in so much other crap. Buy fresh, non processed food and learn to cook! Your body will thank you!
Where do you get your tallow? I’ve got a local meat processing plant run by a guy I know and he basically gives me the suet for free and I render it myself. It’s so epic.
Sadly in the USA 🇺🇸 many lack that option because of financial conditions It’s a constant issue to have farmers markets constantly open to working with lower income. I know this as I’ve worked in it.
Indeed, seed oils do cause retardation. I wonder if autism is flared up by seed oils (which I happened to have).
Most likely not. Vaccines are the major cause of autism and maybe glyphosate...
I only use butter, lard (animal fats), coconut oil and olive oil. At home its easy. The problem is every time I eat out I need to ask what oils they use. The others don't seem to care including our guests. It's like my family and I are the only one obsessed about this and they stare at us. We are fine with that 😆
We got vegan, vegetarian, nut free, oat milk, when seed oil free options in the supermarkets and restaurants?
Raw cow's milk is seed oil free. 😉
1. What restaurant serves that. 2. My grocery stores don't srll that. 3. Do I only eat and drink raw cows milk? 4. Actually, does even full fat milk, semi or pasturised have seed oils in it?!!
Our primary milk is Low-Vat pasteurized and available from local health food stores. Look for local producers who also grass feed they cows and don't charge an arm and a leg more over the conventional stuff. I like to spend up to 16500 - 20,000 Sats (~$10 - $12.12) a gallon for the high quality/cost sweet spot. I also like to use my Vitamix to blend my own home made nut milks with natural sweeteners mixed with erythritol and monk fruit. Delicious and creamy and no need to filter them. As far as I'm aware they're a healthier force of fat that's okay to eat. Let me know if I should think otherwise!
*grass feed their cows. *healthier source of fat.
Yeah - avoiding seed oils means cooking most of your food from the raw ingredients. What I find interesting is that some of the cheaper brands tend to use palm oil instead of soy or canola. Palm oil has a pretty good fatty acid profile & requires little processing. No wonder it has been demonized in the West.
When it comes to land use efficiency, Palm oil is the highest producer of healthy fruit oils per acre of land used. There's nothing more efficient for the fats needed for processed foods. I imagine since it's fruit oil like avocado, it's probably one of the healthiest of the low cost options as well.
It's a pretty cool plant. It's perennial so doesn't have to be replanted each season. There is the palm fruit oil which is red & full of flavenoids. This is the easiest to process & so a village can make their own oil. It also fetches a premium in health stores. There's also the kernel which is cracked & squeezed. This is the cheapest & hss a neutral flavor. Both contain almost 50% saturated fat IIRC.
Healthly diet changes can be so overwhelming for people. Just starting with the little things and making gradual change can have a huge impact over time. Like you said, low hanging fruit. Swapping out to whole foods rather than processed is a huge step.

What information am I missing about seed oils being particularly worth avoiding? what qualifies as a seed oil? Are fruit oils okay such as Avocado? What about coconut? Coconut is a seed is it not? Palm fruit vs Palm kernal oil? Are nut oils considered okay or seed oils? I'm genuinely wanting to know, I want to expand my awareness.
Seed oils require advanced processing techniques that have only been around for a few decades, a mere blip in the timeline of human evolution. Consuming seed oils introduces substances that our bodies are not well-equipped to handle. Additionally, seeds and nuts contain a high concentration of defense chemicals, which is therefore also found in their oils. While avocado and olive oils are generally considered healthier options, they are often blended with lower-quality oils, so it's important to choose high-quality varieties. Furthermore, avocado and olive oils typically include their seeds (such as the pits of olives and avocados), which may not be ideal either. Personally, I prefer using tallow, lard, butter, and ghee for cooking.
I wonder if the adulteration of olive oils depends on where you live? I don't think Italians would stand for it, so I buy good quality Italian EVOO. But bang on about seed oils. I use ghee, coconut and macadamia oil for frying generally..
General rule of thumb is to avoid oils that are highly processed and high in linoleic acid because it oxidizes easily which causes havoc in the body. Coconut is a good one, I think avocado too. Olive is fine, but you gotta be careful it's real, there's a lot of olive oils thar are diluted with soybeanoil.
eat to live not live to eat.
Likewise, I started out trying keto/low carb. I now find eliminating seed oils and highly processed grains, sugar work for me. Bit I don't want to be the awkward guy that nobody wants to invite, so if offered something on a visit I will happily take it.
Dropping seed oils, High Fructose Corn Syrup, and keeping my carbs below 100 grams per day has been so amazing. @jackspirko did a great episode on this and more over at The Survival Podcast, right before New Year 2024. https://www.thesurvivalpodcast.com/better-diet-24
