In which ways do you feel X serves you best? 

 I’m connected to my local community, something I can’t do on nostr yet, as there are only a few local st. louis residents on here 

 Good point. Onboarding friends to nostr still has a way to go :) but little by little they’ll come💜 

 I dont think nostr was ever meant to be some sort of safe space. And perhaps that's part of why theres less women here? (Aside from the whole bitcoin thing) 
Unless certain core principles are drastically changed i dont think itll ever "get there" because it wasn't ever meant to be.
In any case, Nostr is meant for freedom of speech and that invariably comes with certain drawbacks, such as the trolls.  

 Never did I say nostr was meant to be a  “safe space”, let’s start there. Twitter is 100% not a safe space, if you think that I’ve got a bridge to sell you 

 OK thats fair, but i was responding to your point that you cant reccomend nostr without being worried about trolls. what I'm saying is that nostr isn't free from trolls and I don't think it ever will be because it was never meant to be. 
Effective or not is another story but there isn't any active suppression of trolls by nostr clients unlike other centralized services. But is nostr worse than x in that regard? Genuinely asking because I'm not a woman and no longer on x.  

 I think nostr is hard for any non nym women who aren’t used to somewhere so small that they are easily targeted. My friends and I can talk all day publicly on twitter with no one giving a damn because of how big it is. 

 Nostr also doesn't have a very good DM system so that makes it even harder I'm sure.  

 I guess you could start a private relay for just you and your friends and exclude everyone else. That woild remove all trolls and bots. Tho that's a whole other technical hurdle and probably a pain in the ass to swap relays back and forth between public and private 

 especially for non tech girlies who just want to post silly things that people will take too seriously here and make fun of (happens to me everyday) 

 I just can’t in good faith get them on nostr, they’re not used to the bullshit like i am, and are sweet summer children who i strive to protect from the harsh world on small scale protocols. But then i feel bad, because i want nostr to grow, how can it grow without me showing it to friends? 

 I think individual clients can definitely “get there” 

 Are you recommending Nostr in general, or specific relays? A change in thinking / approach is probably required for Nostr.

 I get it. Some people lack the resources to stand against corruption. That is understandable. Maybe one day they will be strong enough emotionally. 

Many are just too selfish to fight for humanity. That’s been proven worldwide time & again.

 the muting and blocking functions on #Nostr clients are broken

 Contrairement à ce que l'on pense la mise en sourdine n'aide pas à faire évoluer la communication au contraire il faut juste savoir user des divers types de subtilités de la Communication. 

 I haven't been trolled on Nostr to any great degree. I didn't realize you were on Twitter though, I just followed you there.

 Yeah that's true I'm noticing that the replyguy mutes only when the profile loads as well, so while it's just an npub displayed my feed still shows them.

 You could just onboard them to theforest.nostr1.com.  I curate it by hand, so that it's a sane space, and nobody outside of it can read the notes.

Just give me their npubs, and I'll whitelist them. 

 yeah i sort of get this... twitter is so big that it has some fairly airtight bubbles, and at least with a small account, it can feel safer within one, because people there have some shared context and understanding
(sometimes posts escape a bubble and become dogpiling fodder and it goes very wrong, but still...)

here it feels very open, which makes it hard to talk about anything personal without it somehow being misinterpreted or taken out of context

dunno how this can change, but until then, inviting some of my friends here seems like a bad idea
