tl;dr for my pleebs
"Britain is still viewed as a desirable place to live, even if we worry about its decline. Restoring that greatness is what we should focus on."
"We’ve been pitted against each other as a distraction. But at the core, we all want the same things: less crime, lower taxes, and functioning public services. These are achievable goals, but only if we stop letting politicians divide us."
"The path forward must be one based on liberty and freedom. Every political decision should be evaluated by a simple question: 'Does this make people more free or less free?'"
and funny enough, your point about "does it increase freedom or reduce freedom", increasing freedom would fix a lot of shit (de-regulate, let people build shit).
🌧️ Rainy day in the UK so it's time for a random post. 🌧️
Property rights is an interesting topic because depending on who you ask, they have a different view about it. But it in some circumstances when asked a specific question, most would agree on a single answer.
For example:
Question - If one person in the world owned nearly everything in the world and everyone else owned nothing, does property rights make sense here?
Answer - Most would answer that it is unfair that the one person owned nearly all of the worlds economic resources and the others are left no ownership of any assets. Most would also answer that everyone else is being exploited largely for the benefit of the one individual who had ownership of everything in the world. Therefore, most would answer that there should be an equitable distribution of economic resources to those who have nothing. For simplicity lets say we are just talking about land and everything on that piece of land.
However, you have to ask many more questions before answering the above question if you want to answer it correctly.
For example:
1) Did that one person acquire ownership of everything by way of violence, theft and or fraud?
Or...
2) Was the ownership of assets acquired by way of trading value for value co-operatively?
If the former, then clearly there is no property rights in existence anyway. If the latter, you can argue that the individual provided something of value to have such a level of ownership of the worlds economic resources. Therefore, property rights does make sense and the normie answer above is incorrect. This is because the acquisition of resources was conducted in an ethical and moral manner which means that the resulting distribution in resources is fair.
Now someone will argue that anyone who has amassed such a high level of ownership of the worlds economic resources has likely in some way shape or form directly or indirectly benefited from violence, theft and/or fraud. Therefore, the person who owns absolutely nothing will argue that they should be granted an equitable distribution of economic resources because that one person made partial economic gains through unethical and immoral means.
The person who owns nothing is not necessarily arguing against property rights, but he/she is actually arguing for justice or a system of justice.
Justice is another large topic to discuss and but it is relevant to the matter.
For simplicity however, I think you have to draw a line in the sand decide whether you want to move ahead or stay behind. Meaning...
1) Do you want to move forward in a way which is respectful of someone else's property and your own property?
Or...
2) Do you want go backwards and entertain violence, theft and or fraud?
Are there any good books about this topic that anyone can recommend❓ #asknostr #books
Shitty twitter still hasn't responded to my request to unban my account.
So much for being able to use twitter with a new account that uses a VPN.

Making a little bit more progress on the orangepowthing! I cut some more wood to the right size, only a few pieces today.
Building physical things at a nice slow/medium pace is quite meditative, especially with the sun shining ☀️ and the wind blowing 💨 . Physically tiring but still nice to do 😄
#buidl
Does anyone have any tips or tutorials on how to setup which relays to use for maximum reliability and reach?
Maybe a youtube link or a link to a blog?
Thanks!
I never thought it could be so long and tedious to cut some wood properly 😆 But today, some wood was finally cut!
https://image.nostr.build/5cbfab25e9034018fe32e8b07b292d14a984eb0357ef64987481df72a4b86475.pnghttps://image.nostr.build/9009774e55645cb6d6cf48414cb274da4b2207e8818c656a25aa26cd5a83f758.png
I borrowed some tools (well everything) to do the cuts. Just basic tools, nothing super professional... Yet, it was enough to get some reasonable cuts.
I used a bunch of things:
1) Circular Saw
2) Two tables to balance the wood
3) A couple of clamps to clamp the wood to the table
4) Measuring tape and a pencil
5) Some scrap straight wood as a cutting guide rail
6) Safety Goggles
7) No mask because I want the wood particles in my lungs (joke)
8) Straight edge thing to draw lines
9) Youtube to learn the tips and tricks to cut things and not body parts accidentally; links below (because it is my first time doing this stuff)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7QOhRRlr6Ahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPz1orpvbyI&t=91s
10) One time assistance from someone who knows how to use the circular saw safely
I had some issues, some wood splintering off the edges where it was cut, missing the cut lines etc. but nothing too bad that it can't be fixed or at least attempted again.
I only managed to cut a few pieces today because this was my first time getting everything organised and getting educated on how to do this properly. I should be faster next time round and I hope in a few days I can get almost everything cut. 🥈
I managed to pick up some pieces of wood for a reasonable price which are nice and light yet very sturdy due the special inner material. Not sure if I will apply the finishing to these pieces of wood or if I should get some nice already finished pieces of thin wood and just glue it on the frame. 🤔 Either way, it needs to look good and look good in orange.

@Alby
If I use Umbrel and download Alby Hub on it, does Alby Hub run through TOR, or would it leak your I.P address?
or is it better to download Alby Hub on Windows and route it through a VPN?
I guess if my Bitcoin/LND node is running on TOR, then Alby will also use TOR as well which is what you are saying I think.
What is NWC? I never heard of it.
Last two weeks have been wild, and not in a good way (family death, me getting sick and busy with work)... 😞
I have not made any progress on the orange project over the past two weeks!
But the show must go on and I'll be posting up all the final designs right here and right now. LFG 🔥
Nearly done on the design update posts and it should be time to start building soon. 🏚️
Feels like I've done 80% of the planning/design work which is enough IMO and I should start building slowly.
Will post another update soon!
Just replaced the fans on this bad boy and using it to heat up the house since it's chilly in the UK.
Under-clocked it so it runs quieter at 56 decibels vs the usual 76 decibels when it run fast and hot.
If you can correctly guess the model of this machine, I will send you 21 sats (first 3 people only).
https://video.nostr.build/8af6afe02b47f31d816a68ecc153db41d9e4a90fd8274151e4e20791077dcfc9.mp4
Next up I thought a little bit about how I could make the outside look #sexy. I felt like #orange was the way to go, and I like black, so orange and black it is.
https://image.nostr.build/62ddfb8f33a680f88acfed155c725b10872be21e4ebf449a32cd731f708ba297.png
But after visualising how nice it would look on the outside, I realised it would look like trash with tentacles hanging outside of the structure.
SO AT THAT VERY MOMENT I HAD A MID LIFE ORANGEPOWTHING DESIGN CRISIS... so I spent another day or two pondering about what I wanted to make... and then BOOM, it came to me.
1) I don't want to have a fucking pipe dangling around the house
2) If I'm going to make something, it better look #sexy
3) I like coffee
4) So I finally settled on what I wanted to make... It will be a bitcoin miner / space heater / coffee table / artwork.
This is a 4 in 1 project. I'm happy with this idea. This means I need to redesign everything... again... lol
#mining #antminer #btc #bitcoin #woodworking #fans #insulation #soundproofing #design
This was the point where I figured out what I wanted to make and why I wanted to make it.

If you saw an earlier post you will know that I am currently towards to end of the design phase and should begin building soon 😀.
Before I post pictures of my final design, I wanted to showcase all of my initial design ideas.
Below is my very first design idea for this orange P.O.W thing!
https://image.nostr.build/c06a5897892771cc1686c60f45aea6d96422437eff6f71e624d5e8eafb805cc1.png
I saw a bunch of design ideas on YouTube to get some inspiration. For example, I saw how this guy was dragging around his box to different rooms. Timestamp 5:00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_PNiqIOjVA
So I thought you could add some wheels to make it easier and then reduce the noise further from the intake fans by adding another box to the back.
The box at the back has two additional large (quiet) fans at the top to help with airflow/pressure. That air travels down and around two shelves as indicated by the green lines showing the air flow direction. That air goes into the main box with the miner and meets two additional fans (40-50 decibels). The air goes out through the miner and out through the hot air vent. Like in the video the idea was to made a really long pipe so you could choose which area that you wanted to heat up. The additional fans increase the air pressure and let the air travel further along the pipe.
#mining #btc #bitcoin #woodworking #fans #heating
Having figured out what I wanted to make and why... I settled on the idea that this orangepowthing would have 3 internal compartments.
1) One for additional fans and cold air intake
2) One for the miner to dampen the noise
3) One for the hot air vents
I figured I should put two smaller holes on each side so it's a little bit less likely for the noise to seep out VS. a single big hole at the front and the back.
I also thought about the finish on the outside. https://image.nostr.build/3e5d7af04233d886860216a6db283f0ed1995de700762ff29ac446a87eb8ed4e.png

I'm using power point presentation to make all these drawings BTW!
Shout out to the professional #graphicdesigners, you got nothing on my mad ppt skills.
Once you figured out the size of each piece of material you need, you can make small scaled models in powerpoint (see picture) which show you if have enough material to get the cuts you want. (example - blue is the raw material / yellow is the cut you want).

#wood #woodworking #withbillgates
By this point I'm starting to feel the final product/design and came up with this birds eye view of the inside (with the top off).
There are 3 internal compartments. One for cold air coming in, one for the miner to absorb sound, one for the hot air outflow.
I decided that I did not want the fans attached near the outside of the case. Prefer to not see the fans from the outside, so they will all be tucked inside the compartment.
Brown lines in the picture are the additional fans.
Orange rectangle in the middle is the miner.
The first two fans at the back will be slightly bigger fans maybe 160mm - 200mm in size.
The other two fans near the miner intake will be maybe 140mm - 160mm in size and stacked vertically.
So towards the left, you have the bigger fans with lower RPM because it is near the hole where sound can leak out. Bigger fans are generally quieter (assuming the same RPM as a smaller fan). Then in the middle is a slightly smaller higher RPM fan which is deeper in the box. Then you have the 120mm loud 6k RPM ear chewing fans from the miner deep in the middle of the box.
The blue triangles are extra internal walls to help direct the airflow and the fans are angled to assist airflow direction.
https://image.nostr.build/8f8999384ee26309f3b286738fe63125053a5fa733db9bc02a074ede54fe32c5.png
Cleaned up the drawing from the last post and added some angled internal walls instead of a straight wall (near the left of the miner)
The items in the picture are not to scale. I was trying to get a feel for the internal design and how big I wanted the whole thing to be.
https://image.nostr.build/724b66369cc41c402ba74494f4e88e72ec24c32617be5bc4127e1fac3f078608.png

We are getting very close to the final design now with only some small tweaks ahead! 😅 😌 (Picture attached is a birds eye view with the top off)
This picture is mostly to scale... (note: the miner and the fan attachment is slightly not to scale, though it is close)
1) Greyish/black thick lines are the walls. Will be keeping all the walls straight to keep it simple.
2) Light blue thick lines are the internal soundproofing/heatproofing materials.
3) Dark black thick lines are the big fans at the back (you can see two).
4) The brown thick line is the two vertical stacked fans which are smaller and higher max RPM than the big black fans.
5) Cool air through the holes in the left (marked green), air goes through the fans, into the miner and out through the holes on the right (marked red).
https://image.nostr.build/3a0619af9768eff451550613b77e23a39fde159587de8078f8d456f1f27514f2.png
#mining #antminer #btc #bitcoin #woodworking #fans #insulation #soundproof #heatproof #design
I thought about a new design idea but scrapped it after about 30 minutes of thinking about it.
Even though it looks interesting and would help a lot with the soundproofing, the internal build would be complicated for me. The maintenance would probably be more difficult if something needed to be fixed.
So in the image below, the idea was to have the miner angled slightly and have the internal air flow in an S shape for the intake and the exhaust. Sounds nice, but slightly complicated. Pass.
https://image.nostr.build/7ffabbe3bf666e1f5f4646845712023342569a185f9d712d6a7f73f3e5e8f3bd.png
#mining #antminer #btc #bitcoin #woodworking #fans #insulation #soundproof #heatproof #design
Building on my design post 18 days ago. I decided on adding some ducting to help keep the hot air contained and forced out rather than having the warm air build up the internal compartment (right side of unit). It's also much easier to use ducting here than trying to build a custom internal unit! I'll need a Y ducting piece for this, can buy one or can easily make it with existing materials in the garage. This contrasts to the cold air section (left side of unit) where there is no ducting, just maximum room for air to flow in.
I thought about how big to make the airflow holes on the visible outside of the unit. I also thought about how it can be finished and what type of soundproof padding to use near it to make it look nice.
https://image.nostr.build/baa01ca9d25e53bb95ff2ebb24d566f5332f7c38fa782333b9e840b34db28fa1.png

With this design update everything is slowly coming to together and is being built more to scale.
The unit is slightly wider than the prior design image so it now has a similar size to a coffee table.
I decided to flatten the inner triangle shaped brown wall on the left side of the unit and pushed the black intake fans closer to the outside wall. I resized and shaped the soundproof/heatproof padding near the miner intake and exhaust.
https://image.nostr.build/bdf95c1d15fcd0a4f6d58bf8f019163718fd203b6a8031129d672a9d45b16584.png
#mining #antminer #btc #bitcoin #woodworking #fans #insulation #soundproof #heatproof #design
Something new now, a side shot of the unit to scale.
Originally the 200mm exits holes looked way to big, so I resized them down to 150mm in this picture (green and red square). There is not much space for soundproofing material above and below the miner but it should be fine as I am looking to use thin wood and sandwich some soundproof material in the middle of the wood (the black exterior walls in the picture).
The brown line are extra fans and the black angled square is also an extra fan (4 additional fans I am thinking of adding in).

#mining #antminer #btc #bitcoin #woodworking #fans #insulation #soundproof #heatproof #design
Back to the birds eye view of the unit. Small changes here.
1) Removed the brown angled inner wall, no real need I think. I thought it would help direct the airflow but probably not necessary.
2) The holes on the exterior walls have been resized down to 150mm from 200mm with inner padding removed
https://image.nostr.build/e7cfc29636572ed22d81d888b23c5ff7385c0ac3c58a1a617f9277dad542dc7f.png
#mining #antminer #btc #bitcoin #woodworking #fans #insulation #soundproof #heatproof #design
These are the final two design images with no further changes to be made. 😃 Bird eye view and the side view.
The miner and fan adapter was updated to be more true to scale.
I decided to use only 1 brown fan instead of 2 near the miner intake because of space issues. So only 3 additional fans in total.
I might be missing a few things but 90% of the design planning is done. It's best to start getting the materials ready and cutting everything to size now before winter really kicks in!
