Next up I thought a little bit about how I could make the outside look #sexy. I felt like #orange was the way to go, and I like black, so orange and black it is.

But after visualising how nice it would look on the outside, I realised it would look like trash with tentacles hanging outside of the structure.
SO AT THAT VERY MOMENT I HAD A MID LIFE ORANGEPOWTHING DESIGN CRISIS... so I spent another day or two pondering about what I wanted to make... and then BOOM, it came to me.
1) I don't want to have a fucking pipe dangling around the house
2) If I'm going to make something, it better look #sexy
3) I like coffee
4) So I finally settled on what I wanted to make... It will be a bitcoin miner / space heater / coffee table / artwork.
This is a 4 in 1 project. I'm happy with this idea. This means I need to redesign everything... again... lol

This was the point where I figured out what I wanted to make and why I wanted to make it.

Having figured out what I wanted to make and why... I settled on the idea that this orangepowthing would have 3 internal compartments.
1) One for additional fans and cold air intake
2) One for the miner to dampen the noise
3) One for the hot air vents
I figured I should put two smaller holes on each side so it's a little bit less likely for the noise to seep out VS. a single big hole at the front and the back.
I also thought about the finish on the outside. https://image.nostr.build/3e5d7af04233d886860216a6db283f0ed1995de700762ff29ac446a87eb8ed4e.png

I'm using power point presentation to make all these drawings BTW!
Shout out to the professional #graphicdesigners, you got nothing on my mad ppt skills.
Once you figured out the size of each piece of material you need, you can make small scaled models in powerpoint (see picture) which show you if have enough material to get the cuts you want. (example - blue is the raw material / yellow is the cut you want).

Next up, I was trying to get a feel of what the hole cut outs would look like on the outside and on the inside. Made it all to scale. First two pictures are the internal walls.
I was also thinking about:
1) How to attach the fans
2) If the fans should be visible or not (or partly visible) from the outside
3) If I should leave space around the extra internal fans for additional airflow if I want to run the miner at full speed (because the extra fans that I add in will be slower and bigger with less airflow (to keep things quiet) VS the miner fans which are very loud small with high airflow)

By this point I'm starting to feel the final product/design and came up with this birds eye view of the inside (with the top off).
There are 3 internal compartments. One for cold air coming in, one for the miner to absorb sound, one for the hot air outflow.
I decided that I did not want the fans attached near the outside of the case. Prefer to not see the fans from the outside, so they will all be tucked inside the compartment.
Brown lines in the picture are the additional fans.
Orange rectangle in the middle is the miner.
The first two fans at the back will be slightly bigger fans maybe 160mm - 200mm in size.
The other two fans near the miner intake will be maybe 140mm - 160mm in size and stacked vertically.
So towards the left, you have the bigger fans with lower RPM because it is near the hole where sound can leak out. Bigger fans are generally quieter (assuming the same RPM as a smaller fan). Then in the middle is a slightly smaller higher RPM fan which is deeper in the box. Then you have the 120mm loud 6k RPM ear chewing fans from the miner deep in the middle of the box.
The blue triangles are extra internal walls to help direct the airflow and the fans are angled to assist airflow direction.

Cleaned up the drawing from the last post and added some angled internal walls instead of a straight wall (near the left of the miner)
The items in the picture are not to scale. I was trying to get a feel for the internal design and how big I wanted the whole thing to be.

We are getting very close to the final design now with only some small tweaks ahead! 😅 😌 (Picture attached is a birds eye view with the top off)
This picture is mostly to scale... (note: the miner and the fan attachment is slightly not to scale, though it is close)
1) Greyish/black thick lines are the walls. Will be keeping all the walls straight to keep it simple.
2) Light blue thick lines are the internal soundproofing/heatproofing materials.
3) Dark black thick lines are the big fans at the back (you can see two).
4) The brown thick line is the two vertical stacked fans which are smaller and higher max RPM than the big black fans.
5) Cool air through the holes in the left (marked green), air goes through the fans, into the miner and out through the holes on the right (marked red).

I thought about a new design idea but scrapped it after about 30 minutes of thinking about it.
Even though it looks interesting and would help a lot with the soundproofing, the internal build would be complicated for me. The maintenance would probably be more difficult if something needed to be fixed.
So in the image below, the idea was to have the miner angled slightly and have the internal air flow in an S shape for the intake and the exhaust. Sounds nice, but slightly complicated. Pass.

Building on my design post 18 days ago. I decided on adding some ducting to help keep the hot air contained and forced out rather than having the warm air build up the internal compartment (right side of unit). It's also much easier to use ducting here than trying to build a custom internal unit! I'll need a Y ducting piece for this, can buy one or can easily make it with existing materials in the garage. This contrasts to the cold air section (left side of unit) where there is no ducting, just maximum room for air to flow in.
I thought about how big to make the airflow holes on the visible outside of the unit. I also thought about how it can be finished and what type of soundproof padding to use near it to make it look nice.

With this design update everything is slowly coming to together and is being built more to scale.
The unit is slightly wider than the prior design image so it now has a similar size to a coffee table.
I decided to flatten the inner triangle shaped brown wall on the left side of the unit and pushed the black intake fans closer to the outside wall. I resized and shaped the soundproof/heatproof padding near the miner intake and exhaust.

Something new now, a side shot of the unit to scale.
Originally the 200mm exits holes looked way to big, so I resized them down to 150mm in this picture (green and red square). There is not much space for soundproofing material above and below the miner but it should be fine as I am looking to use thin wood and sandwich some soundproof material in the middle of the wood (the black exterior walls in the picture).
The brown line are extra fans and the black angled square is also an extra fan (4 additional fans I am thinking of adding in).

Back to the birds eye view of the unit. Small changes here.
1) Removed the brown angled inner wall, no real need I think. I thought it would help direct the airflow but probably not necessary.
2) The holes on the exterior walls have been resized down to 150mm from 200mm with inner padding removed
