 We'll know if Russia is behind Palestine's attack soon enough. Tucker and Gaetz will make it clear.
 Hearing about Israel this morning, and I don't have the energy in me right now except to say that...

This fast-tracked it.

And he has appear.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gives his first public statement on the massive attack by the Hamas terror group, saying the country is at war.

“Citizens of Israel, we are at war,” he says. “And we will win.”
 With Israel under attack by Hamas terrorists for over 3.5 hours, there has been no public statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the situation, beyond the announcement that the security cabinet will convene at 1 p.m.

And I'm reading some reports that reservists are being called up, but the reservists were going to go on a mini-strike to protest some of the judiciary changes.
 "Even as Israel’s political chiefs began to convene in emergency consultations, with the full extent of the infiltration and its consequences still unfolding, Hebrew media began quoting unnamed officials castigating the political and military echelons for the fact that Israel, preoccupied with internal argument, had again been taken by surprise."

 Trump on becoming Speaker:

"But on his Truth Social platform on Thursday, he pledged to "do whatever is necessary to help".

In an interview with Fox News, he added that he would accept the role short-term to serve "as a unifier" until Republicans can find a longer-term option."

He's a unifier. Isn't that the word that comes to mind when you think of him?

 Nancy Mace's I Am a Victim Because of My Vote Against McCarthy interview with Kaitlan Collins is something.

Summarizing it: She's a victim. And she is lonely. And she won't have any money coming in.

She's a lonely, broke victim.

Being quite serious, something is really off with Nancy Mace.

I don't know that much about her, so I did some searching. Did some searching and found she was victimized as a teen.

Then I found an article about the McCarthy vote.

“But it’s always been a mixed bag for Representative Mace. I think that’s reflective of her trying to balance herself with her district,” Cowart said.

Mixed bag is right. She ended up on Steve Bannon's show last night with Gaetz.

"Gaetz called Mace a “maverick.” Mace asked Bannon’s viewers for help.

“Because they’re coming after me,” she said before directing them to her campaign website."

Nancy Mace is in trouble. I don't mean political trouble. Something's not right.

 "Right off the bat, it’s important to emphasize that McCarthy was a poor House speaker, and that’s not something he can blame on the minority conference."

That is the one of the talking points that Democrats should be using. Kevin McCarthy was a poor House speaker.

 You need us, you f-king idiot!

Not sure which Democrat this was, but they are my favorite.

"The party is still smarting that McCarthy refused their pleas to give Democrats a mere 90 minutes to read the CR text on Saturday. And they were downright disgusted to see McCarthy blame their party for the shutdown brinkmanship on “Face the Nation” yesterday, just hours after they put up votes to help him pass the CR.

“It was an astonishing show of bad faith,” one senior Democratic aide told us. “The dumbest political move I’ve seen in a long time,” one Democratic lawmaker agreed. “You need us, you f—king idiot!”"

 And to think that of all of them, it is Josh Hawley that I hate most.
 "Gaetz, the man who started it all, has no plan whatsoever.

And House Republicans are over it.

'I think Matt Gaetz is a disgraceful human being," Matt Lawler told reporters Wednesday. 'I think he has certainly alienated lots of people left and right.'"

People left and right? Yes, Gaetz alienated the left, but that occurred a long time ago.

The only thing they resist is being irrelevant.
 One of the most important things about Mastodon and the fediverse is that we do not have the large narrative-skewing accounts creating the story of the day.

I see the purpose in pushing out a narrative that counters the crazy that is the GOP; however, the downside to this is that it narrows the conversation and hampers our ability to truly understand the complexities of the issues that impact us.

Talking points are not solutions.

 "In the wake of the historic ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., as House speaker, there is growing intrigue around whether former President Donald Trump supported the move.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., led the push, which succeeded when eight Republicans joined with all 208 Democrats to boot McCarthy.

After the vote, Gaetz spoke with reporters and suggested that he had the backing of Trump.

“My conversations with the former president leave me with great confidence that I did the right thing,” Gaetz said."

 My prediction for 2028 is Newsom and Hawley.

I may be bashing Newsom right now, but if he goes up against my most favorite, it will be all Hawley bashing all the time.

Although DeSantis is showing signs of life. I really thought he'd get the loser label and be out of contention in 2028. Sort of go the way of everyone's Most Not Favorite, Ted Cruz.
 The Newsom shrug: Well, I said it, but I didn't really think Feinstein would die.

"On Monday, Newsom said the comment had been a 'hypothetical on top of a hypothetical' because he didn’t expect Feinstein to die in office.

'With grace, I walked into it by saying I didn’t want to get in the middle of the primary,' Newsom said. 'I said what I said. That’s rearview mirror stuff right now.'"

She will change her voter registration today.

And Butler's impact on the campaigns of Lee, Porter, and Schiff will remain. I'm hoping Newsom and Butler address the 2024 election soon.
 Republicans are attacking Newsom's appointment of Butler by going after her residency, which is Maryland.

It is hard to say that they are using this to actually target her because of race, gender, and sexual orientation, which they are, because she clearly is registered to vote in Maryland.

And there are California Democrats and Republicans that have concerns that Newsom has stripped CA of the ability to choose its junior Senator. This is because Newsom's office has said there are no restrictions on his appointment running for the office in 2024.

A lot of talk on X-Twitter when 2024 is brought up. People are relying on Newsom's past comments about appointing a caretaker. That is not the case. He stepped back from that restriction.

Newsom and Butler should - in my unprofessional opinion - be transparent about 2024. Will she run or not?

Shut down speculation about 2024 and the Maryland issue is diminished considerably.

 @3fe52772

Thanksgiving has become a favorite. Never when I was a kid, but definitely as an adult.

About 14 years ago, I took over hosting duties, and each year we downsize things a bit. (Well, we REALLY downsized in 2020, but two subsequent ones have been simpler.)

Here are my whys:

I have beautiful linens, and using them reminds me of my grandmother. She was a Sunday dinner kind of German grandma, and she used tablecloths every week.

I realized that since we really only like the ham, there was no need to make turkey. We make twice as much ham, and we are happy.

My mom is so grateful that she doesn't have to clean her house to host that she foots the bill for the really good hams.

My husband and I only have my family in attendance. And by hosting our own Thanksgiving, we don't need to deal with his family. And for that, I am most thankful.

And I'm sure reflection on gratitude and family bonding and other stuff like that.

 @b870d4c8

Let me check something...I'm not certain she can run for both Senate and and Congress in the same election. If she can't, she is vacating the Congressional seat.
 "But with more than a year left in Feinstein’s term, Newsom will need to appoint someone to take her place — a freighted decision that’s certain to alienate people.

Newsom has committed to appointing a Black woman if he got a second Senate appointment, but he recently said that if Feinstein did not complete her term he would select an interim replacement rather than Rep. Barbara Lee, the only Black woman who is running for Feinstein’s seat. Lee excoriated Newsom over those comments."

https://www.politico.com/news/2023/09/29/gavin-newsom-feinstein-replacement-00119043#:~:text=Newsom%20had%20committed%20at%20one,is%20running%20for%20Feinstein's%20seat.
 OK, now...

Who does Newsom appoint? Schiff, Porter, or Lee? Or does he go with someone who promises not to run against those three in 2024 and let voters decide?

Barbara Boxer should be appointed. That is my unprofessional opinion.
 The Yoel Roth-Linda Yaccarino Showdown episode of On with Kara Swisher just dropped.

I'm sure that I will have thoughts.

 @a763f0a6

in the early 1980's, my dad was working in downtown SF when his company brought in an emergency preparedness coach. The employees were told to have a good pair of walking shoes in their desk as the streets would be covered in glass and no transportation in the city would be available for days - walking would be the only way out. They were also told that they should have rolls and rolls of toilet paper as it would be used to barter goods.

He died a few years later. We received his hiking boots when his coworkers cleaned out his desk.

When the pandemic hit, my mother had her stash of 40 rolls.

 @420f26f4

Ah, I have not read any of the comics, so I knew nothing about Jane's transformation to Mighty Thor. And the movie did not fill in those gaps. I was puzzled.

I agree that the wrong lessons were taken from Ragnarok. Humor and a great soundtrack were part of what made Ragnarok special, but it also had a lot to do with the script and the actors.

Maybe it has something to do with Tom Hiddleston not being in this one, too. He and Hemsworth really play off of one another well.
 @420f26f4

The Thor movies are my favorites, and Ragnarok is my favorite Avenger movie. Everything about it is perfect.

So, with that said, I was a bit disappointed in Love and Thunder.

I thought the villain was really good, but there were some clunker moments.
 @420f26f4

And Valkyrie is one of my favorites. I love her, and she was kind of bland in Love and Thunder. She kept New Asgard going after The Snap, but the whole tourist trap thing in Love and Thunder was odd.

We watched Ragnarok last night, and I realized that my redesign of my living room is basically one of her outfits.

 This is the second article today that has mentioned Mastodon, and not in a horribly dismissive way. Hmm...

The focus of the article is on Threads' failings, which Instagram chief Adam Mosseri acknowledged. They relied too much on Instagram and missed the mark completely as to what a Twitter alternative needed to be.

"On Instagram, people are more likely to follow brands, engage with memes, follow celebrities, etc. On Threads, which is more like X, you’re more likely to want to follow professional industry profiles and influencers, or people who post good text-based content, as opposed to cool images and video."

Threads engaged with admins on Mastodon. How the hell did they not understand that an alternative would be based on good content rather than corporate brands?

https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/meta-says-threads-engagement-lower-would-like-contines-build-app/694560/
 The following post is submitted under the Worthless Clause. The only value is bashing billionaire boys.

We know that the Threads team was asking questions about Mastodon and the fediverse. And yet, they seem to have learned very little about building out alternatives to Twitter.

It's like a bad second date. The first was great, and you think that you have a lot in common. And then during the second date, the person morphs into someone else. Why go through the motions of pretending to be one thing, when you really just want to insist on being something else?

Threads is built solely on Instagram, and that is not enough to become the Twitter alternative.

“The path to 1 billion Threads users is longer than Meta would like,” Jasmine Enberg, principal analyst at Insider, says in the report. “The link to Instagram can only take Threads so far, and the clock is ticking for the network effect to take hold.”

That's Matt Walsh's belief.

But there are women championing it, too. Best way to stay out of a First Wives club is to make sure he never has the opportunity to get a second wife.

Having practiced Family Law, I get bitter divorces. But the overwhelming majority of divorces are ones in which both parties agree to end their marriage.
 It's behind a paywall, so I can't see it, but The Atlantic has a story about states rolling back divorce laws.

No-fault divorce is the next target. The narrative will be that it victimizes the innocent spouse, and it is racist as it harms vulnerable communities.

What is going to happen over the next month should decide whether X-Twitter will remain the platform in which they continue to give their rationalized loyalty.
