@3fe52772 Thanksgiving has become a favorite. Never when I was a kid, but definitely as an adult. About 14 years ago, I took over hosting duties, and each year we downsize things a bit. (Well, we REALLY downsized in 2020, but two subsequent ones have been simpler.) Here are my whys: I have beautiful linens, and using them reminds me of my grandmother. She was a Sunday dinner kind of German grandma, and she used tablecloths every week. I realized that since we really only like the ham, there was no need to make turkey. We make twice as much ham, and we are happy. My mom is so grateful that she doesn't have to clean her house to host that she foots the bill for the really good hams. My husband and I only have my family in attendance. And by hosting our own Thanksgiving, we don't need to deal with his family. And for that, I am most thankful. And I'm sure reflection on gratitude and family bonding and other stuff like that.
