@LostInCalifornia Grenfell fire. People died because of institutional mistakes, and actual neglect, it just brings out the "sounds about right" in the people at the bottom, emotional response to someone saying it's happening again somewhere else.
You can hate Hayton. no-one can stop you. You can object, on reasonable grounds, to AGP in a specific job that includes a power imbalance. And you can be epically disappointed that others don't agree with you.
but this seems way out of hand.

It seems to me that people, the women in this, are just as guilty as those (often men) in other movements of factionalism, and wanting to join something just for a fight. I don't think any group on any issue is free of that. People are tired, there is a degree of brain inflammation (seriously) abroad in society, tempers are frayed. Self awareness is low. Valid points get lost. And arguments become diminished.
Large family question - food sharing/guzzling. @Wise Penny
My dad was one of 9, he was in the middle of the bottom half, born in 1928. working class family, plenty there was not. At home when I was a child whenever there was a pack of something - like cakes or chocolates, biscuits, he'd guzzle the lot. and not even seem to enjoy it that much. In order for us to get a share, or just not finish the pack in one go we'd have to hide it. I heard this from others who had parents born in that era. But also from people who came from large families. If you didn't eat/grab fast you weren't getting any because your other siblings (maybe more so boys?) would eat your share.
So is this a thing. Is this a large family thing. Is this a 'from the age of poverty' thing.
???
@Caffosaurus☕🍁:mayo: they go on about "watercolour mediums" which seems to mean bottles of stuff that aren't paint, masking fluid, gum arabic, lifting preparation, etc - looks smelly and or revolting. I'll stick with paint.
however "Watercolour Mediums" would be handy for looking into a crystal ball and telling you when that'll be dry *enough* and what you should splodge next. no?
@Caffosaurus☕🍁:mayo: well I've checked the price of the cobalt blue $15 - which is £8.35, so same as here roughly. which doesn't explain why W&N want £13 for theirs!
@Caffosaurus☕🍁:mayo: I looked at their paper, I wouldn't bother. The RS is worth considering, but only after you've checked the postage on getting it from Jacksons. It looks WAY expensive compared to what we are paying. I think they might be shipping it from Poland with the pans in their own passenger seats.
@Caffosaurus☕🍁:mayo: Jackson's have RS on a slight discount but the full price for a full pan of Cobalt Blue PB28 (one of the more expensive pigments by everyone) is £8.30, same size by W&N is £15.75. This is why RS is so popular - but they have not yet moved into tubes. I'm happy for the pans, so it suits me.
Papers you say.... Saunders Waterford High White NOT 300gsm for less than a kidney?
@Caffosaurus☕🍁:mayo: now you in trouble.
1. they do half pans, but most colours are in full pans - which take up a lot of room.
2. the paper sticks to the top of the paint when you unwrap them, you have to put them in the freezer for 10-15mins and then out in the room for 5 min before unpeeling.
2a. newly frozen paint doesn't rewet very well - duh.
3. some of them are sticky, some of them are hard to rewet - but I think that's true of everyone
4. is it well priced compared to BigChoobs? Because it is here, Jacksons.
5. oh dear
PSA there's an add-on for Firefox called Control Panel for Twitter.
and it does all kinds of cool stuff, lots of settings in the options tab in your add-ons after it's installed. It removes the X branding and replaces with bluebirds. and it can get rid of the For You tab by hiding it and defaulting to Following. All kinds of useful and nice to look at things.
Probably just me that uses Twitter in browser, but I tripped over it and it's nice.
@LostInCalifornia as I say though it chimes true to the underclass other places, even those with no interest in Trump. This keeps it traveling. We are treated as expendable. (I say we, because although I'm warm, dry, fed, and not in debt, I have unmet needs and as a disabled woman feel fear of govt policies)
As for the stopping volunteers, some untrained guy with a tractor wanting to pull trees, I can see him not understanding the order if things and getting in the way, bit like Musk and his bloody submarine.

@354d8064@LostInCalifornia@Flick 🇬🇧 that sounds familiar re. PPE procurement in UK.
Also ATOS Capita for benefits assessments.
And Serco to (not) get prisoners to court, and G4S for Olympics.....
