 I've just started watching. Only just recently found this channel. They interviewed Nick Land the other day which was interesting. But missed the previous 7 hours of this stream lol.

 Sometimes it's hard to tell what with relay set up and amethyst tor, but it does seem quieter than usual. Tbf my twitter lurking account is also quieter than usual too.

 The feed has always kind of felt like a developers' chatroom with a smattering some other people (like me) posting off-topic lol 

 Nah, there's still good accounts there. I follow about 200 people, so it's actually quite nice to use. All caught up in a 15min sitting. 

 15 minute is actually very long, it's probably more like 3 minutes.  

 Nitter doesn't work any more afaik.

I would love to just make an RSS of 5 or so twitter accounts and feed it to here

 Yeah, there's quite a big scene of zines and chap books and art stuff etc. There are several fairs for this in the UK. 

 Frieze, the biggest one has just ended. But it's notoriously pretty horrific lol. Art Basel, Switzerland might be better.

Nostr lacks any communities or topics really. Besides bitcoin, arguable Meshtastic/radio and permaculture. I think this is a problem for a lot of twitter alts (I know nostr is trying to be more than that, as a protocol). 

 I mostly agree, although it is predominantly libertarians here. The right/conservative are mostly on twitter and don't care about / never heard of Nostr, or also find it too much of a libertarian and bitcoin echo chamber. 

 I think Openvibe app would work for this. Not used it myself tho. 

 I was under the impression it posted to Bluesky, nostr and mastodon (and threads  is in the pipeline) all as proper unbridged. But I really don't know. Hmmmm.

 Yes, I asked this a long time ago and the issue of 'success' came up. I think someone argued nostr was already a success because it functions, I don't think that seems right. Another version of success was that someone felt they personally had some benefit from Nostr. I also don't think that would count.

I think success wouldn't have to be being twitter-killer or anything. But it is sort of a matter of user numbers really. And I don't think it would have to be the same numbers as twitter or anything. I think I would say... Whatever user numbers matrix or substack has, wide(r)spread interest.

It's not an exact science lol.

I think eventually projects either do succeed or fail. Like that twitter alt called Ello (or any number of them). We can pretty much safely say that did not succeed, right? 🤔 

 It seems like you do need to reach some sort of threshold of user numbers / appeal. (Doesn't have to be mass-appeal). Otherwise things do tend to wind down, understandably.

It is also possible that perhaps things wind down, geidm to a halt. Remain dormant and then re-emerge much later, taken up by other people. Perhaps ...LESS BURDENED by the dominant user group that caused the stagnation and winding down. That's just one possibility maybe ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

 I would guess the crowd who left for Bluesky are mostly back on twitter(?) 

 That's pretty good for bs, I think bluesky has less of a struggle with retention rates than nostr for sure. 

 I'm totally tech illiterate and don't really understand either protocol tbh lol. I'm a total casual idiot user.

Culturally I think bluesky and nostr do suffer from fairly strong embedded user groups. Nostr is obviously bitcointwitter rubbish -heavy and bluesky has a lot of LeftTwitter2010s vibes. Both can be quite repellent to users outside of those groups (by accident or on purpose, a bit of both maybe). Bluesky has sort of broken out somewhat. 

I think it's a bit of a problem still for both, moreso perhaps nostr which is much smaller as a userbase and topic-breadth or something. They both do kind of have bad reputations outside of their bubbles, and can be unwelcoming in different ways.

I'm not sure how either succeed long-term tbh. Will be interesting to see, or what comes next. Or if it's just even more balkanised social media protocols lol ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

I believe one of the issues nostr people have with 'corporation bad' Bluesky, is that it is a central point failure maybe? How is bluesky sustainable? I have no idea tbh 🤔

 I use nostr/amethyst as a pretty decent RSS reader (see guide below, if anyone reading this is interested). I have an RSS list, and sublists of categories.

There's now lots of RSS readers. Newsblur is a popular and open source one.

 I know what you mean. There's a lot of people who use nostr like this / despite this. When the price of bitcoin changes it gets especially monotonous.

There is that one relay which mutes bitcoin chatter.
