What prayers, psalms, bible passages and/or hymns have you memorised? I'm thinking I would like to do some memorising. #asknostr #christian
could be a good one, might try some shorter ones first :) https://hymnary.org/hymn/CP1998/384

(Sorry I always tag you two on things)
My go to psalms are these two! I dont always say the whole psalm sometimes I just say bits and pieces of them to myself https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2051&version=NKJV https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2027&version=NKJV Let me get back to you with another reply about other memorized prayers and passages because I have a lot that I like!!! So many!!! I am too sleepy right now to put what I want to say though 😴 don’t apologize for tagging!! I am honored!!
Curious to see what you come up with, if you have time:)
I will have time after I go to church today!!
I have all the prayers of the rosary https://www.vatican.va/special/rosary/documents/misteri_en.html#How_to_pray_the_Rosary and various other chaplets and similar prayer rules using beads/knotted rope as tools. I have a lot of prayers that were written by saints memorized. I am not very big on memorizing scripture to any sort of exactness but rather try to read it very frequently so that I’m more and more familiar with it overall I definitely have parts that I favor though haha I said this prayer multiple times a day everyday for awhile and it got me through some really hard times and it’s short so not too difficult to memorize: Grant mercy, O Lord, to them that hate me, or oppose me, or wrong me, or slander me, so that none of them may suffer any evil in any way - whether in this present age or in the age to come - on account me, an unclean sinner. Cleanse them instead by thy mercy and protect them, O Good One, by thy grace. Amen. I am working on memorizing this currently https://www.akathists.com/the-most-holy-theotokos/joy-of-all-who-sorrow/ And all the prayers of the Divine Liturgy!
I’ve been wanting to dive deeper into rosaries and saints… my Catholic mom taught me the Lord’s Prayer and that’s about it. I’ve learned a few things from my (adopted) aunt, who’s a devout Catholic. It’s the holiday season in most faiths rn so I’m (a Christian) in deep dive land…
Ohhh another Catholic/Orthodox prayer I like a lot but sometimes skip some parts of it is https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?recnum=139 You have deep dived into an endless ocean! Infinite amount of prayers to learn 😂 🙌🏻
I like endless rabbit holes… Bitcoin, yoga, spirituality…
This is great, thanks! Curious about the prayers written by saints now too lol 👀
Holy Spirit Prayer of Saint Augustine, Saint Augustine (354-430) created this poetic prayer to the Holy Spirit: Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, That my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, That my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, That I love but what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, To defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, That I always may be holy.
(finding lots online, think I need a notebook, or a new npub for collecting prayers could be a good storage system too) Let nothing disturb you, Let nothing frighten you, All things are passing away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices. -- St. Teresa of Avila
I have stacks of notebooks full of prayers I’ve written down! Maybe I will make a prayer npub too 🤔 I’ve been getting back into using are.na too idk if you’re on that platform (not part of nostr protocol but its great) https://www.are.na/theresa-maria maybe I will make a prayer channel
I have seen that site before. Never joined but looks very interesting. I would love to see a prayer npub. Please tag me if you make this.
You tag me in yours too if you do too!!!!!
You could make a channel/ album on wavlake of you reading your favourite prayers :) like your video. I don't have the voice for it. I sound like a dehydrated pickpocket.
Your arena page thing is great. I don't really understand it fully, afaik it's about making interconnections of ideas and scrapbooking. If only I could sign up with nostr lol.
It’s almost like a bulletin board where you can pin entire bulletin boards to your bulletin board?? And has a cyberscrapbooky feel too it yeah I could see that! I used it a lot for awhile and then stopped for awhile haha. I need to explore more of the nostr apps again
I think npubs are so quick to make and jump about between (on amethyst) that it's quite nice to have one-theme npubs, a scrapbook npub. It can also be semi private just cos the chances are no one will see it. (If you wanted to have one that is just sorta just for personal use, obviously not with private stuff on it).
Yeah!! I can’t jump between npubs on Damus really and I mostly use Damus!
But I didn't really get the system on arena, it's like you have to have some sort of credits to post or something? Doesn't matter, I really don't need to be joining more sites lol
The second link? That's quite a lot to memorise!
It is! There are also lots of parts that are repeated and it’s broken up into chunks so likely I will memorize lots of chunks but not exactly the whole thing haha. To be a bishop in some jurisdictions you have to have sooo much memorized like all the psalms and more. I will not be a bishop of course but I’m just saying haha
Only the serenity prayer. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference."
The Prayer of Saint Ignatius. Said it every day at school.
When you are thirsty you feel it with every fiber of your body, you don't need to say it out loud. So, memorise some verses, but make sure you live them, don't just parrot them mindlessly. “But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.” - Luke 6:27-28
I’ve always been terrible at memorizing scriptures and mantras…
