Altman stated that to achieve this massive number of words, OpenAI needs more graphics-processing units (GPUs). Altman is in talks with investors, including the UAE government, to raise funds for a tech initiative that would boost the world's chip-building capacity. The project could require raising as much as USD 5 trillion to USD 7 trillion. Altman has visited South Korea to discuss setting up a global network for AI chip manufacturing with key chipmakers.
