Some good conversations about “progressive” on here again recently.
My biggest hang up with any full libertarian or bitcoin only etc etc arguments are how the vulnerable in society will fair *today*. So folks with disabilities (millions in US), single moms raising kids, the homeless, elderly poor folks, etc.
Now, I’ve worked my whole career in nonprofits working with these types of populations. I’m less focused on where the money is coming from, and more on how we organize support. Most nonprofits in the U.S. are heavily funded via government grants and state/federal line items. Should we move away from this, I’d be 100% ok with this as long as there is still stable funding for folks to access resources they need! I’m a big fan of direct cash support.
P.S - my roles recently have been focused on development efforts for nonprofits. So fundraising and building healthy and sustainable nonprofit organizations.
Anyway, hopefully that clarifies for some folks as well that want to argue/discuss states role. For me that’s less important/interesting, but we still will need avenues for people to get help/have support when they need. What does that look like?
I must be sleeping under a rock because this is the first conversation I’ve heard with Dr Maté! What a great conversation.
My favorite kind of conversations are ones dripping with the authenticity. I believe it’s what we all crave. Anyway, highly recommend this episode. I’m looking forward to reading his book as well, particularly as someone who felt with childhood trauma from religion/parents and is looking to pour love and joy into my firstborn here soon in the coming month-ish!
It’s also an incredible reminder to me of how countercultural it is to live your authentic self. There are so many cultural norms, pointless jobs, rules, and bullshit we add on to live in the modern age. It gets in the way of love, joy, meaning, and beyond. The meaning of all of this for me is to find join, interconnectedness with each other and nature. That’s why for me traditional settings like school and work have always been challenging, because I’m a very honest person constantly seeking authenticity and I’m not willing to roll with norms or bullshit just because. Same for me with friendships and family relationships.

I as a kid of the 90s I grew up on Harry Potter and then around college hunger games wrapped up.
People doing what was right and saying fuck you to absolute power (even the “good guys”)
Yeah, we’ve been primed to challenge authority! Not sure about future generations…
Fine with it and a necessary evil.
For me I had to step back from a personal account there. But yes a lot of content and folks are still very much there and will remain
I want to thank @jyn_urso again for stepping up to host @TPBPod and inspiring me to see that we can reclaim the left, progressive, whatever and move forward with Bitcoin, social good, and fiery passion (like the old left) again.
She’s bringing the fire, the anti-establishment heat in a time where governments, politicians, and bitcoiners are courting and praising political leaders. With her background in journalism at occupy and beyond, a critical and activist lens, she is the exact host and leader for the movement we need at this time.
I absolutely needed to step back as host, and I’m so glad she stepped up! Exciting times ahead 🔥
This is how the democratic elite destroy open debate and other thought. Regardless of what you think of her, Tulsi’s “downfall” as future of the Democratic party and progressives began and ended quite swiftly in 2018.
Posting other ideas and opinions, fellow democrats will say “she’s not serving the interests of her constituents” as a way to execute their opponent and eliminate them from the party. And it worked, as now she’s joining the GOP. This article, from 2018, gets into it.
https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/aug/10/tulsi-gabbard-how-a-progressive-rising-star-is-a-paradox-for-the-left
Correct. And it’s been on repeat since 2016.
Post Obama they have no idea what to do until the party will be destroyed because all the intelligent rising stars are leaving or not partaking.
Dear Bitcoiners on #nostr,
For some, when you see or hear someone say they are a progressive/left bitcoiner, some of you lead to attacks, questioning and probing, assuming:
“pffft that’s not possible, how stupid can you be!”
I’ve been at this for over 3 years now. What you should do is take a step back, and realize how incredible it is that a progressive probably broke ranks heavily (think Liz Warren, greenpeace, woke police etc etc) to learn about and advocate for bitcoin. That’s really cool and a hard thing to do! Tribalism is deep and can produce awful things that get in the way of independent thought, truth, and progress.
Most progressives in bitcoin are not your caricature of the modern progressive that wants big government control, censorship, against free speech, MMT, etc etc. they’re bitcoiners that advocate for social change and progress, the true essence of the word, and believe there is a role Bitcoin can play in improving the lives of everyone, especially those downtrodden by society and the government. And those of us on the left in Bitcoin are socially liberal - we’re anti-war, pro lgbtqia+, pro women and freedom, and pro people gaining true financial freedom and prosperity.
Progressive bitcoiner does not equal democrat foot-soldier
Hell, most of us are politically homeless, as are you probably.
And at the end of the day these political labels can paint a bit of a picture but are inadequate at best, harmful at worst.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk
#progressive #left #bitcoin
I am probably still progressive(ish) because I’m concerned if we press a button like that it’ll be catastrophic for millions of Americans.
The pure libertarian argument for the vulnerable in society isn’t a good enough answer for me in 2024, without government supported intervention that is
Over a longer time frame, sure, but what does that look like? We’ll see, I’m open.
Separate money from the state and see humanity flourish. Same goals.
The state may or may not play a role. Personally IDGAF, but I care that humans have what they need to thrive and be free.
I align more with left libertarian/libertarian socialism in that regard.
The left went from criticizing the government and corporate powers
To looking to the government to fix their problems, in huge part caused or contributed by the government, and looking for the government to fight their enemies (which power’s will be used against them should their “leaders” not be in power)
That is the tale of the left the past 20 years.
For me the neocon nail in the coffin was the Harris campaign gloating over the fact that Dick Cheney endorsed Harris.
Utterly disgusting. I can’t forget it if I tried.
The anti-war, anti-oligarchy left of old is dead and gone in the Democratic Party. Gone, done, forever.
Off of vibe check, seems like Trump may win in November
Dems were over betting that Americans cared about their appeals to democracy and international affairs like Ukraine more than many do.
Harris/Walz ticket has been underwhelming.
BUT polls are in a dead heat. I just get some 2016 vibes. 🤷🏼♂️
I may have to check out @River 👀
They mean business. Proof of reserves, security, bitcoin only, now exploring other options with interest on cash paid in bitcoin.
Very cool. Competition is heating up!
I just caught a glimpse of the new @TPBPod with @jyn_urso as host. This trailer, and Margot, are bringing the fire.
Holy shit, y’all are in for a treat.
Stay tuned… 😈
I keep seeing “if Trump wins Bitcoin is going to blast through $100k”
You know when democrats win and people stock up on guns?
So you’re telling me if Kamala Harris wins people won’t stock up on Bitcoin?? Make it make sense!!
You’re taking the fun out of my metaphor! Like isn’t stacking sats “fuck you” money?
I know what WILL happen if the vote falls one way. But I’m saying what SHOULD 😂
Also we may get a final vote like January or February or not at all lol
I’m extremely worried not enough people are hearing the important message of
- Bitcoin
- self-custody
- fuck cbdc’s
- Bitcoin global use-cases (including mining)
If all they see are politicians, Saylor, BlackRock…we’re fucked.
The signal is loud here on #nostr, but people aren’t seeing it.
I learned about #Bitcoin in early 2021. I started stacking sats around 35k after the first big correction that year.
I thought I was too late, not early enough to really benefit. I was so very wrong.
It’s already benefited me tremendously, giving my family a path toward paying off debt, retirement, less stress with day-to-day life and expenses. And that is not to mention the more hopeful outlook and joy it brings me that people around the globe have an answer against predatory banks, inflation, and corrupt governments.
You are never too late to Bitcoin, and yes we are still very early. We still have over 100 more years of halving cycles. 😮💨
To be clear…he’s gonna lose 🫤
Warren is a household name here. To not vote for her, my friends immediately are like “what???”
She pretends, and does a good job of it, to be the needed savior of women and the working class in MA. Except she fails at every turn! It’s sad that more people won’t just look outside their tribalism to see that, in this case, Deaton is actually just fairly moderate on most things and not looking to go against your freedoms. And not enough people care about her anti-bitcoin stances.
But, I still need to vote my conscience https://image.nostr.build/7336905aef379228983b85b779eef489f3ed95ab6bad10ca1d615dd5855d65ea.jpg
Good little write-up from an interview last week with John Deaton.
After wrestling with this for a few months, for me the choice is clear. I’m voting for the pro-choice, moderate republican, pro-bitcoin, and anti-Warren candidate John Deaton for Senator of Massachusetts.
If you’re in Massachusetts, or have friends or family who are, give him a look.
Elizabeth Warren cannot be trusted or be given power in the United States of America ever again.
https://www.boston.com/news/politics/2024/10/15/gop-senate-john-deaton-pitches-moderate-alternative-elizabeth-warren/?amp=1
Elizabeth Warren said Bitcoin is for criminals and terrorists
Michael Saylor is strongly suggesting that if you want to self-custody your Bitcoin (kinda the whole point here) you’re a paranoid crypto-anarchist, planting further seeds for politicians to pursue banning self-custody
Is this man still good for Bitcoin, anon?
He better correct his statements (maybe for a part 2 with @ODELL) adding further context before he gets on another goddamn Bitcoin stage. Seriously. At present his statements are an enemy to cypherpunks and Bitcoin.
Are the Afghan workers Roya Mahboob employed and paid in #Bitcoin the “early adopters” the ECB criticize and say are stealing value and wealth from late-comers?
We knew once #Bitcoin started really taking off, those who didn’t stack (misled by central bankers and salty economists) would say
“Look at those evil, greedy people with their Bitcoin. THEY are the enemy!”
Show them stories of Bitcoin around the world, completely revolutionizing humanitarian aid, property rights for global citizens, and the countless human rights stories. Don’t let them spout off their bullshit.
We’re winning and they won’t go down without a fight, as all resistance movements have faced before.
I never say this, or use this word in this way.
But here it goes.
Gig food delivery (door dash, Uber eats, etc) is SO fiat. Shit sucks.
Give me a 16 year old or old retired Greek guy delivering my pizza in a 2005 Honda civic any day. Food will be at your door in 20 minutes tops.
The prison thing is fucked up.
But tbf many mental hospitals were shut down for grave mistreatment, so called “state homes” particularly for folks with severe disabilities
My first nonprofit gig was working with folks affected by these state homes. Horrific
OH MY FUCKING GOD THEN WHY DID YOU FUD BITCOIN FOR YEARS
JUST STACK SATS ITS EASY WHATEVER YOU GOT BUY IT MINE IT WORK FOR IT ETC
BITCOIN IS FOR EVERYONE, NO GATEKEEPERS, BANKERS AND ECONOMISTS CAN GO FUCK THEMSELVES nostr:note1w40v8x00k7apkmgfsjcg05xc6058yp854guy45z4h6jrxk93httqmqk5lr
Some people are really, really overestimating a Trump victory these days
Could happen!
But also these little cry-baby bitches will sell their bitcoin and stocks if Trump loses 😂
Bitcoin is going to the fucking moon regardless, may just be a little bumpy around election time.
