Measles, mumps, rubella making a comeback thanks to #AntiVax movement and #VaccineHesitancy: Cases of deadly disease double in England as parents avoid jabs https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/uk-news/cases-deadly-disease-double-england-27803614 https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/111/162/313/894/660/054/original/dd2ad32433369d20.jpg
@30ce86c6 Take it from me, a kid before there was a measles vaccine. I spent a miserable week in bed with the window shades down. Not fun and I was lucky not to get really sick--or die. I remember the relief when a vaccine against polio was finally developed. I remember the relief when we got rid of smallpox--what an achievement! Read some history, people, and protect your kids. And be glad you can.
@30ce86c6 Back in the day, drugs were real and life savings. Now, its all about the money so they don't make real drugs anymore. As long as they haven't corrupted the old drugs, I believe they are truly helpful.
@30ce86c6 Measles, mumps, chicken pox. I had them all — before any of the vaccines were developed. No movies or other public places because of polio. I watched my friend's sister grow up in an iron lung with only her head in the outside world. She never got to play. I remember how excited we were when the Salk polio vaccine came out. The entire town went to the college gym to get the vaccine. GET VACCINATED FOR ANYTHING YOU CAN!
@30ce86c6 I remember the darkened bedroom when I had measles as a child. I remember visiting my brother who had to go to hospital when he caught it as he complications & had problems for the rest of his life & was the first of my siblings to pass away. I remember walking past hospital polio wards, seeing the children in iron lungs. Very confronting. I’m thankful to my parents for getting us all vaccinated when they finally were available. I hate anti-vaxxers.
@30ce86c6 The ignorance of #AntiVax is an evil in my country as well. On Friday I was told that « mother now has Alzheimer’s because of the Covid-19 vax ». Little did this person know of the damage that Covid-19 can do and long it remains active. Clearly, this person did not understand how vaccines work. When I addressed what had been said, the person realised that they had picked the wrong person to deliver this story to.
@30ce86c6 So stupid. They're going to deliberately destroy the medical advances of 20th century. My antivax brother died of asthma for crissakes. He decided he could treat it with food but he got increasingly sick with cedar trees in TX and he kept avoiding medical treatment. Collapsed lung and sepsis. So sad.
