Saved the hardest piece of window trim for last and now all the windows are completed in the tiny house!

Working on finishing up the trim in the tiny house I've been working on since 2017 (low time preference...). Used some chisels to get this piece of trim to fit just right over the sink faucet. I've been dreading this but it wasn't so hard and turned out well. Sometimes the fear of failure keeps me procrastinating much longer than I should. I saved this piece for last. Now all the window trim is complete!

I'm really liking the vibe of all the contrasting wood tones in the tiny house.

Pine, cherry, oak, ash... A little bit of everything has made its way into this tiny house but the hodgepodge is adding up to something that feels good and unique. I can see the finish line in this project now and the excitement is brewing.

 Wow looks great 👏
What's that flooring on the ground floor?
It's osb sub floor. Haven't put the finished floor in yet.
Ah, going to finish with hardwood to match?
No, it's decent waterproof vinyl plank flooring. It's been so long but I think I was taking weight into consideration. The walls are 3/8 plywood and the counter tops are thin solid surface. So I think I was thinking I could save weight on the floor by using vinyl instead of wood.
That's interesting. I would not have thought it would make a big difference.
 It's a few hundred pounds.
More like only 100lbs doing the math again. It must have been the combination of lighter weight and thinner profile for more headroom in the kitchen. Plus it was cheaper too. I've had the floor in boxes for several years waiting to install. Hard to remember the reasons why I made the choices I did thinking back.
 Amazing work!
Modifying this solid wood stained glass to fit as the front door for the tiny house.

https://i.nostr.build/7R7B.jpg
The door opening in the tiny house is a unique size so the choices were build a custom door or find one that can be modified. My dad ended up finding this cool stained glass door at a garage sale. It's pretty beat up and a little thin for an exterior door but I figured I could make it work. I was able to cut it down to size and now I'm working on beefing it up with what I'm calling an oak exoskeleton. I'm basically going to bolt an oak frame into the existing door to make it thicker and more rigid as well as seal up the stained glass window better too. Got the skeleton cut and fitted. Next is adding the bolts, finishing work with the router, sand/stain, installing the handle/deadbolt.

 nice
 Awesome sauce.
I should try to learn how to make stain glass.
I have everything I need here except the kiln that’s at my aunts house.
(One of my other aunts was a hobby glass maker?)
I wouldn't know where to begin. I bet there's tons of cool stuff you could do. First thing that comes to mind is a custom stained glass case for a node or something.
I’ve been mulling over the idea of making stain glass inserts for my windows?
But a stain glass node with some leds would be cool.
Awesome work 👍🏻 love the misty background too 😀
Finish trim in this 20ft tiny house is done!

https://i.nostr.build/3V5x.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/RRkn.jpg
For the most part, all the trim in the tiny house is made from various kinds of wood, all reclaimed and custom made. It was a much bigger undertaking than I expected (of course) but what I learned from the experience was incredibly valuable. The more experience I built the faster I got when it came to the finish carpentry. At first, when I didn't know what I was doing, I felt the need to make everything perfect while giving myself no room for error even though I was learning. Ironically, as I learned more, I felt much more comfortable allowing more room for error. Similar to how everything is trade offs when it comes to Bitcoin, I've realized the tradeoffs on perfection with finish carpentry. The 80/20 rule rings true as ever in this instance, 80 percent of the result comes quickly but the real decision comes down to how much time is it worth spending achieving the final 20 percent. It's becoming clear that now that I've built up the skill to get the first 80 percent done quickly, that the diminishing returns on time spent on the final 20 percent just doesn't add up. I've learned to be comfortable with imperfection just so I can actually cross the finish line. A valuable lesson that took over 7 years to learn on this project. Yeehaw!

Very close to having a door on the 20ft tiny house!
https://i.nostr.build/63x2.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/B390.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/okwv.jpg
I was able to scrounge up just enough materials to build a frame for the door and get it hung as a test. Next I took everything back apart and started finishing it all. A good sanding and a couple coats of tung oil should do the trick. The strained glass is very fragile so I'm planning on sandwiching it between two sheets of polycarbonate to help protect it and make it easier to clean. One piece at a time this project is getting closer and closer to the finish line. My excitement continues to grow.

 Wow, this is cool!
Hi, I am among the unfortunate victims of the FTX scam, a situation that has resulted in the loss of my entire savings, totaling around $20,000.

The distressing aspect of this ordeal is not just the financial loss but the subsequent actions taken by SBF and Sullivan & Cromwell, the involved debtors. Following the success of their global heist, it appears that, rather than working towards justice for the affected customers, they are prioritizing their own interests, demonstrating a complete disregard for the well-being of those who have suffered.

To witness such blatant exploitation of innocent people for personal gain is not only disheartening but also raises concerns about the moral and ethical compass of those involved. Their actions can only be described as mentally and spiritually sick, going beyond mere financial misconduct.

The significance of this situation cannot be overstated for me, as the funds lost were an integral part of my financial stability. I am reaching out to you with the hope that you might consider extending a helping hand during this challenging time. Any assistance however small that you could provide to navigate through the complexities of this situation would be immensely appreciated.

I believe in the power of collective compassion and the willingness of individuals to make a difference in the lives of those facing adversity. I understand that you may have your own commitments and limitations, but even the smallest gesture can have a meaningful impact.

Thank you for taking the time to read my plea, and I sincerely hope that you may find it in your heart to offer assistance during this trying period. Your kindness will not be forgotten, and I am immensely grateful for any support you can provide.

Please save me.

Finally completed the door for the tiny house and got it hung. The last of the cedar shake is installed too. All that's left is the finish trim around the door frame and some paint on the window trim front of the tiny house is done. I'm looking forward to hosting all sorts students, instructors, and guests in it over the years.

It's so small one S9 would be more than enough. Even better would be a single board s19 Loki rig. Could even run it during the day with solar.
Who says free energy doesn't exist 😂😆

Pure dream at this stage but gotta start somewhere, I want to be off grid in 5ish years.
The tiny house I've been building for the last 7 years is moving into position this week!
https://i.nostr.build/jYB4l.jpg
With only a few finishing touches left on the interior of the tiny house it's time to move it into position. Then I'll give it a good cleaning, furnish it and start hosting guests.

Did a little family tree felling on mother's day to make room for the tiny house to fit into position. Both trees were already dead so the wood will be dry enough come winter to burn in the rocket mass heater to heat the house.

If you're planning on attending the Lake Satoshi Retreat this August, consider making a pitstop at the homestead on your way too or from. There are dates available at both the yurt and the tiny house. DM for more details.

Had the move scheduled with a friend who had a big enough truck for later in the week but their schedule suddenly freed up and we were able to move the tiny house into position sooner than expected. The sheep are working their way towards the tiny house in this pasture so I'm going to let them graze around it first before I start doing any landscaping. Not celebrating the completion of this long term project just yet but definitely accomplished a big milestone by getting it planted.

The tiny house custom RV is complete and earning revenue for the homestead!
https://i.nostr.build/eE9XKZkIe7Gm7yJE.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/PnFuJnEl7ISuutbR.jpg
After seven and a half years, I've finally completed and put the tiny house RV I've been building into operation at the homestead.
https://i.nostr.build/70KtdAGxQiIndLQ4.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/8Ww4T89YeHaY7i4M.jpg
I started building it in November 2016 thinking I could complete the project in a year but I fell victim to the common homesteading practice of building many systems at once. Since my time and energy was split between so many projects at once, the time I had for working on the tiny house was quickly narrowed down to a few months in the winter.
nostr:nevent1qqsyggx69p48va855yz8t9qvuj0f8nxas79qd4cwtk764ml6dv8f37qh44kgc
The days were short and the weather was challenging, plus I was learning many of the techniques from scratch, teaching myself as I went. This made for very slow progress.
https://i.nostr.build/qWuWT8Qfzgw434cV.jpg
However, there were some benefits of moving small and slow on the project. I was able to avoid making any critical/costly mistakes. I also had lots of time to souce cheap and unique reclaimed/recycled materials. Plus, I was able to totally customize and build each component to be unique, leading to it feeling like a work of art rather than a construction project.
https://i.nostr.build/Woqo2EzbGal2g4XH.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/cJ5oUlKgFH606i7o.jpg
For now, I don't think I'll be taking on another project of this scale again anytime soon. But in the end, I taught myself all the skills to build a house from framing and roofing to plumbing and electrical, on down to the finishing techniques for trim.
https://i.nostr.build/SRxY1eOrdNKksWRb.jpg
The intellectual and experiencial capital was definitely worth having so much financial capital tied up in the project for so long. Before I know it, I will have earned it all back anyway leaving me with much more capital than I started with. Low time preference paying off.

 So nice! Congrats!
 It looks great!
 Looks amazing!
7 years of work, must feel amazing getting it done after such a long perid. Looks great!
Interesting! You had to follow local zoning laws or you just..built it? (I know depends a lot on jurisdiction)
It's an RV and I'm zone agricultural so it's very lax.
Interesting! Where I am from, even mobile homes permits in agricultural land is very strict, like max 6 months and it MUST have functional wheels to demonstrate is not permanent establishment.

I always been envious of boomers, they basically bought cheap land, built villas and then paid a simple fine: boom premium real estate!
Local zoning is incredibly important to understand, it's wildly different everywhere.
This is so cool. Would love to try building something like this myself eventually.
 Very cool
 What a pimp
Its great, loving that little dormer. Bet the sun shining through the window glass gives a great vibe too
Love it! Thanks for sharing 🧡
revhodl nice work mate. glad you're enjoying the satisfaction of building something with your own hands
It's been an adventure learning how to do it all, at this point I'm ready to finish the project up and move on to other things. Been at it for around 7 years...
 Nice 👍🏻
 Looks amazing. Thanks for sharing
