Where were you on 9/11? I don't remember a lot from when I was a kid, but one day still stays in my mind pretty vividly, and that's September 11, 2001. It started as a typical day at elementary school, but things started to get weird when some of my friends were getting called into the principal's office one by one and leaving school. At the time, I did not know, but these were the people who had family members that worked at the Twin Towers or nearby. Luckily, no one passed away, and a couple of my friends' parents were lucky that day to be away from their office at the time of the strike. You could see teachers talking, and something was completely off about the vibe. This was a time without smartphones; I can imagine knowing what was going on pretty instantly today. The school day went on normally besides that. I acted like a normal kid, just waiting for recess and then missing my friends at recess to dominate the recess kickball game like we usually do. I did not know what happened until I got home, and my dad was home, which was rare. He was in front of the TV, and I saw the planes hitting the building. I was too young and didn't understand why this was happening. The worst video was the people jumping off the building, something I never forgot. Little did I know at that time that it would change the world for the worse, and people would willingly give away so many freedoms for a sense of security. It seemed to bring a nation together powerfully. I also did not know how dangerous that could be if directed by the powers that be in the wrong direction, like starting a war in Iraq. Never forget those that lost their lives from this event, during and after. Also, never forget how they used the event to justify horrible things later, such as the Iraq War, the War on Terror, the Patriot Act, and the TSA; the list goes on.

Rather far away China spy on me then my actual government who can do me immediate harm. Actually I rather neither spied on me. Apple just has better marketing about privacy there is no actual privacy though. The phone was built to be a surveillance device.

I got the 13 mini. I like the small form factor. Too bad it didn't sell well enough for them to continue the model. Honestly the improvements are so small now its hard to justify getting the latest and greatest for $1,000. Your doing it right. I know most people get their phones subsidized by the carriers so a lot of people are generations behind so the latest is a decent jump for them. I miss the days when there was exciting advancements though. All the top stuff are so similar now. Pixel 9 pro looking more like an iPhone every generation same with Samsung.
I use to do the same with newer devices. Lately everything so underwelming. Apple intelligence won't be on iPhone 16 either at launch from what I am reading. Coming later with an OS update. Weird.
Nothing annoys me more than the obsession with making phones thinner and bezels .0000001 inch smaller. Give me something more functional. Let me take out the battery, give me a way to add more storage. No, never, because business depends on you spending on cloud storage and getting a new phone when the battery dies.

I completely agree that it's astonishing how much people share about their personal lives online. I've noticed that whenever I take a break from social media, it's as if I've fallen off the face of the earth, friends seem to forget about me altogether. I also feel the same way when I don't participate, it's like I'm being left out. It's like you can only be friends now if you're actual friends online. Digital friendship has almost overtaken personal, real friendship, and now I can understand why everyone feels so lonely. Before, if you wanted to see how a friend was doing, you would have to go see them or call them. Now people can feel like they know what's going on with you with zero interaction because they can see your posts. I post less now, but there was a time when I posted a lot. I've deleted everything basically now, besides X and Nostr. It was eye-opening when I would talk to someone who I hadn't talked to in a long time and they could bring up so much stuff about me that we never personally spoke about to them.
Also, it's becoming increasingly dangerous to post too much identifiable information. A lot of attacks and robberies are being planned based on information someone posts on their social media.
It's crazy how people tie their self-worth to online validation, likes, comments, and followers have become the ultimate measure of popularity. This creates a lot of anxiety and stress associated to social media use. Even on Instagram, people are ditching traditional posts for stories, likely because there is less pressure to get likes and comments.
Social media has changed a lot. It's definitely ingrained into society now. One of the biggest dangers is that the algorithm has the ability to shape minds all over the world. They can make you perceive whatever they want. Social media I think, can be a good or bad thing based on how you use it. You can scroll your feed chronologically on X, think for yourself, or fall into the "For You" page and be told how to think. The danger is that they are all run by big corporations that have done everything they can to make it as addictive as possible, so it's actually become a net negative for most people. They are also not in the business of making you happier or smarter, so they will push whatever governments or corporations tell them to. Maybe Nostr fixes this.
