Hmm. Western Peak have expanded their "broadband" coverage so I should be able to get from my house. I'm tempted to get it as a backup option.
Not sure if I need to though, the fibre I have via Openreach and @a79223b6 has been rock solid since I've had it. The only downtime has been from me fiddling with things.
But having RF internet interests me...
@67db1784 I never bother with the kapton tape but I'm quick and I've had a lot of practice - in general it's a good idea.
Drag soldering is the easiest way of doing it if you don't have a fine tip, an excellent soldering iron, steady hands and a good microscope.
Today is my annual day of fucking off to a pub where no-one knows me and drinking myself into a state where I don't care any more.
Problem is that I can't decide where to go this year.
I decided that the best place to go was actually my local. Unlike my previous locals I've deliberately not got involved with anything or anyone. People know me but they don't know anything about me. I'm just the fucking nice weirdo that sits by himself in misery guts corner (aka the table away from everything by the kitchen door with a good wifi signal, power sockets and the only place in the pub not covered by CCTV).
@ec36a502 Long story short, pub landlady is on holiday and the staff had to break a window to get in today to open up as the main door lock malfunctioned. They don't know that I can find easier ways to get in and I don't want them to know that I do. The main doors have eurolocks and deadbolts. There's a back door, behind a locked and easily climbed gate that only has a eurolock. Could have popped that fucker in minutes.
@ec36a502 In this case it isn't as this is specifically the entrance to the owner's quarters but "we have a beam system". Not for fucking long once I get inside you don't.
Someone's just shown me their new "high security" lock on their door. Lol.
Is that a single paned window next to it? If I wanted to get in without being detected I'd cover that pane with sticky backed plastic, then use something to quietly smash that pane and lift the entire thing out with barely a sound.
But we have an alarm?
So I can see. Your code is 1563.
How do you know that?
The greasier and more worn the buttons are mean I can tell which order you put your code in.
That's actually something I wonder if I could make a detection kit for. Reflection of finger grease on buttons. Makes sense that the first button you press will consistently have more grease on it than subsequent buttons. Would it be linear? Logarithmic?
If I still had any get up and go left at the moment I'd give it a go but now is not the right time. Let me know how you get on if you try. I'd go for light refraction if I was going to try.
You're welcome.
Oooh. Someone's hacked me and recorded me through my webcam pleasuring myself.
Can I have a copy? I bet it's hot. If I get a copy I could probably sell copies to people who like that sort of thing.
Ah. A lovely end to the week (I'm on my usual annual leave day tomorrow) to get the power of attorney documents through. Fucking A.
And I'll be in the 'nam over the weekend.
Had a weird one today. Two identical STM32s outputting the same data from the USART. With one the bit timing was consistently 320ns faster than the other and it stretched out the last bit but the byte timing was identical. It was a faulty IC but we'd never seen that problem before. Stuck bit in some internal counter or shift register perhaps? Changed the chip and all was fine but very odd. Problem was present on both USARTs we were using on the chip.
@9e601414 In theory, and I haven't tried this, you can unlock the part, select all the pads and change the solder mask with PCB Filter/PCB Inspector. I'll have a go later when I'm back in front of a computer.
@ec36a502 And oddly the friend I'm thinking about doesn't mind coming round our house and has never asked what all the antennas I have up are for.
Maybe I'm just not "the man". Or she's never heard about me in whatever fucking stupid conspiracy theories she's read about on the internet this week.
@ec36a502 Although if I said "It's for trying to decoding all the weird EMF signals that people use to control and manipulate us" then I wouldn't actually be far off the truth 😂
@ec36a502 Aye.
That said, it wouldn't actually surprise me if there were a *very* *very* tiny amount of people with some odd unknown genetic thing that may be sensitive to it. We're probably talking about less than one in ten million here.
But that lass that wears tie-die clothing and is proudly anti-chemical probably isn't one of them.
(Disclaimer: my missus wears tie dye clothing)

@ec36a502 I'd catch it, say thanks, and use it as a paperweight. Or throw it at some of my associates that think it means immediate death unless they quickly cleanse themselves with rose quartz and a sage stick.
@ec36a502 I'm lying actually. I can barely catch a cold let alone anything thrown at me.
I'd pick it up off the floor after it flew past me and keep it.

@5c93248a@29d67b21 When I had to reset my password on one earlier this year it sent me my new password in plain text. They expected me to send personal financial information and forms of ID through this monstrosity.
I haven't used IRC in a long time, what client do people use these days? I will consider desktop Windows, command line *nix or some web thing.
I'm aware there's an inbuilt client in Thunderbird.
@c4ee1c95 But to give him his due, I was going to the NEC before I even knew what a Birmingham was. I haven't been for many years but I knew what the NEC was before I even knew where it was.
