Not just believe, I have been living it for several years. Streaming sats. But as far as I can see, I am the only one.
Tipping is great use case, but not enough of a use case to create a meaningful economy. And people get the sizes wrong compared to fiat tipping.
The intersection of nostr and taproot can be explored much more. But it wont happen organically, nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7erfw36x7tnsw43z7un9d3shjqpq0pensatlcfwktnvjjw2dtem38n6rvw8g6fv73h84cuacxn4c28eqsewwmj needs to realize this and fund it.

Growth strategies work. Infrastructure investments pay off big. Without capacity you cant grow. Good devX is important to retain devs. Good governance helps. Good UX is important to retain users. Communities are important.
Nostr is not decentralized. It is heavily reliant on Damus. And Damus is heavily reliant on Jack. I think it is still better than the status quo because if one relay goes down, you might not lose everything. There is still room to innovate, and I think nostr should do a git integration. Adding #pubky to profile or NIP-07 could help!
Bitcoin has a conservative approach to change, as there is a social-contract with a userbase who value stability. Not really stated in that post, is that bitcoin's developement strategy, while not perfect, has been one of the most successful in the history of open source. And that's a reason why people put their trust in it.
I totally get it. We actually helped set up all the structures you see today, including the BIPs, specifically to prevent Gavin from swaying consensus in favor of the foundation and adjacent VCs. Plenty of developers want change—the first one I remember was Mike Hearn. Mike quit Bitcoin because things weren't moving fast enough for him, and I wish he hadn't. Bitcoin isn't perfect, but it's hard to argue that it's not a successful project. Honestly, we've yet to scratch the surface of what Bitcoin can do, and there's always going to be a vocal group pushing for change.
On that note, Nostr is a project that's really well-suited for change and innovation. That's one of the reasons we created it—as an outlet for people who want to use Taproot in a more developer-friendly environment. While innovation on Nostr has slowed down a lot, it's still a better place to push for new ideas.
A bit. But they invested in infrastructure and it paid off big. In truth, nostr would not be able to handle a faction of bluesky even with a perfect UX.
Visualizing 13 million BlueSky users:
"We can just open a WebSocket at wss://bsky.network/xrpc/com.atproto.sync.subscribeRepos and see every type of event streaming in from the entire network in real time, currently around 500 events per second"

"Perfectly" scarce is a bit of a stretch. It is scarce by consensus, and yes that is a pretty strong convention. Perfect, maybe not. It's OK for people to have doubts. Consensus can be gamed. Especially if we are not careful. Indeed the chain could split due to conensus gaming. I am quite sure there are those that would like to see that happen. And it has happened before, almost fatally. We need to stay humble and avoid being complacent on these issues.
So, as nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7erfw36x7tnsw43z7un9d3shjqpq3ndpm2hm9hud4azsq5euhf5mv3d05r90wymwxsd7rdn29609hhvq42j0zv said: 'In Bitcoin, consensus is not built, it is enforced.'
I think we’re on the same page here, though not everyone might see it this way. If some believe consensus can be built, then it's up to the community to actively enforce it. But that only works if enough people are willing to stand firm.
The 21 million limit would be incredibly difficult to break; it's likely an extreme example. People could try, but they'd probably fail. However, if someone controls the longest chain, they do hold significant power.
Now, consider another scenario: What if there’s a divisive issue that splits the community? For example, say there's a proposal to activate an OP_CON opcode. The specifics aren’t the point; it’s that the community is divided. You could potentially engineer this or introduce enough ideas to create a split.
At that point, there’s a real risk of a chain split. You’d end up with 21 million on one chain and 21 million on another, and there’d be confusion, at least temporarily, about which is the 'real' Bitcoin.
We need to be vigilant about this because it’s a legitimate possibility, as history has shown. So, to say that Bitcoin’s scarcity is 'perfect' might be a bit too strong. It’s something we have to continuously protect. Hope that makes sense!
I've not fully researched this, but glad to learn from 2 people I respect, discussing it. I think i learnt that I dont trust Tor. Drug related sentences tend to be unfair, from what I have read. He did seem to put a target on his back. If he ordered hit men, that is next level, tho. They did have his laptop, I think.
We should make a board game called Nostr GO, where you get a bird like an ostrich that goes round a board of collecting stuff. Would be fun if open source.

Interesting to see the rise of python. Probably AI related. We have also lost a whole generation of coders to Microsoft TypeScript, and Facebook React. The original non-corporate web is much under rated. Nostr is a web sub-protocol, and shows what can be done with the web, if you want it enough.

#prompt Tracking shot: A sleek sports car speeds down a winding mountain road, the ocean waves crashing against the cliffs below. The camera follows the car closely as it swerves through hairpin turns, the roar of the engine silent in the visuals but palpable in the intensity of the scene. The driver’s focused expression and the blurred scenery emphasize the high-stakes nature of the chase, with the camera occasionally pulling back to reveal the steep drop just beyond the guardrail.

Amen! Only by defending bitcoin has it succeeded, and can it succeed. Many are doing so. Keep going!

I log into solid either with nostr NIP-98 or username/password or OIDC. You can do the same with SSH. Some VPS make you log in with password first time. There's no real "defeats the purpose" of SSH. Same with nostr, just use the right tool for the right job. It's going to take years to transitions users from what they are used to, in any case.

Delegation? Subkeys? Oauth does delegated auth. GPG has subkeys. Subkeys seem like the most logical future-proofed solution. And it has the advantage that it can be built piece by piece, rather than, being locked in to a hack with high technical debt.
Simplest implementation:
- Put subkeys in an array in your profile, key = "subkey"
- If it is a single string, it is treated as array of length 1
- It is already signed by the user and pulled in by all clients
- Clients can optionally respect it
- Visual indicator on the UI, to show it's a subkey of parent
- [Optionally?] parent can go in the subkey profile
- Other things can be layered on in time, such as revocation, rotation, time stamping, and so on
Good clients change, bad clients get left behind. There might be a graceful way to do it that doesnt require everyone to upgrade.
For profile you can keep the same profile pic, maybe have a little dot on there to indicate subkey. It can be verified. Perhaps also something can go in NIP-05.
Tricky thing is pulling in all the replies etc. Worst case is that someone follows your subkey too. Then the WoT stuff gets more complex. Also NIP-98 gets more complext. It could be done in stages.
I do admit I'm probably over-simplifying things!
It's amazing how many trolls are against innovation. I realized that an important event was when we stopped having downvotes accross the internet. That means that there's no real way to discourage bad behaviour which is at the heart of all good reputation systems. Also it is asymmetric. The elites have means to discourage bad behaviour in the population. But the population has little means to discourage bad behaviour in the elites. A good reputation system would help fix this. Of course that, too, has to get over the innovation barrier.
