If ordinals just ignore what Bitcoin is then caring is useless. But if they are truly Bitcoin adoption or an attack on Bitcoin, I should probably care.

Yes, it comes down to authenticity. Some people are and some people play a role. People can sense this and the respect is adjusted accordingly. Try hard is an insult for a reason.
Some people love to be seen for who they truly are. When you “see them” their face light up.
Some people hate to be see for who they truly are. When you “see them” they go to war. If only they could see that it is a war vs themselves.
If you are disagreeing with someone, and I disagree with you, it does not mean I agree with that someone. I just disagree with both.
